Pixel: Humdinger, Oh Golly Gee!!, & Aqua-Escence (swatches & review)
Morning Everyone!
Today I’ve got three polishes by Pixel, another brand that is new to me, to share with you all. My lovely friend Dana went to Ulta a few weeks ago and had a wee bit of a shopping spree. She called me while she was there to see if I wanted anything since I don’t have an Ulta where I live. Of course I said “hell yes!”, and she grabbed a nice sized haul to send me in the mail. I’ll be swatching the remainder of the Ulta haul throughout the rest of this month
According to the description on the Ulta website, Pixel is a 3-Free brand. This means their polishes do not contain DBP, Toluene or Formaldehyde. They promise a long wearing, no chip salon quality formula and have over 72 colors to choose from. I haven’t done a wear test on these yet so I’ll have to update you on that claim in the future.
All swatches shown today are done with Seche Vite top coat and Sally Hansen Nail Quencher base coat.
Humdinger
I really like the name of this one. According to the dictionary, the definition for a humdinger is: ‘One that is extraordinary or remarkable’, and I think I’d have to agree with that assessment! Humdinger is a rich, sapphire blue polish with subtle shimmer.
The first coat was a bit streaky but it quickly evened out after the second coat of polish. Humdinger reminds me a bit of my beloved Indigo Paris by Lancôme, I will have to do a comparison post to see how similar they really are.
Aqua-Escence
Aqua-Escence is a gorgeous teal/aqua green with subtle gold shimmer. This one is definitely my favorite of the three Pixel polishes that I tried. Aqua-Escence has a nice buttery smooth formula, I used three thin coats but probably could have stopped at two.
The gold shimmer in this one is extraordinary! Instead of this being just another teal green polish, the shimmer takes it to another level. Click the macro shot for a super-sized view on this beauty.
Oh Golly Gee!!
Initially I was not thrilled with Oh Golly Gee!! When I applied it to my pointer finger it was so incredibly sheer that I needed five coats before it even remotely came close to resembling the shade in the bottle! Even then, it kinda just made it look like I had a sickly looking fingernail.
But then I decided to layer it over black. That’s when the magic happened…
When Oh Golly Gee!! meets black nail polish a beautiful multi-chromatic baby is born! Look at how different this one looks when I layered two coats of Oh Golly Gee!! over black compared to the sad and bland color on my pointer finger (five coats, I mean really…)!
The colors in Oh Golly Gee!! range from a reddish bronze, to a copper, to yellow then sometimes to a brown. It’s rather stunning!
Just take a minute to look at how gorgeous this macro is (click the photo to super-size it). Are you drooling yet? It’s okay, I won’t think any less of you.
Final Thoughts:
I was pleasantly surprised by the Pixel brand. I had seen them on the Ulta website but never really gave it much thought since most of the colors looks pretty standard. The color payoff for Humdinger and Aqua-Escence is fantastic, and to top it off there was a hidden multi-chrome in the mix?! Color me impressed.
The bottles are pretty tiny but for less than $3 bucks a piece they would make nice little stocking stuffers. I’m already thinking about Christmas, yeesh!
Purchase Info:
Pixel nail polish can be purchased at Ulta stores nationwide and on ulta.com. They retail at $2.49/ea for a .17 fl oz bottle.

Oh, wow! These look great, especially Oh Golly Glee!
