Black And White Challenge Day 10: Your Choice With Black And White

11

Happy Saturday Everyone!

So I haven’t played GW2 yet, getting ready to play right after I finish this post though! Instead I went to see Cabin In The Woods for the second time! This time I went with my boyfriend and he enjoyed it as much as I did. If you’re a fan of Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Angel, etc) you’re gonna love this movie!

Today we’re finally on our last day of the Black and White Challenge. And for Day 10 we decided to recreate our favorite black and white challenge day from one of the other girls to recreate! I decided to try my hand at Emily’s Day 7 Nails (Black & White w/Glitters). Let’s take a look to see how I did! :-D

Black And White Challenge Day 10: Your Choice With Black And White

Day 10: Your Choice With Black & White
Day 10: Your Choice With Black & White
Day 10: Your Choice With Black & White
This was my very first time working with striping tape, and other than losing where the tape started on the wheel a few times I had a lot fun with it. :-) I started out with 2 coats of Sally Hansen White On, then I added 1 coat of Jawbreaker by Pretty & Polish over it. After it dried, I made my stripes with the tape on each nail. Then I added a thick coat of The Black Knight by Butter London and then I removed the striping tape while the polish was still wet.
Day 10: Your Choice With Black & White
Here’s a macro shot! I finished everything off with a coat of Gelous and 1 coat of Seche Vite Top Coat.

I didn’t feel like doing both hands with the striping tape so I decided to just wear The Black Knight layered over 2 coats of Glitter Gal Serpent Black. I loooooooooooooove it! :-D

I hope you all have enjoyed watching our creations for the month of April. Check out the rest of the Sexy5 and their take on the Day 10 Challenge!! ^_^

OPI NYC Ballet Soft Shades 2012 Collection – Swatches & Review

20

Morning Lovelies!

I hope you’re all having a great Thursday so far. Mine is already great for several reasons.

  • I’m going to see Big Gigantic in concert with my boyfriend and co. tonight!
  • No more midnight shifts until Tuesday of next week for this girl! I still have the nail tech apprenticeship at the salon today and Saturday, but I’ll take what I can get. ;-)
  • The first Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend Event starts on Friday!!

I don’t know if any of you have played the original Guild Wars, but I was mildly obsessed with that game when it first came out. I’ve been waiting patiently for GW2 for years and I’m so excited to be able to try it out early (the game releases in late July). Are any of you fine folks taking part of the beta weekend as well? If so, find me in-game! My Guild Wars 2 User ID is Nymeria.4326 (if you get the reference on the name you win 100 internets ;-))

But I digress, let’s get back to the topic of nail polish shall we? :-)

I’m happy to show you the beautiful OPI NYC Ballet Soft Shades Collection for 2012! I initially wasn’t too interested in this 6 polish collection because I just really don’t wear a lot of sheers or neutrals. But once I realized that 5 out of the 6 had milky jelly finishes I was all in. :-D

I used Cult Nails Get It On Base Coat for all swatches shown today. All polish swatches without Pirouette My Whistle have Essie Good To Go Top Coat. All swatches shown with Pirouette My Whistle DO NOT have top coat. :-D

Care To Danse?

Care To Danse?
Care To Danse?
Care To Danse? is a pale lavender jelly with a milky base. It looks a bit more purple in the bottle than it did on my nails, perhaps I needed a 4th coat to bring out the color a little more.

You Callin’ Me A Lyre?

You Callin' Me A Lyre?
You Callin' Me A Lyre?
You Callin’ Me A Lyre? is probably one of my favorites in the collection. Yes, you heard me correctly. I said that a sheer neutral pink polish is a favorite of mine! 8O I used 3 coats here as well.

Barre My Soul

Barre My Soul
Barre My Soul
Barre My Soul is a white based very light beige and another one that I really enjoyed. If I ever do wear neutral polishes I gravitate toward beige and a jelly beige is just… Love. :-D Again, 3 coats.

Don’t Touch My Tutu!

Don't Touch My Tutu!
Don't Touch My Tutu!
Don’t Touch My Tutu! is a milky white polish that I really love! It has a thicker consistency (unlike my other go-to white jelly, Essie Marshmallow) and it’s really easy to apply. This is 3 coats.

My Pointe Exactly

My Pointe Exactly
My Pointe Exactly
My Pointe Exactly is…. FANTASTIC. I already love grey polishes, and any day I can get my hands on a grey jelly is a good day. This is (take a guess!) 3 coats. :-)

Pirouette My Whistle

Pirouette My Whistle
Pirouette My Whistle has a clear base that’s filled with teeny tiny silver glitter and larger white hex glitter pieces. I didn’t swatch it alone because my pointer finger is still rocking a stain from whatever hell-beast green polish I was wearing on that finger for my St. Patrick’s Day mani, and I was wearing a base coat! I did layer 1 coat of Pirouette My Whistle over the other 5 polishes from this collection and it’s a lovely combo folks!

It’s so shiny on its own that I decided not to use top coat over it in the following swatches, though you should definitely add top coat when you’re wearing this to make your manicure last longer. :-D

Final Thoughts:

OPI is kicking butt and taking names in the jelly polish department. ;-) The formula on each and every one of these was AMAZING. They were thicker than your normal sheer polishes but not so thick that it caused leveling issues. I actually preferred doing thicker coats with these polishes for more color payoff. The dry time was incredibly fast on all 6 polishes, and they were all so shiny that top coat wasn’t even necessary.

I can’t really name a favorite because I loved them all! And I can’t wait to try using these for ‘glitter sandwich’ manicures! I also see this collection being great for the wedding season. ^_^

Purchase Info

The NYC Ballet Soft Shades 2012 Collection by OPI retails for around $8.50 per .5 fl oz bottle of polish. They can be purchased at your local professional salons and spas nationwide. You an also purchase them at larger chain salons, including (but not limited to) JCPenny, Dillards, Regis, Pure Beauty, Trade Secret, and Ulta.

Black And White Challenge Day 9: Water Marble!

23

Morning Everyone!

We’re almost done with our Black and White Challenge, man this month has flown by! For our Day 9 challenge we had to create a water marble manicure. This manicure is notorious for being a royal pain in the ass for most, and it’s definitely tedious no matter what. But I generally love the results I get after hours of swearing and muttering to myself. :-D

I did both of my hands and kinda forgot a few steps in the process, thus making most of my nails a muddled marble mess (alliteration high-five!). But by the time I realized what I was doing wrong (not removing the layer of polish around my finger before I took it out of the water) I really didn’t feel like doing my nails over again. So it is what it is, and at least 3 out of 10 fingers turned out how I wanted them to! ;-)

Black And White Challenge Day 9: Water Marble!

Day 9: Water Marbling
Day 9: Water Marbling
I started out with 2 coats of Sally Hansen White On for my base. Then for the water marble I kinda alternated between using the following polishes in a mad scientist sort of way :-P:

Wet n Wild – French White Creme and Black Creme
Sally Hansen – White On
A England – Camelot
Day 9: Water Marbling
Day 9: Water Marbling
As you can tell, my pinky and my ring finger look a bit murky since I hadn’t figured out what I was doing wrong until I got to my middle finger on my left hand. Whoops. I still like it though, it kinda reminds me of dirty marble counter tops. :-P

Rescue Beauty Lounge Anne Swatches & Review

13

Morning Everyone!!

I’ve got another BIB polish to show you from Rescue Beauty Lounge! This time we’re looking at RBL Anne, a polish I’d been lusting after for quite some time and one that I immediately splurged on once it was available again. ^_^

I used Seche Vite top coat and Sally Hansen Nail Quencher for my base coat today.

BTW: The RBL Fan Collection polishes have gone on sale!! If you missed my swatches you can see them [HERE]. IKB:2012 and Aqua Lily have sold out already!! 8O

Rescue Beauty Lounge Anne

Anne
Anne
Anne is a polish that was simply MADE to be on my nails. As soon as I saw this dark olive green beauty I knew it had to be mine. :-D This polish is rather awesome. Not only is it a gorgeous murky olive tone, but it’s filled with antique gold and bright fuchsia pink shimmer! I have a few greens like this in my collection but none of them hold a candle to Anne!

*note to self – do a comparison post in the future….  ♥

Anne looks different depending on your lighting, but the shimmer never fully goes away. I used 2 coats for my swatches and the application was a breeze.
Anne w/camera flash
Here’s a picture of Anne with camera flash. Doesn’t the color combination just take your breath away!? *le swoon x10*
Anne
And here’s a macro shot. It really doesn’t get any better than this folks. ^_^

Final Thoughts:

Well, I’m a sucker for these olive greens. I think they look killer with my skin tone and green is one of my favorite colors to begin with, so Anne had me wrapped around her little finger from the start. ;-)

Purchase Info:

Anne can be purchased from RescueBeauty.com. While all new polishes from RBL will cost $20/ea (details on that [HERE]), Anne will still retail at $18/ea for a 0.4 fl oz bottle of polish. :-D

Black And White Challenge Day 8: Sponging!

13

Hey Everyone!

It’s Day 8 of the Black and White Challenge and we’re tasked with sponged nail art for today. I’m gonna keep this short and sweet because I’m out the door, but I hope you like it. :-D

Black And White Challenge Day 7: Black & White With Glitters [Sandwich]!

30

Hey Everyone!!

We’re almost done with our Black and White challenge folks, time is zooming by! If you missed any of the previous days you can see them all by clicking [HERE]. It’s Day 7 now, and our task today was to create a manicure with black and white with glitter! I love black and white glitter in nail polish!

So today I pulled out all of my black and white glitters that I own and slapped them on my nails. Yes, you heard me… ALL of my black and white glitters. :-D Well all of them except for Nubar’s White Polka Dot, which I forgot I owned. Next time Nubar, next time. ;-)

Wanna see how it turned out? Look no further! ^_^

Black And White Challenge Day 7: Black & White With Glitters [Sandwich]!

Day 6: Black And White With Glitter
Day 6: Black And White With Glitter
Day 6: Black And White With Glitter

I kinda went to Glitter Valhalla with this one you guys. Annnnnnd I love it! Nothing is better than a big fat glitter sandwich! :-D

Glitter Sandwich ‘Recipe’:

Your favorite base coat (Cult Nails Get It On for me!)

2 coats of Sally Hansen – White On (base color on my ring and pointer fingers)
2 coats of China Glaze – Liquid Leather (base color on thumb, middle and pinky fingers)
1 coat of L.A. Girl – Uninhibited (on my pointer and ring fingers)
1 coat of Essie – Marshmallow (on my pointer and ring fingers)
1 coat of Lynnderella – Snow Angel (on my thumb, middle, and pinky fingers, then one more thin coat of ChG Liquid leather over it)
1 coat of Lynnderella – Connect The Dots (on every finger)

Crazy mix o’ polishes, right?! :-) I then topped everything off with a coat of Gelous followed by a coat of Seche Vite. Can you believe this crap was actually dry to the touch in 10 minutes?! :-D
Day 6: Black And White With Glitter
Here’s a macro of my white glitter sandwich. I love how Uninhibited looks floating around underneath Essie Marshmallow!
Day 6: Black And White With Glitter
And finally, a macro shot of the black glitter sandwich. The micro-shimmer in Connect The Dots really pops! And I love the murky white look of the glitter floating inside the layers of ChG Liquid Leather. Clicking on both of these to enlarge the photos is a MUST.

Say it with me folks:  *le swoon*  ;-)

Black And White Challenge Day 6: Color Base With White (And Nail-Venturous Floam!)

14

Morning Everyone!

So I almost forgot today was a challenge day. I was sick all day yesterday and nearly forgot to get my Day 6 challenge post ready to go! I’m going to keep this short today because it’s 3am and I’m pretty wiped out. 8O

Today’s Black and White Challenge is a Color Base With White. A few girls on twitter had asked about stamping over Floam, an awesome green and yellow polish by I’m Feeling Nail-Venturous that looks just like the old Nickelodeon product of my childhood. Since I was lucky enough to snag a bottle of Floam I was happy to oblige. :-D

Day 6: Color Base With White
Day 6: Color Base With White
I used the Red Angel RA-114 stamp and Konad Special White for this look. The white stamping turned out much better this time than my last attempt. I really love how this turned out!

Nail-Venturous Floam!

Nail-Venturous Floam
Nail-Venturous Floam
Nail-Venturous Floam is an amazing polish! It’s made up of a super dense concentration of green and blue glitter, with a clear suspension base. It was actually a bit too thick on my first coat so I added a few drops of thinner and the application was a breeze after that. I used 3 coats for full coverage, although most people would be fine with 2 coats. As will all glitters, removal is a pain in the ass. And expect to find stray blue and green glitter EVERYWHERE for the next few days. ;-)
Nail-Venturous Floam
And a gratuitous macro shot of Floam. You’ll want to enlarge this photo for sure. ^_^

Black And White Challenge – Day 5: Color Base With Black (Plus A Layering Experiment!)

30

Morning Everybody!!

I’m really excited about my Black and White Challenge Day 5 nails (Color Base With Black). I was already wearing the lovely combination of SinfulColors Cinderella and Wet n Wild I Need A Refresh-Mint and I wasn’t quite ready to take it off yet. Then I remembered the beautiful ‘Flight of the Bumblebee’ manicure that The Daily Nail created, and knew what I wanted to do for today!

Let’s move right into the pictures guys!

Black And White Challenge – Day 5: Color Base With Black

Day 5: Color Base With Black
I flippin’ LOVE how this manicure turned out you all! :-D It was such a fun and cute way to incorporate black into my manicure for today’s challenge.
Day 5: Color Base With Black
Day 5: Color Base With Black
I used LA Colors Art Deco nail art polishes in Black, Yellow, and White. I put a large drop of each color that I wanted to used on a scrap of wax paper and then I used small nail art brushes to paint the lines and the bumblebee. And the layering of Cinderella and I Need A Refresh-Mint is such a perfect background for this! :-D
Day 5: Color Base With Black
Here’s a close-up of the bumblebee, it’s so cute!

In reality I am absolutely batshit TERRIFIED of bees, wasps, hornets, anything-that-may-fly-and-sound-like-a-buzzing-bee, etc. I will run screaming in all of the above scenarios. But the one on my thumb is fine in my books. ;-)

Layering: Wet n Wild I Need A Refresh-Mint + Sinful Colors Cinderella

SinfulColors Cinderella + Wet n Wild I Need A Refresh-Mint
SinfulColors Cinderella + Wet n Wild I Need A Refresh-Mint
SinfulColors Cinderella + Wet n Wild I Need A Refresh-Mint
And here’s my original layering and the base for Mr. Bee. I used 1 coat of Wet n Wild’s I Need A Refresh-Mint (a blue-tinged mint green creme and a near identical dupe for ChG For Audrey!) and 1 coat of SinfulColors Cinderella (a sheer baby blue with pink glass flecks). Oh-so-lovely, and I don’t wanna take it off. *le swoon*
SinfulColors Cinderella + Wet n Wild I Need A Refresh-Mint
And here’s a close-up for you all. I absolutely LOVE the pink shimmer in Cinderella. Actually both colors are fabulous, I’ll need to showcase them on their own some day. :-D

I hope you all enjoyed my Day 5 nails for the challenge!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Scrangie Swatches & Review

16

Hey Everyone!

Today I’m happy to share with you one of the biggest polish lemmings that I’ve had for almost 2 years, Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Scrangie! Back in late 2010 when I’d first heard about this amazing polish it had already been long gone and sold out from RBL’s Fall 2009 Blogger Collection. I was resigned to the fact that I would never get my hands on this gorgeous polish created by – and named after – the forever awesome blogger Scrangie, and I would just have to stare longingly at all of the swatches of this amazing polish online. :-(

But alas! Ji, the amazing lady behind RBL, held a 2nd Bring it Back vote and Scrangie was one of the winners (along with another little polish called Anne that I’ll be sharing soon…)!!

Let’s move onto the swatches of this gorgeous polish!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Scrangie

Scrangie
Scrangie
Scrangie is a blurple (blue-purple) shade that’s filled with blue-green glass-flecks. This polish is TO-DIE-FOR. In my notes (yes, I take notes when I’m swatching :-P) I highlighted the phrase “holy sh*t. ♥” when I was referring to this nail polish. :-D

The blogger Scrangie created this polish as a combination of her favorite colors (blue, green and purple) to mimic the wings of a scarab beetle. It comes out more purple on me but it has a definite blue tone on Scrangies pretty digits. This polish is truly a chameleon.

Scrangie was a dream to apply. It was thin, but not runny, and built up to opacity in 3 easy coats. Just pure perfection in a jar! :-D
Scrangie w/camera flash
And here’s a picture with camera flash. What I love about Scrangie is that the shimmering glass flecks show up no matter what level of lighting you’re in. :-)
Scrangie
And here’s a macro shot. You really… REALLY need to see this at the maximum size.

*le swoon*
Scrangie
And here’s a bottle shot for your viewing pleasure. This was a picture from when I was still using Picnik to edit my photos so this picture does not do the polish enough justice in my humble opinion. You really need to see it for yourselves. :-D

Final Thoughts:

If you hadn’t realized by now, I frickin’ LOVE this polish! I’m so happy that Ji was able to recreate Scrangie for all of us that missed out the first time around when it was released in 2009.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe it’s still limited edition, so if you missed purchasing it before I wouldn’t hesitate to snatch it up now. Cause once it’s out of stock again it may be gone forever this time. :-?

Purchase Info

Scrangie can be purchased from RescueBeauty.com. While all new polishes from RBL will cost $20/ea (details on that [HERE]), Scrangie will still retail at $18/ea for a 0.4 fl oz bottle of polish. :-D

Black And White Challenge – Day 4: White Base With Color

36

Morning Everyone!!

I’m back with Day 4 of the Black and White Challenge, this time it’s a white base with color that the crew and I needed to achieve. I decided to try doing ‘Doodle Nails’. If you’re not familiar with them, check out MaD Manis post [HERE]. She also linked to several other great bloggers that created ‘Doodle Nails’ as well. ^_^

Black And White Challenge – Day 4: White Base With Color

Day 4: White Base With Color
Day 4: White Base With Color
Day 4: White Base With Color
I started out with 2 coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On and a coat of Seche Vite. I absolutely LOVE this white! It’s opaque in two coats and is relatively streak free. :-D I’ll have to try it out with stamping next time!

Then I took a tip from Amanda of MaD Manis and used Sharpie markers to add the ‘paper’ details and the doodles. I think it turned out pretty cute! My lines look a bit shaky but that’s because I was being impatient and trying to draw on still dentable polish. :-P

Also I did not add top coat. I tried adding it to my right thumb and it smeared all of the lines, so I had to scratch that idea.

Next time I do these though I think I’ll try using nail polish for the details. All of the black and red ink had completely faded off my nails several hours later. :-(
Day 4: White Base With Color
And just for kicks, here’s my right hand. Line work? NAILED IT. :-P I drew the little stick figure on my ring finger and gave up, lol. The rest of the doodles on this hand were drawn by my roommate, thanks Brenda! :-D

And here’s the challenge list again and what we’ve covered so far, just in case you’ve missed anything. You can see all of the other challenge day posts right [HERE]! :-D
