Periwinkle

Morning Everyone!

I cannot believe it’s August already! Pretty soon the leaves will start to turn and we’ll be in fall mode. I cannot wait! :-D

Today I’ve got the next member of Black ‘n’ Blue Week to share with you all, this time I have Periwinkle by Claire’s. I picked this one up during a blog sale, I’m pretty sure this is the only polish by Claire’s that I own. I could be wrong, I still have a while to go before I swatch all the polishes in my stash. Also, since this polish is a duo-chrome you should prepare yourself for some pic spamming. :-D

All swatches shown today are done with Seche Vite top coat and Sally Hansen Nail Quencher base coat.

Periwinkle

Periwinkle
When I first glanced at Periwinkle I was definitely expecting a strong duo-chromatic polish from the colors that were displayed in the bottle. Once I started to apply the polish I realized that Periwinkle is incredibly sheer, this is four coats! I also realized that the polish itself was a fairly translucent blurple color that built up like a jelly, and that the duo-chromatic component of the polish was actually the multi-toned shimmer.

This one was a bit tricky to photograph, the color shift is quite subtle but you can see around the side of my nails the shift from blue to purple.
Periwinkle
This polish reminded me a bit of colorful sand-washed pieces of glass you see at jewelry boutiques. A little worn looking, but in an elegant way.

Here in the close-up you can get a better idea of the duo-chromatic shift. At the bottom edge of my nail you can definitely note the more purple leaning hue and also see tons of blue shimmer. Then at the side closer to the top of the picture you can see the shimmer shifting to the purple color. It’s pretty fascinating. :-)

A few more pictures where the shimmer has definitely shifted to the purple side, while the polish itself remains a deep periwinkle blue. :-)

Final Thoughts:

I’m really quite intrigued by this polish! The multi-dimensional aspect of the color shifts in it leave me staring at my nails and shifting my fingers around in an attempt to notice all of the intricacies that Periwinkle presents. I have plenty of multi/duo-chromatic polishes in my collection, but only a few of them where it’s the shimmer that is the main focus of the polish. I’m quite thrilled that I have this one in my collection. :-)

Purchase Info:

I don’t believe that Claire’s still carries this color anymore, at least I was not able to find it in their stores or on their website. Unfortunately for this one I’m thinking your best bet is to get lucky on ebay. Or maybe you’ll find it in a blog sale just like I did. ;-)
