31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 12 – Stripes!!

8

Morning Everyone!

We’re at Day 12 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012, and today’s prompt is stripes! I decided to keep it simple today and busted out my first set of MASH nail plates for this one. ^_^

31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 12 – Stripes!

31DC2012 Day 12 - Stripes 2
31DC2012 Day 12 - Stripes 3
31DC2012 Day 12 - Stripes 4
I think this one turned out kinda Halloween-ish, don’t cha think? ;) I used A England Beauty Never Fails and the New Holy Grail with my mash-10 stamp. Pictures don’t do this manicure justice, it’s absolutely gorgeous in person! I plan on swatching these two beauties individually in the near future. :D

Short and sweet post for today folks, I hope you enjoyed it! Don’t forget to check out Sam and Cris on their blogs to see what they’ve come up for their striped looks!

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 11 – Polka Dot Nails!!

15

Evening Everyone!

I’m apologize for how late my polka dot nails post is for the 31 Day Challenge 2012 that I’m doing with Sam and Cris today. I ran out of time to do my nails yesterday before heading out for the night, and this morning I was just a smidge headachey from too many adult beverages. I’ll share a few pictures from my Halloweekend at the end of this post. :-D

31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 11 – Interlocking Polka Dots!

31DC1012 Day 11 Polka Dots - 1
31DC1012 Day 11 Polka Dots - 2
Ever since I saw Slacquerr do these interlocking dots I have been obsessed with them! It’s such a fun way to do polka dot nails and the possibilities are endless! This particular design originated at Nail Polish Wars who also has a great tutorial on her blog. ^_^

31DC1012 Day 11 Polka Dots - 3
31DC1012 Day 11 Polka Dots - 4
31DC1012 Day 11 Polka Dots - 5
I used Rescue Beauty Lounge Abi and Santa Fe with dotting tools. I was going for a Fall look but it kinda reminds me of the colors for Nickelodeon, haha!

Halloweeeeeen!!

Finn and Princess Bubblegum - nailsandnoms
And here’s the boyfriend and I as Finn the Human and Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time!! I’m really happy with how our costumes turned out this year. Didn’t win any costume contests but we still had a lot of fun. A few people even recognized who we were supposed to be, hehe. :-P

Yes, that is a Game of Thrones poster and a STFU cross-stitch on the wall behind us. My roomies and I are a bunch-o-nerds. :-D
Princess Bubblegum - nailsandnoms
A better photo so you can all see my awesome strawberry milk pink wig, complete with and Abby photo-bomb. ;) I can’t believe I only spent $13 for it on eBay!!
Finn and Waluigi - nailsandnoms
One more of the boyfriend and our friend Mark who was dressed as Waluigi. ^_^

That’s it for today! I promise my next post for the challenge will be on time, hah! :-P Don’t forget to check out  Sam and Cris’s blogs to see their Day 11 polka dot nails too!

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 10 – Gradient Nails!!

9

Morning!

Today is Day 10 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012, and the prompt is gradient nails! I ended up doing two looks today because I wasn’t completely satisfied with the first one. I’m gonna keep this short and sweet because I’m off to see Silent Hill Revelation in 3D with my boyfriend and my pal Sarah! I loooooove the games and I’m pretty curious to see how this second movie compares to the first movie and how closely it relates to the game it’s based on, Silent Hill 3. :-D

31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 10 – Gradient Nails!

31DC2012 Day 10 - Gradient 1
31DC2012 Day 10 - Gradient 2
31DC2012 Day 10 - Gradient 3
I took my inspiration for both of these manicures from my Pinterest boards. Whoever pinned this one didn’t link it properly so I unfortunately don’t know where the original idea came from. :-( If anyone can point me to the creator of this mani, let me know!

I’m not super happy with my results on this one. The sponges I bought for my gradients were too squishy and not the same ones I’d bought last time. I think I still need to learn how to make them work best for me. -_-

Nail Polishes Used:
OPI Jade Is The New Black
A England Camelot
31DC2012 Day 10 - Gradient 4
31DC2012 Day 10 - Gradient 5
31DC2012 Day 10 - Gradient 6
This second look comes from the amazing Madeline Poole! My attempt is nowhere near as gorgeous as hers but I tried! ^_^

Nail Polishes I Used:
Essie Penny Talk
OPI Kiss Me On My Tulips
A England Camelot

Well that’s all she wrote for today everyone! Tomorrow we’re back with polka dot nails! Don’t forget to check out  Sam and Cris’s blogs to see their Day 10 gradient nails too.

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 9 – Rainbow Nails!!

15

Morning Everyone!

I hope you’re all having a great week so far! I have one more night of work and then I have the rest of October off! I’m excited to have a mini break and just become a vegetable at home. And perhaps venture out a time or two for Halloween festivities! For those that celebrate, any of you have fun plans for the extended Halloweekend? And what are your costume plans?! I love hearing about what other people are going to do for the holiday. ^_^

Also I wanted to thank everyone that voted for my Bundle Monster Fright Night contest entry, BECAUSE I MADE IT AS ONE OF THE 13 FINALISTS!! :-D You can see the other finalists [HERE]. The guest judges are picking the winners some time today, and even if I don’t place I’m still happy to have made it as far as I did because there were some amazing entries for the contest. :-P

Today is Day 9 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012, and the prompt is rainbow nails. I don’t know why, but this is my least favorite prompt of the entire challenge (swiftly followed by ‘Inspired by a Color”, I’m still wtf-ing at that one). Last year I did Nyan Cat (which I loved, even though my cat looked a little… off) but this year I was just so uninspired. I did eventually figure something out so without further ado…

31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 9 – Rainbow Nails!

31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 1
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 2
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 3
I called myself trying to keep things “simple” with a rainbow skittle manicure. I wanted to do the Fishtail Braid as an accent nail because I figured that doing it on just one nail would save time. Too bad this still took me THREE FRICKIN’ HOURS with having to wait between coats to dry… :-( Even 12 hours later my stupid ring finger is still dentable. I love the look of Fishtail Braid manicures, and this one turned out better than my last attempt… But I doubt I will ever do this ish again unless I’m using quick dry nail polishes. :-P

Nail Polishes I Used:
Dermelect Head Turner (pointer finger)
Sally Hansen Lightening
(thumb and ring finger)
OPI Red Lights Ahead… Where?
(middle and ring finger)
Color Club Insta-This
(pinky and ring finger)
OPI A Roll In The Hague
(ring finger)
Rescue Beauty Lounge Mismas
(ring finger)
Essie Pretty Edgy
(ring finger)
China Glaze Wireless Holographic Top Coat

31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 4
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 5
I’m glad I decided to add the holographic top coat because I really think it ties everything together nicely. For the fishtail braid accent nail I just carefully free-handed the lines because I am just entirely too impatient for tape manicures. I always end up peeling off half my nail polish in the process. :-P
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 6
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 7
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 8
And a few more shots with my rarely seen thumb. My nails are getting pretty long again, eh? I think I’ll keep them long-ish at least to the end of the challenge since it gives me a better work space for nail art. ^_^

I’m almost tempted to grow them super long and shape them into stilettos just for shiggles before I file them down after the challenge is done. 8O

Well that’s all she wrote for today everyone! The next challenge day is this Saturday and it’s gradient nails! I cannot wait to show you what I have in store for that day! ^_^

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 8 – Metallic Nails!!

33

Morning!

Sorry for the late start you guys! My friend Sarah, my boyfriend and I made sooooo much good food last night. We had my beef tips with rice and pan gravy, which is my boyfriends’s favorite thing that I make. ANNnnnnd acorn squash fritters (recipe coming soon!!).

*drools*

And I may have had a pretty potent adult beverage with FRICKEN’ PUMPKIN PIE FLAVORED VODKA!!! :-D This combination of awesome-sauce made me a weeeee bit sleepy. And I may have passed out before doing my Day 8 metallic nails for the 31 Day Challenge 2012. Oopsies! ;)

31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 8 Metallic Nails – Splatter Style!

31DC2012 Day 8 Metallic Nails
31DC2012 Day 8 Metallic Nails
31DC2012 Day 8 Metallic Nails
31DC2012 Day 8 Metallic Nails
So what kind of manicure can I do that takes a short amount of time, but with awesome results? A splatter mani, that’s what!! :-D I don’t think I’ve done one of these since the first one I did last year during the challenge, but I always love the end results. ^_^

Nail Polishes I Used:
A England Camelot
Barry M Gold Foil Effects
Barry M Silver Foil Effects
Essie Penny Talk

I topped everything off with a coat of Gelous and China Glaze Fast Forward top coat. Then I added Butter London Matte Finish top coat. I absolutely looove how this looks mattified! ^_^

Here’s a few photos of it before I added the matte top coat. I love it this way too!
31DC2012 Day 8 Metallic Nails
31DC2012 Day 8 Metallic Nails
There’s a reason why I rarely do splatter manicures, they are messy as @*%#!! :-P Even though I taped around my fingers I still had a heck of a cleanup job to deal with to get all of the nail polish out of my cuticles. The things we do for glorious nails, hehe. -_-
31DC2012 Day 8 Metallic Nails
And here’s a snapshot of my “canvas”. It looks like King Midas has an upper respiratory infection. ;)

That’s it for today everyone! The Guild Wars 2 Shadow of the Mad King Halloween Event started yesterday so that’s where you’ll find me today! Oh, and swatching the OPI Skyfall collection if I can drag myself away from my desktop. ;)

Don’t forget to check out  Sam and Cris’s blogs to see their Day 8 metallic nails (though I think Cris is running late like me today, haha)!

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 7 – Black and White Nails!!

29

Good Morning Everyone!

SamCris and I are back again with Day 7 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 with our black & white nails! I honestly had no clue what I was going to do for this prompt until the last possible minute. And even then I ended up doing it over again… And then doing something over my second attempt! What can I say, insomnia apparently breeds indecisiveness. ;)

31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 7 Black & White Nails – Dry Brush Flames!!

31DC2012 Day 7 - Black & White Nails 1
31DC2012 Day 7 - Black & White Nails 2
31DC2012 Day 7 - Black & White Nails 3
31DC2012 Day 7 - Black & White Nails 4
This was the one where my perfectionist issues came into place. I swear I did this mani over about 4 times before I was semi-happy with it. And even still I think it could have been better. :P

I used Neverland Nail Blog’s Dry Brush Nail Art Tutorial. I think I just need to do it more and experiment with colors because I like the end result, or at least how it looked on her blog. :)

Polishes I Used:
Milani White On The Spot
Rescue Beauty Lounge Stormy
A England Camelot

Then I decided that it wasn’t enough, that I wasn’t completely satisfied with it. So I decided to stamp over it with the reverse sequence of colors…

31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 7 Black & White Nails – Stamped Gradient

31DC2012 Day 7 - Black & White Nails 8
31DC2012 Day 7 - Black & White Nails 11
31DC2012 Day 7 - Black & White Nails 9
Ahhhhh, now that’s more like it! I love the swirlies in this stamp and the reverse gradient effect with the dry brush flame background! I was worried that it would look too busy but it works out somehow. I kinda want to see what it looks like mattified now!
31DC2012 Day 7 - Black & White Nails 6
31DC2012 Day 7 - Black & White Nails 12
31DC2012 Day 7 - Black & White Nails 10
I ended up using Milani White On The Spot and A England Camelot with the MASH-49 stamp. ^_^

Well that’s it for today! I’m hoping that I’ll feel a bit more prepared and inspired for Day 8 on Tuesday! :-D

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 6 – Violet Nails!!

25

Morning Everyone!

Sam, Cris and I are back again with Day 6 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 with our violet nails! This is actually the manicure I wore for my birthday this past Sunday and I loved it soooo much! Less talkie, more polish…ie? :-P

31 Day Challenge 2012 – Day 6 Violet ‘Equalizer’ Nails!!

31DC2012 Day 6 Violet Nails - 6
31DC2012 Day 6 Violet Nails - 1
31DC2012 Day 6 Violet Nails - 2
31DC2012 Day 6 Violet Nails - 3
How effin’ amazing are these, right?! Hahaha, I don’t mean to toot my own horn here but I am SOOOO thrilled with how these turned out! Did I mention that already? ;) I first saw this manicure done by @imichelley on Instagram. Her IG is private but somehow I was still able to pin the link to her mani to my Pinterest board so you can see it [HERE] (yay technology!).

I started off with 1 coat of Rescue Beauty Lounge 360, a gorgeous aqua teal blue with a subtle silver shimmer. Then I carefully added 1 coat of Rescue Beauty Lounge Mismas (a deep purple creme) over half of each nail, because I didn’t feel like effing around with tape that day. :-P

31DC2012 Day 6 Violet Nails - 4
31DC2012 Day 6 Violet Nails - 5
31DC2012 Day 6 Violet Nails - 7
31DC2012 Day 6 Violet Nails - 8

After both of those polishes had a little time to dry, I added short frenetic black lines down the center of each nail in varying lengths with a black nail art pen. Then I went back over the black area with my Sinful Colors Time Off polish (it’s the fine-tipped nail art polish version of their Black on Black).  I think it looks like an equalizer bar on a sound system, hence my nickname for the manicure. ^_^

I loved how it looked plain, but I realllly had been wanting to play with my Enchanted Polish Secret Sauce so I added that too before I finished everything off with top coat. Secret Sauce changes its appearance depending on what its layered over and it has multi-chromatic shimmer. I love it! You can’t see it on my nails here, but depending on the lighting the shimmer went from red, to golden, to green! :-D
31DC2012 Day 6 Violet Nails - 9 (no tc)
And here’s a photo of my mani before I added Secret Sauce and my top coat. Still gorgeous on its own but damn it, I wanted some ~*~sparkle~*~ for my birthday. ;)

So what do you all think of this bad-ass mani?! I certainly love it and I want to do Equalizer nails with ALLLL the colors now!

For those with grabby hands: RBL 360 and Mismas can be purchased at rescuebeauty.com, and Enchanted Polish is available through Llarowe or Harlow & Co (though it’s currently sold out on both sites). ^_^

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 5 – Blue Nails!!

21

Morning Lovelies!!

Sam, Cris and I are back again with Day 5 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 with our blue nails! Blue is one of my absolute favorite colors, and I knew exactly what I wanted to wear from the start of the challenge for this day. ^_^

I’ve been a huge fan of Pretty and Polished for quite some time, and I’ve been following her P&P Zodiac collection (a new one is released with each new Zodiac sign monthly I believe) for a few months. I knew that as soon as she released her Libra themed nail polish that I would HAVE to buy it no matter what. And I happened to luck out once Libra Scales was announced, because it is BEAUTIFUL! :-D

31 Day Challenge 2012 – Blue Nails with Libra Scales!!

31DC2012 Day 5 Blue Nails - 1
31DC2012 Day 5 Blue Nails - 3
How phucken gorgeous is this nail polish?!?! :-D Libra Scales is a deep blue jelly that’s filled with blue glitter, shimmer, flakies, etc. You name it, it’s probably in there! I started off with 3 thin coats of Orly Royal Navy as my base color, which is my new favorite blue jelly polish to use as a base. It has just a hint of subtle silver shimmer and the formula is perfection!
31DC2012 Day 5 Blue Nails - 2
31DC2012 Day 5 Blue Nails - 4
After I let Royal Navy dry for a few minutes, I then topped it off with just a single coat of Pretty & Polished Libra Scales. The coverage is amazing! And then I decided that something was missing still… MATTE TOP COAT! :-D

Pretty & Polished Libra Scales – Mattified

31DC2012 Day 5 Blue Nails - 5 Matte
31DC2012 Day 5 Blue Nails - 6 Matte
31DC2012 Day 5 Blue Nails - 7 Matte
Libra Scales is gorgeous on its own, and I honestly don’t know whether I like it better shiny or with matte top coat! I used Essie Matte About You top coat here. I adore the frosted over look with the glitter chunks suspended in the jelly finish. *le swoon*
31DC2012 Day 5 Blue Nails - 8 Matte
31DC2012 Day 5 Blue Nails - 9 Matte
I ended up leaving my fingers matte, and I did the exact same manicure with shiny top coat on my toes. It’s rare that my fingers match my toes but I loved this polish that much!

Orly – Royal Navy

31DC2012 Day 5 Blue Nails - ORLY Royal Navy
And just for shiggles, here’s a photo of Orly Royal Navy on its own. You can see the silver shimmer best on my pointer and ring fingers. It’s incredibly subtle but gorgeous. ^_^

Dassit for today folks! I hope you loved this as much as I do! I almost feel like I’m gonna need a backup bottle for Libra Scales AND Royal Navy, I love these nail polishes that much. ♥

If you’re looking to get your hands on Libra Scales or any of the other polishes from the Zodiac collection it is an exclusive to the Pretty & Polished Etsy Shop. ^_^

Review: New Fall 2012 Takko Lacquer Collection!!

23

New Takko Lacquer Fall 2012 Collection

Morning Lovelies!

I hope you’re all having a great Wednesday! I’m pretty pumped because American Horror Story (wiki|FX site) is having their season 2 premier tonight!! Sadly I have to work so I’ll miss most of it but I have my DVR set. Did anyone else see the season 3 premier of The Walking Dead (wiki|AMC site) this past Sunday? HOLY CRAP. 8O I’m a HUGE fan of the graphic novel series and I was pretty displeased with season 2 (aka, the longest farm visit ever and how hard is it to keep an eye on Carl?!), but this first episode of season 3 definitely made up for it. :-D

Today I’m also excited to be able to share the new Takko Lacquer collection with you!! Sheryl blew me away with her last collection from this summer so when she contacted me with news of her four new pretties I was already getting excited before I even knew what they looked like! Then she posted her inspiration boards on her blog and I just about died. :-P

Well these pretties showed up at my home on Monday and I had to… HAAADDD TO swatch them right away. This is a VERY picture heavy post so I’ll be putting the images behind a cut today. I’m going to show you everything on its own AND also layered over black because…. oh man, they’re glorious! Let’s get right into it, shall we?

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 4 – Green Nails!!

9

Morning Everyone!!

Today I’m back with Sam and Cris for Day 4 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 with our green nails! I woke up way too early today and I’m struggling to stay awake here so this post shall be short and sweet. ;-)

31 Day Challenge 2012 – Green Nails!

31DC2012 Day 4 Green Nails - 1
31DC2012 Day 4 Green Nails - 2
I started off with 2 coats of Essie Mojito Madness, a wonderful green creme. Oh how I love what Essie does with creme finish polishes. ^_^ Then I used my A48 stamp yet again with Enchanted Polish Mean Mr. Mustard.
31DC2012 Day 4 Green Nails - 4
31DC2012 Day 4 Green Nails - 6
31DC2012 Day 4 Green Nails - 5
This look is subtle but pretty! The stamp reminds me of a city skyline. :-)
31DC2012 Day 4 Green Nails - 7
31DC2012 Day 4 Green Nails - 8
And two macro shots because I couldn’t decide which one I liked the most. :-P

That’s it for Day 4! I’ll be back on Thursday with my Day 5 nails! And tomorrow I’ll have my new Takko Lacquer collection swatches! :-D

Don’t forget to check out  Sam and Cris’s blogs to see their Day 4 nails!
