Today I’ve got my picks from the Spring 2012 Essie Navigate Her Collection. As soon as I saw these polishes I knew I had to have them. I’ve featured my 3 picks here and there online but I realized that I hadn’t show you all true swatches of the collection. So just in case you missed the swatches on 9304834.3 other blogs by now, I’ll add mine to the mix.
Orange, It’s Obvious!
This is the color orange. This is me. We’re married.
I used 2 coats here. Orange, It’s Obvious! is very pigmented. But it also stains, so double up on your base coat and be careful with removal if you don’t want ‘cheetos fingers‘.
Olé Caliente is a bright red coral creme that leans orange on my skintone. I love it! The name is perfect because it reminds me of red chilis and Sriracha hot sauce. I used 2 coats here, another super pigmented and easy formula. No staining with this one though. ^_^
Navigate Her was the one that I NEEDED. Even if I couldn’t find the other two on my wishlist, owning Navigate Her was a necessity for me. This is the perfect non-pastel pistachio green creme that I was missing from my collection. I love it! The formula was thin and a little streaky, so 3 coats were necessary in order to level everything out. WORTH IT!
I positively love all 3 of my picks from the Navigate Her Collection. If you want to see the entire 6 polish set, you can check out great swatches by Ommorphia Beauty Bar, Scrangie, and The PolishAholic.
I found the Navigate Her Collection at my local Target store. They usually retail at $8.00 per .46 fl oz bottle of polish (I paid $7.49).

I’m really excited to be able to share this collection with you all today, the new Rescue Beauty Lounge GOMM Collection! When Ji told me that she was making her biggest collection yet of 7 polishes I think my jaw almost hit the floor. And when I finally had these babies in my hot little hands, I’m pretty sure I died for a few minutes. 6 cremes with hidden shimmer AND a jelly-creme hybrid? Mama like. This collection has such a phenomenal range of hues and the inspiration behind it is truly wonderful.
I used Rescue Beauty Lounge Base Coat and Top Coat for all my swatches today. Clicking any image will bring you to the enlarged photo on my Flickr account.
Edit: Had to make some adjustments to this post because a certain museum has decided to throw a tantrum. You can find more info [HERE].
Abi is a beautiful pea green creme with a subtle silver shimmer. I’m pretty sure I cooed at this one when I took it out of the box for the first time! It was a little streaky on the first coat but 2 coats was all it took to get this one to opacity.
Here’s a picture with flash (aka imitation sun because it was midnight when I was swatching ) so you can get a better look at the hidden shimmer. I’ll be doing this with all the subtle shimmer polishes in this review.
And some bottle porn. Because it’s just fun.
Bella is a slightly off-white milky jelly/creme hybrid with just a hint of beige. This one reminds me a lot of the gorgeous jellies in the OPI NYC Ballet Soft Shades Collection. While I did find this one to be level at 2 coats, it was a little too sheer for my tastes so what you see here is 3 coats of Bella. This polish is much more opaque at 3 coats than any of the OPI NYC Soft Shades polishes, where I still have visible VNL at 4 coats!
Faraway is a stunning sky blue with subtle light blue-green shimmer. I love this one! It’s such a cheery color and I can see myself wearing this one a lot. The formula on this one was thin but it was still opaque after 2 coats.
Your bottle shot of Ghost, this polish has my heart wrapped around it’s pretty copper penny fingers.
Oh man… This was yet another love at first sight. Just look at that red! Poppy is a perfect bright poppy red with a beautiful orange/fuchsia duochromatic shimmer. I’ve never seen another polish quite like this one! Before I even swatched this collection for the blog I just HAD to have this polish on my toes immediately. I’ve been wearing for a week now and it’s so damn pretty!
But back to my fingers, the pigmentation on this is wonderful and the formula is superb! 2 easy coats and NO staining!
And last but certainly not least, we have Santa Fe. I saw this one and got so excited! You all know how much I love my orange polishes! Ocher is the perfect description for this polish, it’s a gorgeous burnt orange creme with a golden shimmer. And it’s such an unusual color to be seen in summer collections, but I’m happy it’s here because I adore it! This one also had a medium thick formula and while I used 2 coats here it was definitely almost a one-coater.
I had a little bit of trouble initially getting Santa Fe to level out but I just needed to wait longer for it to dry between coats. Once I decided to be patient with it I no longer had leveling issues.
Shot with camera flash, the color warms up in the “sun” to a golden orange. Simply takes my breath away. ♥
And a bottle shot of Santa Fe for you guys. I LOVE the shimmer in this one a lot. ^_^
Wow. Ji has really done it again for me with this entire collection! The polishes are beautiful, the formulas are damn near flawless (which I would expect at the price point), and the inspiration behind them is literally a work of art! As much as I love Bella, I’m not sure if it’s a must-have with this collection if you already own the OPI Soft Shades. With that said, I don’t believe that Bella Donna is a dupe for any of the OPIs and its formula is more opaque than any of the Soft Shades. Though I love them all, my stand-out favorites are Ghost, Poppy, Santa Fe and Abi.
The Rescue Beauty Lounge GOMM Collection will be available exclusively at www.rescuebeauty.com for Pre-Sale at the beginning of June, sign up for the RBL VIP email list to be notified of pre-sale dates and official release dates! The polishes retail at $20 per 0.4 fl oz bottle of polish. They contain no harmful Toluene, Formaldehyde, DBP, or Formaldehyde Resin and they do not test on animals.

Happy Monday! Well, it’s happy for me because this girl has 4 nights off from her overnight job! Which means, hellooooooo Swatch-A-Thons and Ultra-Mega-Diablo III gaming sessions! What more could a girl ask for?
Today I’ve got 4 polishes from the Orly Feel The Vibe Collection to share with you all. I ended up snagging the mini set because I only wanted the neons out of the collection anyway. They’re great!
I used Cult Nails Get It On Base Coat and Wicked Fast Top Coat for today’s swatches. ^_^
Glowstick is a BRIGHT neon yellow polish, and we’re in love! It looks much softer and almost pastel in my photos because my camera took one look at this polish and said “LOL, no”. But this baby is highlighter yellow, you can get a more accurate depiction of the color [HERE]. I initially tried using 3 coats of Glowstick by itself but that was not working, it was a streak-fest. But once I layered 1 coat of it over 2 coats of Essie Blanc it was all gravy.
Melt Your Popsicle
Melt Your Popsicle is awesome. Neon orange is my kinda color. Fabulous! The formula was a pain in the ass though, hah! This is 3 coats over 2 coats of Essie Blanc. Not sure why I needed so many coats to get this to level out! Maybe I have a wonky formula? I’m almost wondering if I could get this polish to opaque in 3 coats without the white base since it’s so pigmented. I’ll have to try wearing this again and update you all.
Another thing that I love about this polish is how SUPER tan is makes my hands look! As soon as I put it on my fingers it made me look like I’d been sunbathing for days. I showed my boyfriend the difference in skintone this polish had between my polished hand and my unpolished one, and he though I’d performed so sort of illusionary witchcraft. Too much Diablo for him.
Melt Your Popsicle is going to be my go-to orange for the summer!
Beach Cruiser is a hot neon pink and another ‘instant tan’ color. I used 3 coats of Beach Cruiser by itself here, no base polish needed. The formula was nice. I foresee this one being on my toes at all times.
Skinny Dip is a pretty bright medium blue with a fine shimmer. Not really a neon, but I still love it! It was on the sheer side so I needed 3 coats to reach opacity. And like the other polishes shown above, this one dried with a satin matte finish so you’ll need a top coat to make these polishes nice and shiny.
I really love this set of minis and I’m happy I decided to pick it up! I can’t really name a favorite, I love them all! Neons can be tricky to work with but these were fairly easy to manage, save for the two where I needed a base polish. But with that being said I wouldn’t let that deter me for owning any single one of these. If you’re a fan of neon polishes the Orly Feel The Vibe Collection shouldn’t be missed! These suckers are black light reflective too!
The Orly Feel The Vibe Collection can be purchased from various E-Tailers (such as nailsupplies.us, Head2Toe Beauty, Transdesign, etc.). You can also purchase the collection from orlybeauty.com, online at Ulta.com or at Ulta stores nationwide. I’m sure Sally Beauty has it out as well! The prices vary depending on the retailer. ^_^
I’ve got The Amazing Spider-Man Collection by OPI to share with you fine people today. The collection is inspired by the upcoming summer movie with the same name, and it consists of 6 polish shades and one shatter effects polish. Let’s get right into it shall we?
I used Cult Nails Get It On and Wicked Fast base coat/top coat for my swatches today.
Just Spotted The Lizard
Peridot Just Spotted The Lizard is a green-gold duochrome beauty. And yes, you heard me right folks. This polish is a dupe for Chanel’s Peridot! I have a comparison post in the works for you all so keep an eye out for that popping up on the blog a little later this week. I used 3 coats here.
Number One Nemesis
Number One Nemesis is a gorgeous complex mix of dark olive green, grey, gold and silver in a metallic foil base. It was sheer, but built up to opacity after 3 thin coats. I love this one! I missed out on Chanel Graphite so this kills my lemming for it. It’s not a dupe, but it’s close enough for me not to care.
Here’s a macro shot for ya. *le swoon*
My Boyfriend Scales Walls
My Boyfriend Scales Walls is an off-white creme with grey undertones. I like this one, but I wish it was opaque in 2 coats instead of the 3 I had to use here. It might have been user error though. So I’ll say this is a 2-3 coat polish. I’m not really sure where it fits into the world of Spider-Man, but I’ll take OPI’s word for it since I’m not a big Marvel comic girl. I’m guessing from the color of his costume?
Shatter The Scales
Here’s 1 coat of Shatter The Scales over My Boyfriend Scales Walls. It’s a jelly-ish dark forest green with silver shimmer, very pretty. I forgot to take pictures with me holding the Shatter The Scales bottle. It was 4am, I was a little loopy and full of acetone fumes.
Macro shot here.
Into The Night
Your Web Or Mine?
Your Web Or Mine? is a rose pink colored frost that is not really my cup of tea. At all. Frost finishes are one of those things that I was happy to see go the way of the dodo bird in the 90s. Please stop bringing it back. No ♥, Rie.
2 coats of brush stroke grandma shade goodness. ಠ_ಠ
Call Me Gwen-Ever
Call Me Gwen-Ever is a muted tangerine creme. Now that’s more like it OPI! I love this color, but to be fair I honestly love EVERY orange that I come across. Applies like a dream, 2 coats of love here. ^_^
I have some serious mixed feelings about this collection. I thought that I was going to love every single one of these polishes from the pictures on the press release, and that just wasn’t the case. While I adore having less expensive alternatives for the Chanel polishes (Number One Nemesis and Just Spotted The Lizard are great!), I do wish that there were more unique polishes in this collection instead of what seemed like rehashes of things I’ve seen before. The only polishes that seemed new and interesting to me were Call Me Gwen-Ever and Shatter The Scales, and heaven knows that shatter/crackle polishes have been beaten into the ground at this point. And Your Web Or Mine? I rebuke that polish. I know some people enjoy frosts, so you’ll love that one. But it is just not at all for me.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2012 Collection by OPI retails for around $8.50 per .5 fl oz bottle of polish. They can be purchased at your local professional salons and spas nationwide. You an also purchase them at larger chain salons, including (but not limited to) JCPenny, Dillards, Regis, Pure Beauty, Trade Secret, and Ulta.

I apologize for my almost week-long absence. I’ve been a busy bee and just haven’t had time to swatch or really do anything blog related for a bit! Honestly the past week has been the first time in over a month where I haven’t had to work both my midnight shifts AND do the salon apprenticeship on the same day, so I took the time to just sit and do ABSOLUTELY. NOTHING.
I still had to work the salon on a few days but on my days where I was off from both I pretty much sat in my yoga pants and turned into a vegetable at home. I did some swatching on Tuesday but I still need to edit my pictures before I share them with you all in the following days. So in iPhone picture form I’ll do a brief recap on my Sunday-Thursday.
Oh yeah and this happened…
I may have played Diablo III after my boyfriend gave me a guest pass for the game Monday night. And then two days later I may have gone out and bought the game for myself. I’m hooked. Currently I have a lvl 16 wizard, and she just learned chain lightning. So iiisssh just got real. If anyone’s on Battle.net I’d love to add ya as a friend! My Battle.net ID is Nymeria#1125. ^_^
Chauncey thoroughly enjoyed watching my boyfriend play Diablo III on his laptop. Or he enjoyed the heat coming from the laptop. Whichever.
A Quick Instagram NOTD
As always, mixing the nerd with the nails I present to you a quick NOTD. Something I whipped up while I had some down time at the salon on Thursday. I started out with 2 coats of A England Dragon, one of my absolute favorite polishes from my favorite indie brand. ^_^ Then I stamped on the design with Barry M Gold Foil. My new favorite gold stamping polish that was sent to me by the ever amazing Joanne, thanks girl!
And just because, I’m throwing in a picture of my friend’s younger sister who’s visiting from downstate and came in to get her nails done on Wednesday. I brought in RBL Aqua Lily from home since I knew she would love the color and stamped over it with Barry M Silver Foil. I absolutely LOVE the way her nails turned out!
That’s it for today folks! None of this is really new if you follow me on Instagram, but I just didn’t want to go another day without letting you all know I’m still alive and haven’t abandoned you! I’ve got the OPI Amazing Spiderman and Minnie Mouse Collection swatches, as well as some comparisons to share with you all soon. Annnnnnd some swatches and a review of Orly’s Feel The Vibe Collection as well. Thank you all for your patience! ♥

I’ve got another fun indie brand to share with you all today. This time we’ll be looking at Aphrodite Lacquers SandBar Collection, which is a series of 6 summer ready jellies! You know how I feel about jellies, they’re close to my heart so I was super excited when Rebecca contacted me about these gems.
I used Cult Nails Get It On & Wicked Fast for my swatches today. But honestly all of these dried so fast and were so shiny and smooth without topcoat! Clicking the photos will bring you to the original sized… you know the drill.
Grapetini is a purple jelly polish with lavender glitter, light purple holo glitter, and tiny silver glitter/shimmer. 3 coats here, I really liked this one. It’s a smidge lighter in real life, my camera likes to spaz out with purples.
Mai Tai is GORGEOUS! Super sexy red jelly with red hex, holo and silver shimmer. 3 coats here, though a careful 2 coat would suffice.
I had a strange pigment deposit on my first attempt with this polish. You can see the little blotchy looking areas after one coat in the above picture. I just rolled the bottle more vigorously and my second try was issue free.
Ambrosia is one of the more sheer jellies in the bunch, but still pretty. It’s a light pink jelly polish with fuchsia glitter, holo glitter, and tiny silver glitter/shimmer. This was 4 coats. I’ll be layering this next time I wear it.
Blue Lagoon is another sheer one, again 4 coats and still a lot of VNL. This blue jelly polish is filled with aqua glitter, light blue holo glitter, and tiny silver glitter/shimmer. I can’t wait to layer this one over a dark blue!
Savin’ the best for last, this one is Margarita! A juicy green jelly with green hex, holo and silver shimmer. I looooooove this one! I used 3 coats to deepen the color, but 2 is perfectly fine and opaque as well.
I really liked all of these polishes, though hands down my favorite is definitely Margarita. A green jelly? HELLO! Blue Lagoon and Ambrosia were a little too sheer for me on their own but I’ll use them in my next layering experiment to see what I can come up with. ^_^
I had the pigment deposit happen to me a few times while applying, but since she’s starting to add a few metal beebees to each bottle in future batches I’m hoping that issue will resolve itself. And all of the polishes are indeed 3-Free.
You can purchase any of the polishes from the SandBar Collection from the Aphrodite Lacquers Etsy Shop for $8.00 per 15mL bottle of polish. Rebecca has swatches on the shop of all the polishes over other colors to give you an idea of the layering possibilities as well. You can check the feedback section for the colors that are out of stock right now. You can also follow the Facebook Fanpage for store updates. ^_^

I’m back again with another Spam-A-Thon Thursday. This time we’ll be looking at swatches from the Etsy seller, Enchanted Polish! This post is going to be hella long and picture heavy, so I apologize to those who have slower internet connections because there are a LOT of pictures here people.
And of course the day I want to swatch 8 million gorgeous holographic polishes is the day that we have rain from dusk till dawn, so I had to settle for indoor shots. Still pretty, but you really need to see these babies in the sun to fully appreciate them. Check out Jen’s post for some kick-ass natural sunlight photos! ^_^
I used Cult Nails Get It On Base Coat and Wicked Fast Top Coat for all my swatches today. I’ll show indoor lighting shots first, camera flash (aka “fake sunlight”) shots second, and macro shots last for each polish. Clicking on any picture will bring you to the original sized photo.
Swatches galore await ye beyond the page jump. Tally-HOOOooooooOOoooooo!
I don’t usually do these types of posts, but I figured why not give it a try? Mostly because I forgot to edit the photos of the manicure that I planned on posting for today, haha! Also, I think it’d be fun to give these award/questionnaire posts a try. So here it goes!
The Versatile Blogger Award
A thank you goes out to Kelly of Nailpocalypse for nominating me for this award. Check her blog out, her nail art is FAB and her cat is wearing a neck tie. Need I say more?
Here are the rules:
- Thank the person who nominated me and give them a shout out
- State 7 random facts about yourself
Pass on the award to 10-15 bloggers(skipping this part because I’m being lazy )
- Post the award pic to your blog
Seven random facts about me:
- I can cross one eye. For the longest time I thought I was crossing both eyes until a friend pointed out that only one was crossed. Which is 10x cooler.
- My name is really Marie Antoinette, but almost everyone calls me Rie (a nickname that has stuck since I was a toddler). My mom is a bit of a history buff. ^_^
- I am a HUGE true crime buff and have been for over a decade. I find reading cases on Crime Library and watching endless shows on Investigation Discovery to be utterly fascinating. I regularly have mega polish swatching sessions while watching marathons of Deadly Women or Unusual Suspects on the ID Channel. My boyfriend thinks I’m a creeper.
- My favorite movies as a little girl were Firestarter and Jaws. I’ve pretty much been a horror movie fan 4-Lyfe.
- I have 4 tattoos so far: a traditional owl/skull on my left lower calf, a lotus flower on my back, a shoulder-to-shoulder chest piece with characters from one of my favorite comics by Roman Dirge – Lenore and Mr. Gosh, and a GIGANTIC side piece that spans from my knee up to my ribcage of a phoenix. I love them all and want more! ♥
- I love juice. A LOT. I can down a gallon of juice in less than 30 minutes. It’s kinda scary how much I love juice. I especially love orange juice. Don’t get between me and my juice, son!
- I have two nails on my right thumb. I smashed it in a car door when I was a kid and the nail broke off halfway, then a new nail grew over that one and the two fused together. You can’t tell when they’re painted but when I have naked nails you can plainly see that the lunula on that nail is split in half and fused.
11 Questions Tag
I was tagged for this one by my fellow nerd Sarah of Samarium’s Swatches. Thanks girl! I have to answer 11 questions that she created for all the people she tagged, so here it goes!
1. If you could have one superpower/”gift” what would it be and why?
I think I would like the ability to turn grains of rice into legitimate currency. Then I could take care of all my student debt, buy a house and car for all my friends and family, and never have to worry about money again. Oh buy ALLLLL of the nail polish! Muahahahahaaaaaaaaa…. *cough*
2. If you had to have the same polish on for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
Oh geez, hit me with a hard question here. If I had to wear one polish for the rest of my life I think it’d be China Glaze’s Wagon Trail. Or RBL’s IKB:2012… Or Nfu Oh #51… Ugh, please don’t make me choose!!
3. What is your all time favorite book or Author?
This changes often, but currently my favorite author is George R. R. Martin, the writer for the A Song of Ice and Fire epic fantasy series. I’m currently on book five (A Dance With Dragons) and I don’t know what I’m going to do with my time once I finish it and I have to wait for the last two books of the series to be created.
I think I want to change my super power to willing GRRM to finish the series faster.
4. If you could choose to change anything about yourself, whether it be physical or just to better yourself as a person, what would you change?
I wish I was more organized and less forgetful. I have 8374.6 plans but about 8370.1 of them slip my mind before I can follow through!
5. If you had to live in a movie, tv show or video game which would you choose to exist in!?
While my favorite video game series ever is Silent Hill, that is NOT a world I would want to live in. Yeesh. I think I’d like to live in the Sims 3 world (with all the expansion packs). But only if I had a cooking skill of 6 or higher.
6. What do you feel is the best quality you possess?
I believe that my ability to persevere over extreme obstacles is my best quality. Life isn’t easy and I’ve been through some trials and tribulations, but I always bounce back strong.
7. How would you spend your last day on earth if you knew when that day was?
I would spend the day surrounded my the people I love, and weep over all the nail polish I’d never be able to wear again.
8. If you had a chance to meet anybody (alive or dead) who would you meet?
9. What is your favorite dessert?
Ooooooh shiiiiiit.. Um, I love desert of any kind except for chocolate. I hate chocolate. Anyway, I think if I had to name a favorite it would be cheesecake of any kind. Well, any kind but chocolate. Chocolate can basically GTFO. Exception is made for the chocolate Joanne sent me from Blackpool, because it’s delicious!
I also love my grandma’s 7-Up cake and peach cobbler. SO good!
10. What is your all time fav band?
If I had to name a favorite band it would definitely be Death Cab For Cutie. I discovered them in 2005-2006 and never looked back. I love them so much and it’s my life dream to be able to see them play live some day. ^_^
11. Do you have a weird quirk, or something a little strange that you do? What is it!? (lol I twitch, and snort haha)
I hiccup. Several times a day, throughout the entire day. I think I get a ‘regular’ case of hiccups where I have to hold my breath to make them stop only about 3-4 times a year. Otherwise I’ll have one or two hiccups in a row and that’s it for the hour. Wash, rinse, repeat. I’ve had these random hiccups since I was 12. When I’m stressed or nervous I hiccup more.
That’s it for today, I hope you enjoyed learning some strange things about my little world. ^_^
I’m not going to tag anyone, but if anyone wants to answer these questions or list 7 facts about yourselves in comments I’d love to read them!
