Happy New Year’s Eve Everyone!
Just a quick post today because I need to finish packing. My boyfriend and I are going to Chicago to celebrate the new year with a few of our friends. This look was inspired by the awesome stamped holiday mani with the Red Angel plate RA-107 done by Enamel Girl. Hers looks WAY better (you can see it [HERE]) but I just needed this look to be my holiday manicure. I just wish I had all the colors she used. Looks like I need the Color Club Foiled Collection, oh darn.
NYE Holiday Mani
Base Color: A England Camelot
RA-107 Colors: A England Excalibur, Pure Ice New Lilac, Pure Ice Calypso, LA Girl Antiqued Gold
I used A England The Knight & The Shield basecoat and topcoat. ^_^
I truly appreciate all the people that have followed my blog since I started it back in May, you guys encourage me to continue and are really the greatest! I wish you all the best and I’ll see you all in 2012!

What’s this you say? A post about noms on Nails and Noms? I know, it’s a pretty rare occurrence but one of my goals for 2012 is to post delicious noms on the blog at LEAST once or twice a month from now on. Let’s hope I can stick with it! If you missed my previous noms posts (not hard, there’s only two other posts from way back… :?) you can find them by clicking the “Noms” tab above.
Today I’ve got one of my favorite appetizers to share with you, meaty layered taco dip! This is seriously way too easy to throw together and there’s not really a way to mess it up. My boyfriend and I especially love the eat this when we’re in the midst of one of our epic tv series marathons made possible by instant netflix. You can serve it with your favorite ‘edible dipping apparatus’, mine being roasted black bean & garlic tortilla chips ♥ (my boyfriend likes the lime flavored ones).
I am oh-so-very excited to be showing you all Revlon Whimsical today! As soon as I heard about this polish I knew it had to be mine ASAP. The lacquerhead buzz is strong for this one. It’s a near [or 100%] dead on dupe for Deborah Lippmann’s Glitter In The Air (aka GITA), which I’ve always wanted but couldn’t bring myself to drop the $18 for a bottle of it. I can’t directly compare the two because I don’t own the Deborah Lippmann polish, but Solveig from Nailin’ It! has a great swatch of GITA on her blog [HERE].
I have to thank my girl Jacqui for getting her hands on this one for me. I owe her a hug, a squeal, and cookies for tracking this down for me. This polish has my heart! Right now I think people are having the best luck locating this polish at K-Mart and Bed, Bath & Beyond stores. But I believe Revlon may be adding Whimsical to their permanent collection! *fingers crossed, mama needs a backup!*
Enough of my rambling, let’s get to the good stuff! I changed it up a bit today and used Cult Nails Get It On Perfecting Base Coat and Wicked Fast Speed Dry Top Coat for my swatches, both of which I’m looooooving so far! Clicking each image will bring you to the originally sized photo on my Flickr page.
So really, how could you look at this polish and NOT be in love instantly?! You remember the intense lemming that I had for DL Glitter In The Air? Well say good-bye because Revlon KILLLLLLED IT when they made Whimsical!
Whimsical is extremely sheer and definitely more suited for layering. It has a translucent blue base that’s filled with sparse baby blue and pink hex glitter. There’s also smaller pink hex glitter pieces and even tinier iridescent blue glitter spread throughout. For this look I layered 2 coats of Whimsical over 2 coats of Zoya’s Kristen (the blue/grey creme from their Feel Collection, review/swatches soon!). You’ll definitely have to let Whimsical dry for a minute or two between layers though, the glitter has a tendency to drag.
Here’s a macro shot of Whimsical on my current nubbins. I love the iridescent glitter that’s peeking through. I can’t wait to layer this over… EVERYTHING. ಠ_ಠ
Winter has not been kind and my nails have been peeling like crazy. I went file/clipper happy and took ‘em down to the meat to try to grow them out healthy again. I blame Loodie for my excessive use of the term “meat” lately.
So far I’ve been wearing Whimsical for 3 days and it’s wearing like iron! I’m not sure if it’s the polish or the base coat/top coat combo I’m using but either way I’m impressed! I even took an hour long LUSH bubble bath yesterday and I have no chips or tip wear whatsoever!
Has anyone else been able to find Whimsical yet? What are you layering it with? ♥
Happy Holidays Everyone!
Sorry this post is a day late, but it’s still Christmahanakwanzika season so it still counts… Right? I hope you all had a great Christmas if you celebrate. I’ve just got a quick post for you today of a holiday skittle mani that I did on Christmas Eve. I used Color Club’s New Bohemian and several of the polishes that Dana (Merry Christmas girl!) sent me last month. I ended up hating it and re-painted my nails afterward because I was being a grinch, but now that I’m looking at the pictures a few days later I think it turned out pretty cute!
I used one of the three stamping plates sent to me by KKCenterHK, the one that has the snowflake on it (B61). The plates they offer are inexpensive, but they do not have the cardboard backing like BM or Konad plates. The plastic film on the plates that you have remove before using them is also ridiculously hard to peel off. It’s super thin, like fine saran wrap, and it kept tearing off in pieces. Even after I managed to remove most of it there’s still a few shreds clinging to the sides of the stamping plate. Beside that, the pattern transferred nicely onto my nails. I’ll show you more stamping designs with the other two plates when I have time to try them out.
Holiday Skittle Mani
Let me first mention that New Bohemian is a pain in my ass to work with. I don’t know if I got a bad batch or what, but it was a streaky/gloopy mess. It took me three coats to get it opaque and mostly streak free. Annoying for such a pretty color!
I can’t remember the names of the polishes Dana sent me off the top of my head. I used a holo bar glitter on my ring finger (love it!) from what looks like a foreign brand. I’m holding the bottle for it in my pics. On my thumb I used a vintage gold glitter by Wet n Wild. And I stamped with the B61 KKCenterHK plate on my pointer, middle, and pinky fingers. I used China Glaze Millennium and Sally Hansen White On for the stamped snowflakes. I then layered Confetti’s Ice Ice Baby over it.
Here’s some quick shots of the nail plates that were sent to me. I think only two of them would make good full nail designs, the rest are way too small unless you’re painting the nails of a 3 year old.
KKCenterHK was nice enough to provide me with a coupon code for you all to use, it’ll give you 10% off any purchase made on their site! The coupon is good until the end of February (2/28).

I’m finally getting around to showing you all one of the most anticipated collections that came out in 2011, the Models Own Beetlejuice Collection! I certainly know that I went on their website the very day it was released and bought the collection set as soon as I got home from work that morning! The set I ordered came with all 5 polishes and the 3 in 1 Base Coat/Top Coat/Gloss by Models Own. I used their base coat/top coat combo for all swatches that I’m showing you today.
Unfortunately I did have some major issues with the Models Own website/customer service, but I’ll address that after I show you all the polishes.
Clicking on each picture will enlarge it to the original size (Hint: Pretty Macros!), and this is a VERY picture heavy post.
Golden Green is a beautiful green polish that flashes yellow-gold. This one also has a fine green shimmer. I used 3 coats here, it can be a little brush stroke happy so you have to be a little careful during application. I did my first two strokes on the outer left and right portion of my nail, then the 3rd stroke straight up the middle. I LOVE duo-chromes with this color combination, it’s in the same family as Ozotic 507 and Peridot.
Le macro shot. ♥
Pinky Brown is an orange/dark pink/brown multi-chrome with a glass fleck finish, similar to MAC’s Bad Fairy but it is NOT a dupe for that polish. Jen from The PolishAholic did some amazing comparison swatches for the Beetlejuice Collection that I’ll link you to a bit later. Shown here is 2 coats. I love the glass fleck finish so you know I’m all about this one.
Macro shot of Pinky Brown, sorry about the blurry-ness on this one. I didn’t notice until I was editing my photos.
Emerald Black. Oh man, this one right here… This is LOVE. I know I say that a lot but I’m for real this time! I did not expect to enjoy this one as much as I do, it took me totally by surprise. It’s also damn near impossible to capture the multi-chromatic flash, but it’s there. Being all subtle and sexy. She is an inky blackened blue with green and blue shimmer that sparkles like the night sky in certain angles. I can’t get over how much I love this one! I used 2 coats for full coverage.
Just look at this macro and tell me you’re not head over heals for Emerald Black! If you’re still on the fence, enlarge this photo first then make your decision. She’s a vampy polish lovers dream come true. ♥
Purple Blue is a purple/blue/fuchsia multi-chrome and the other glass fleck finish in the collection. I used 3 coats for full coverage. The formula for this one was similar to Pinky Brown (the other glass fleck), sheer yet buildable.
Here’s a macro shot of Purple Blue, it looks like crushed candy to me.
Aqua Violet was another surprise favorite for me, just look at that color shift! It’s a beautiful lagoon blue/violet duo-chrome with a subtle blue shimmer. The third picture above is in shaded lighting, you can really see the violet come out to play. I couldn’t stop staring at my nails when I had this one on. My boyfriend said it looked like an oil slick, I’m going to take that as a good thing. Aqua Violet goes on sheer but built up nicely after 3 coats (make sure to wrap those tips!).
Here’s TWO macro shots of Aqua Violet for you, I just couldn’t narrow it down from these because they’re both so dang beautiful! Enlarge this last one, trust me.
Wow. I love this collection, it’s basically a multi-chrome polish lover’s dream! My favorite out of the bunch are Aqua Violet and Emerald Black, but really all 5 of them are stunners. The formula on each was good. A bit sheer for some but they all built up nicely after 2-3 coats. I’m happy that I didn’t have to layer them over black polish for the color shifts to be noticeable. If you have the means and cash to do so, I would definitely splurge and buy the entire collection. Check out Jen’s Models Own Beetlejuice Collection Comparison Swatches to see other polishes that are similar to the ones in this collection.
The 3 In 1 Base/Top coat that came with my order was also quite nice. The polish adhered well to the base and adding another coat of the 3 in 1 on top did leave me with a nice glossy finish. It takes a little longer than my SV to dry, but the wait time isn’t terrible.

Now onto the ranty part of my review. While I’m happy with my polishes, the process of ordering them from the Models Own website and subsequently dealing with their customer service department was a nightmare. For one thing, the Models Own website was extremely buggy when I placed my order. I don’t know if it’s always like that or if they were just bogged down with orders since it was release day for that collection. Either way, the profile I created when I placed my order failed to register for one reason or another. I paid via paypal but it took 5 days for the money to be transferred from my account. And in that time I NEVER received an order conformation/receipt from Models Own, so I wasn’t even sure if my order had actually gone through successfully. Which worried me because the full set was already sold out on their site at the time.
I emailed their customer service department to let them know of my issue (thankfully I had made a print-screen of my transaction so I had the order/confirmation number on-hand) and to see if they could confirm my order and also send me a shipping tracking number. I got an email back saying “yes your order went through”. Okay, but I’d also asked for a shipping tracking number. I emailed them again then I waited.. And waited… And waited… And then I sent a reminder email about my tracking number. And 4 days later I STILL had no response to my 3rd email. I reached out on Twitter to see if I could get a response that way, explaining that for some reason my profile I created hadn’t saved. I gave them my order number again and asked for a tracking number for shipping. Their response: oh, you have to make a profile in order for your orders to be saved in our system. It was as if every time I asked about a tracking number for my order that question was being ignored on purpose, I felt like I was getting nowhere.
By this point I was ready to pull out my hair. It’d been 10+ days now with no way to track my package and no real answers from anyone. I sent out a 4th email and another message on twitter, this time a bit more forceful laying out my frustration with the lack of help I’d received so far. And after 14 days I FINALLY received an email with a tracking number, but their rep made sure to chastise me by saying that I needed to be patient since overseas packages can take up to four weeks to arrive. Right. Does is also take 4 weeks to receive a tracking number? Or at least a notification letting me know my package had been shipped?! My package finally arrived 17 days after I’d placed my original order. The whole ordeal left me with a sour taste in my mouth and I almost didn’t even want to bother reviewing the polishes.
I know I wasn’t the only one having issues with their site on the day the Beetlejuice Collection launched. I feel like they should have had better representation for such a huge release, both for technical support and for customer service. I’m not telling you to never buy products from them, I just want you all to be aware of the issue I had. Hopefully you won’t have to experience the same thing I went through.
The Models Own Beetlejuice Collection can be purchased straight from the Models Own website. I know, I know… But even after everything I just said I still want to give you all options. They retail at £5 per .5 fl oz bottle of polish [HERE], or you can buy the entire boxed set for £20, this price also includes the 3 in 1 Base Coat/Top Coat/Gloss. They’re currently running a Buy 3 Save £3/Buy 5 Save £7 deal.
Thankfully (in my case especially) there is another way to get your hands on these polishes. Katie of Harlow & Co. stocks Models Own polishes and she just recently started carrying the Beetlejuice Collection! You can find them [HERE] under the Models Own tab, they retail at $8.00 per .5 fl oz bottle of polish.
I’m finally back with some nail polish swatches to share with you today, it’s been a while! Honestly I feel a little bit rusty as I haven’t done any polish swatching before this in weeks. But I’m getting back into the swing of things and I’m really excited to share these new polishes with you today!
I was actually at Target trying to see if they had a new Revlon polish I’d been hunting for when I came across a green and a blue polish by Essie that I’d never seen before! They were on the same display with the Luxeffects and a few other older polishes that were re-released to the public (non-salon line) as part of Essie’s 30th anniversary. I snatched them up immediately and later found out that they are part of the Essie Spring 2012 Go Overboard Collection trio… SCORE!! The only one I didn’t grab was Play Date (a dusty lavender creme) because honestly I have quite a few of those in my collection already.
Onto the swatches! All of my swatches today are shown with Seche Vite Top Coat and Sally Hansen Nail Quencher Base Coat. Clicking each picture will enlarge the photo to its original size.
Armed And Ready
Armed And Ready is an olive green creme filled with very fine gold and pink shimmer. So basically we’re in love. This polish is super pigmented and I almost got away with 1 coat! Shown here is 2 coats.
The subtle shimmer really comes alive in direct sunlight or under camera flash.
And your favorite macro shots are back with a vengeance! You know you want to enlarge this picture to see Armed And Ready in all its glory. I really love the little hint of pink mixed in with the golden micro shimmer. It took me by surprise because I didn’t even see it until I had the polish on my nails!
Go Overboard is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL dark teal creme. This baby is smooooooth and such a breeze to apply. Again this polish could easily be a “1 Coat Wonder” if you’re careful with application. Shown here is 2 coats because I wasn’t.
I am so happy that I came across these two polishes! My local Target store is really stepping up their game with getting the newest Essie collections out in record time. Heck, I grabbed these before I even knew about the collection they belonged to! Though it would have been nice if the Target display had listed the name of the collection with these polishes.
If you’re a fan of blues and greens then you definitely need Armed And Ready and Go Overboard in your stash! Both have dream creme formulas and the pigmentation is flawless. I think I’ll have fun stamping with these two polishes. I really hope Essie continues to produce these killer greens and blues that they’ve been cranking out lately! ^_^
My only annoyance with Essie is that they changed the size of their bottles but they kept the hefty price the same! Full sized Essie polishes used to be .5 fl oz, now they’re .46 fl oz. Not cool Essie. NOT COOL.
UPDATE: According to one of my lovely fellow bloggers (Susan of The Subtle Shimmer), the size/volume of the Essie bottles has NOT changed, but they are now required to state the volume to 2 decimal places. Makes perfect sense now, so I detract my previous outrage.
I found the Go Overboard Collection at my local Target store. They usually retail at $8.00 per .46 fl oz bottle of polish (I paid $7.49).
I apologize for the sporadic nature of my posts lately, December is a busy busy month for me so bear with me folks. I’m thrilled that everyone seemed to enjoy my last post with makeup swatches! You cannot believe how incredibly nervous I was to post those!
Today I’ve got more makeup swatches to share, this time I’ve got the new Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters to show you all! These things are AMAZING! I’d been searching high and low for these ever since I’d first heard of them and I finally found a display of them at my local Target. I snagged four of them to start out with: Tutti Frutti, Candy Apple, Pink Truffle, and Sugar Plum.
Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters
Candy Apple is a pretty orange leaning red creme, definitely one of my favorites. I’m wearing it a bit sheer in this photo but it’s quite pigmented and can be built up to a nice opacity. I wore in out on another occasion and built it up to a lovely bright red that really popped!
Sugar Plum is a gorgeous berry hued creme, but on my skin tone is looks like a neutral. I love this one! It’s very wearable for me and I can see myself using this one a lot in a multitude of settings. It’s like a glossy/balanced version of my natural lip color.
Pink Truffle really took me by surprise! It looks so much darker in the tube than it does on my lips. But I think if I built this up more I could play with the opacity a bit. I like it though, it’s a very feminine and light pink but not so bright that I fee like I’m Nikki Minaj.
And finally my favorite of the four I purchased, Tutti Frutti (love the name on this one)! It’s a splendiferous (there’s that word again…) orange coral creme and the color is friggin’ fabulous! I could wear this lip butter every day for the rest of my life and die happy. It’s just so fun and flattering and different, yet still wearable for warmer skin tones. Orange is also one of my favorite colors so I might be just a teeeeny bit biased.
OMG Y’all… These lip butters kicks all sorts of ass! I can see myself eventually owning all of the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters in the future. They have the softness and hydrating quality of a chapstick, but the pigmentation and color payoff of a lipstick. It’s like you get the best of both worlds! According to Revlon’s website some of the key ingredients are mango, shea, and coconut butter. These ingredients are relevant to my interests. I could usually get about 3-4 hours of wear time with these before I needed to touch up the color (more if I wasn’t eating or drinking).
So it’s a good thing these babies are getting added to Revlon’s permanent line of products! There is an extensive variety of shades and finishes (20 currently) to choose from. I ended up with all cremes this time around but there are plenty that have a fine shimmer finish that are available.
I purchased my Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters at Target for $6.49 each. You can also find them at Walmart, Rite Aid, CVS and Walgreens with pricing varying between $6.49 to $8.00ish per lip butter.
I’m so sorry for the looooong hiatus (long for me, hah!) from my blog. I caught the flu last Tuesday and I literally didn’t leave my bedroom for an entire week. I had no energy to blog even though I wanted to. But I’m finally feeling better and I’m back with something a little different for you all… Makeup swatches! I ended up snagging all four of the Milani Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lip Glosses during Milani’s Cyber Monday Sale a few weeks ago. I’d been lemming them for a super long time, and when they were available for 50% off and free shipping during the sale I pounced on the opportunity to buy them all!
This is my very first time swatching makeup EVER so be gentle.
P.S. – If you haven’t entered the Holiday Beauty Blogger Holiday Giveaway you only have 4 days left! The prize is a $500 Visa Gift Card, and this giveaway is open internationally! Click [HERE] to find out more. ^_^
Milani Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lip Gloss
From top to bottom: Flashy, In A Flash, Hot Flash, Star Flash.
Star Flash is a pale pink gloss with a blue shimmer. It’s pretty frosty on my lips but I do like the flash of blue/purple shimmer. It looks a bit celestial so I think the name Star Flash is quite fitting for this one.
In A Flash
I really love these shimmer lip glosses! They’re extremely pigmented and I love that the shimmer can be seen in any lighting. All of the Milani Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lip Glosses have doe foot applicators. I had to use 2-3 dips to get full coverage but they apply very smoothly, even with the intense shimmer. They have a slightly sweet scent to them, almost like candy but not cloyingly sweet. They are a bit on the sticky side, so if you’re not a fan of sticky feeling gloss then these may not be for you. The only one I could take or leave is Star Flash, I think it’s just a touch too frosty/cool for my skintone. ^_^
And one more cool thing about these is the fact that they’re dead on dupes for MAC’s Dare To Wear Lipglasses! Kelly from Vampy Varnish did a great comparison at the end of her post for the Haute Flash Collection. You can see it [HERE] by scrolling to the bottom of the post.
The Milani Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lip Gloss shades are a limited edition collection that was introduced back in July. I don’t think they’re available in stores any more but you can still find them on Milani.com and CherryCulture. Retail cost is $6.99 each.
