Layering Experiment No. 6 – My Rainbow Fish Nails
I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine has been pretty hit or miss since I’ve been a bit sickly on and off all week. Blah. But the manicure I’ve been sporting has been keeping my spirits up! After seeing my Canadian pal Kirsten’s gorgeous fish scale layering mani I felt inspired to play around with my Red Angel Stamps to see if I could come up with my own version of a fish scale look. I’m pretty pleased with my results, I hope you are too!
This post is pretty picture heavy. *puts on sunglasses* Deal with it. 8)
Rainbow Fish Nails
I love this manicure so much that I honestly don’t ever want to take it off! Well, at least until I get some seriously noticeable tip wear. I started off with 2 coats of OPI DS Magic, a gorgeous royal blue polish filled with duo chrome blue glass flecks that flash purple. I then added 1 coat of Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure, which is probably one of my favorite polishes EVER. Then I took my Red Angel stamp, RA-111 and used A England Holy Grail to add the “fish scale” pattern for my finished look. All of my co-workers and my boyfriend said it reminded them of The Rainbow Fish. I can see it. It also reminds me of stained glass. Either way, I’m in love.
Here’s some close-up shots for you all, you definitely need to enlarge these two photos to see all the flakie/glass flecked goodness. ♥
Mattified With Essie Matte About You
I wanted to see what the manicure looked like mattified so I added 1 coat of Essie’s Matte About You top coat… So I didn’t think it could get better but it did!! I am loving the way this looks with the matte finish! It reminds me of frosted over windows in winter.

That’s it for today! And I’d like to add that this manicure has been wearing like iron on my nails! I’ve had it on since early last week and I hardly have any tip wear. I’m also sporting DS Magic on my toes, I got it from my boyfriend’s mom for Christmas (along with DS Classic which I haven’t tried yet) and it’s quickly become a favorite. Thanks mom number 2!
