Deuling Duochromes: Missha HGR01 vs. Chanel Peridot
I’m going to apologize now because this post is going to be FULL of pictures, so if you’re on dial-up I would suggest that you go grab some snacks while you’re waiting for all of these glorious pictures to load.
I admit that I was on the fence for a very long time when it came to Peridot. The first swatches I saw of it did not wow me and I figured that I could live without it. Then as time went on my resolve wavered, and then The Swatchaholic posted her glorious pictures and I was done for. I bought it right away.
This was also around the same time that Jellynat introduced me to the glory that is called Missha HGR01. Not a super interesting name, but the polish itself is absolutely stunning! So of course I bought that one as well. What can I say, I’m a sucker for duochromes.
Without further babbling, let’s get down to the pictures. I’ll spam you with Chanel’s Peridot first, then I’ll show you Missha’s HGR01. And then I’ll KO you with the comparison. They are NOT dupes, I’d like to think of them more as BFFs.
Each swatch was done with Seche Vite top coat and Sally Hansen Nail Quencher base coat. Endless pictures are behind the cut. ^_^
Chanel – Peridot
Peridot is a gold/green duochrome with a pearl finish. I was hoping that the flashes of blue that you see in the bottle would translate to the nail, sadly they do not. Nevertheless, Peridot is still a wonderful duochrome. It was opaque after two coats and showed minimal brush strokes even though it has a pearly/frosty finish. Peridot spam time!
Missha – HGR01
HGR01 is a teal/green duochrome that also has that pearly/frost finish. You have to be a little more careful with HGR01 because this one will show your brush strokes a bit more than Peridot does. HGR01 has a very wide brush. I have pretty tiny fingers so I was able to cover my entire nail perfectly with one stroke. This is two coats. It’s also rose scented, which is a little strange but I doubt the scent would last longer than 24 hours. I HOPE the scent doesn’t last longer than 24 hours. Spammin’ time!
Peridot vs. HGR01
Yep, definitely not dupes. Peridot is more golden in its base color with a transition to green. And HGR01 starts out as a leafy green which then flows into a teal blue. (Shown in following pictures)
This picture gives you a really great view of the differences between these two duochromes. Both beautiful, but definitely not the same.
I love both of these polishes! Duochromes are one of my absolute favorite finishes so to be able to find two green ones is a treat for me. Peridot had the best application, but HGR01 is winning me over with the cute heart-shaped bottle that it comes in (forgot to take a picture of it, or course). HGR01 is the more budget friendly of the two, but if you can afford it I think there is room for both of these in your nail polish collection.
Chanel polishes can be purchased at most high-end department stores nationwide, or through their website for $25/each. I got my Missha polish on ebay for around $12, though it is also available through their official website (Korea only).
