31 Day Challenge: Day 22 – Inspired By A Song (Gangnam Style Nails)!

21

Hey Everyone!

OOooooh man. This is hands down my favorite day of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 so far! Today’s theme for Day 22 is ‘Inspired By A Song’, and this was another day where I knew exactly what I wanted to do from the beginning of the challenge. There’s a million pictures so let’s just get straight to it! :-D

Oppa Gangnam Nails!

Hahahaaa! I am so so SO happy with how these turned out! I was first introduced to this song by the K-Pop artist Psy by my boyfriend back in the beginning of August. I laughed so friggin hard that I was in tears. This song is infections, and the accompanying music video is absolutely hilarious! I joked around for a while about doing Gangnam nails, so once I decided to do this challenge with Sam and Cris my day 22 nails were a no brainer. :-D

If you somehow have been living under a rock and haven’t heard the song or seen the music video for Gangnam Style, I’ve included it at the bottom of this post. :P

The scene in the music video where Psy and the dancers are covered in white debris always cracks me up. So I’m happy that I was able to recreate that with mah nails. Excuse the awkward hang pose but it’s hard to get my thumb and pointer finger to cooperate. ;)

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 21 – Inspired By A Color

3

Hey Everyone!

Welcome to another day of the 31 Day Challenge 2012! Today’s theme for Day 21 is ‘Inspired By A Color’, which is such a vague theme. I mean… The entire first week of the challenge was inspired by color, don’t ya think? ;) I didn’t really know what direction I wanted to go in with this one so I just did a skittle mani. That’s inspired by several colors, right? :-D

31DC2012 Day 21 - Inspired by Color 2
31DC2012 Day 21 - Inspired by Color 1
I’ve been meaning to play with several of my new glitter polishes that I got last month, so here they are! Let’s see if I remember the names of everything because I’m awesome and didn’t write anything down when I wore this last week. :-D
31DC2012 Day 21 - Inspired by Color 4
Smitten Polish ERMAHGERD, CANDY CORMS. I really… REALLY hate the whole “Ermahgerd” meme so the name of this one drives me up the wall. It was funny at first but it’s seriously been beaten into the ground. -_- But the polish itself is pretty! It was a bit of a pain to work with, goopy/thick but worth the headache. I think if I add thinner it might help.
31DC2012 Day 21 - Inspired by Color 5
This is Accessorize Nail Speckle Bumble Bee. I layered it over OPI Hi, Pumpkin!. This one was a gift to me from my pal Esther in the UK. Thanks lady! :-D
31DC2012 Day 21 - Inspired by Color 6
This is Whimsical Ideas by Pam Wicked! I fell in love with this one after seeing Jen’s swatches. ^_^ I layered it over…. I think Essie Mojito Madness, but I honestly can’t remember anymore.
31DC2012 Day 21 - Inspired by Color 7
This is the other Accessorize Nail Speckle polish that Esther sent me for my birthday. It’s called Butterfly, I layered this one over a white creme. :)
31DC2012 Day 21 - Inspired by Color 8
I think this was my favorite combination! This is OPI Candlelight with 1 coat of Cagedbird Nail Lacquer Hallowishes layered over it. I loooove the combination of the orange, purple and star glitter. I didn’t even have to fish around for the stars, it had perfect application! ^_^

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 20 – Water Marble Nails!!

8

Hey Everyone!

I’m back with the most dreaded day of the 31 Day Challenge 2012, Water Marble Day!! Water Marbling is a world of fun and delight for some nail art enthusiasts, and the bane of human existence for others. I think I fall somewhere in between the two extremes haha! I for the life of me cannot consistently produce the same design for each nail so my water marbles always turn out a bit more abstract, and I’m totally fine with that! :)

I wanted to produce something fall themed since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and I think I was successful. ^_^

31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 20 – Water Marble Nails!

31DC2012 Day 20 Water Marble 6 31DC2012 Day 20 Water Marble 2
31DC2012 Day 20 Water Marble 1
This is the first time I used mostly dark colors for a water marble. I was worried that it would turn out muddy, but I actually like how dark and subtle some of the nails turned out! I’m still working on where exactly to place my damn fingers in the water to get the best pattern, but this is only my 3rd water marble ever and there’s certainly a learning curve to contend with here. :P

I started off with Takko Lacquer’s The Electric Apple: NYC as my base. Then I haphazardly used the following polishes in my marbling. ;)

Polished Used:
OPI Live And Let Die
OPI Casino Royale
Essie Miss Fancy Pants
Takko Lacquer Kiss The Sky
Color Club Insta-This

I love the subtle shimmer spread out in each nail from Kiss The Sky and Live And Let Die. I actually re-dipped my ring finger because I wasn’t happy with the original design. Can you tell? ^_^

31DC2012 Day 20 Water Marble 3
31DC2012 Day 20 Water Marble 4
31DC2012 Day 20 Water Marble 5
And of course out of ten fingers, my thumb (the one I did last) would come out with the best marble pattern. :-P But honestly I think my pinky finger is my favorite. The swirling reminds me of a purple, grey, and green version of the clouds from The Scream by Edvard Munch. :D

I’d also like to mention that of all the days for me to run out of scotch tape to protect my skin from nail polish armageddon, water marble day is probably the worst. I had enough tape left on my roll as I started this process to cover exactly two of my fingers! 8O I vaguely remembered reading somewhere on the internet that a person had used Aquaphor to serve as a barrier between their skin and the nail polish while doing a water marble. Since I had nothing to lose, I tried it out and it worked! I slathered the Aquaphor on my fingers up to my knuckles on each finger, making sure I carefully covered the skin around my cuticles without getting any on my nail beds. And then when it was time to clean the polish off, all I had to do was wipe it away with a Q-Tip! I didn’t even have issues with nail polish pooling in my cuticles like I usually do when I water marble. I’m never using tape for a water marble again! :-D

That’s it for today! What do you think about water marbling? Love it or hate it? Love seeing others do it but think it’s too hard to try for yourself? Which nail from my water marble is your favorite?

Don’t forget to check out Sam and Cris today for their water marble nail looks! :D

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 19 – Galaxy Drip Nails!

7

Hey Everyone!

I’m back again with Sam and Cris today for Day 19 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012! I’m back with another well-intentioned, but poorly executed, nail art day. I am really striking out this weekend, blargh. I’ve been wanting to try these Galaxy Drip Nails from Coewless for ages and I had them planned for Day 19 of the challenge from the start. And I’m sure these would have turned out much better if I didn’t have to try to rush to get them done before my midnight shift last night. I seriously almost cried when I was done with these because I absolutely hated them and didn’t have time to redo them. :?

I contemplated not posting at all today, or just redoing them after I got home from work in the morning and making this an afternoon post. But my stomach is seriously still in knots (I might have food poisoning?!?) and I just want to go to bed when I get home at 8am. :( But let me stop playing the world’s tiniest violin for myself and get on with the show here…

31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 19 – (Sketchy) Galaxy Drip Nails!

31DC2012 Day 19 Galaxy 1
31DC2012 Day 19 Galaxy 2
See… My accent nail and my pinky came out exactly how I wanted them to. The other nails? Errr, not-so-much. :-P

Everything was going fine and well until I had to do cleanup around my drips. My white nail polish was just not opaque enough. And then I tried to use my white acrylic polish from Born Pretty that I got last year during my previous 31 Day Challenge and it was a gooey, tacky, stringy effing mess. My roomie saved the day by loaning me her white acrylic paint but at that point it was almost time for me to go to work and my hand got shaky on my last three nails. At that point I was just stressed, irritated with myself and just wanted to take the photos I needed and get it over with. Bah. Humbug. ;)

Polishes I Used

A LOT.

That’s it for today! I’m trying to tell myself that this was just my first attempt, and that the next time I try this I know it will turn out better. I’m determined to master this technique because it just looks so damn awesome! ^_^

Don’t forget to check out Sam and Cris today for their galaxy nail looks, because I’m sure they did much better than me. :D

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 18 – Half Moon Nails!

3

Hey Everyone!

I’m back again with Sam and Cris today for Day 18 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012! I wanted to do something a little different from your typical Half Moon mani, so I attempted Peter Pan Collar nails for the first time. BIG FLOP. :(

I was a bit rushed on these (trying to get them done before work) so I’m not entirely happy with how they turned out. Ah well, I can’t hit every ball out of the park, eh? :-P

31DC2012 Day 18 - Half Moon 1
31DC2012 Day 18 - Half Moon 2
31DC2012 Day 18 - Half Moon 3
NAILED IT. I started with A England Camelot as my base polish. Then I used a white nail art polish for the shitty collars, and finished it off with the gold microbeads. I’d like to try this look again when I have more time to take my time and get it perfect. ^_^

That’s it for today! I know these could have turned out a lot worse, but I’m bummed that I didn’t have something to really wow you guys today. There’s always Sunday! :-D

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 17 – Glitter With Fanchromatic Nails!

8

Hey Everyone!

And guess who forgot to post on Thursday? This girl!!! :P Better late than never, here’s my Day 17 glitter nails for the 31 Day Challenge 2012 I’m doing with Sam and Cris.

I have been meaning to swatch and review my pretties from Fanchromatic Nails for way too long so let’s kill to birds with one stone. Day 18 will be at it’s regularly scheduled time at 6am EST. ;)

Lynae, the creator of Fanchromatic Nails, is woman after my own nerdy/geeky little heart and she bases her polishes off a wide variety of fandoms. And you know me, if it’s based off of a tv show, game, book/comic or movie I love then I’m all for it! Lynae was kind enough to provide me with some of her polishes to review so let’s get to it! :-D

31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 17 – Glitter With Fanchromatic Nails

Fanchromatic - Heart Of Gold 1
Fanchromatic - Heart Of Gold 2
Fanchromatic - Heart Of Gold 3
Lynae describes Heart Of Gold as “a very noble, exotic, yet dusty shade of purple, with a beautiful green sparkle. It includes different shades of green, grey, gold, purple, and copper glitter, many of them holographic.” This one was inspired by an episode of Firefly and a hooker with a ‘heart of gold’. I am a HUGE Firefly fan, and this particular episode was one of my favorites. “Say goodbye to your daddy, Jonah…” :-D

Heart Of Gold is fairly sheer, but built up nicely after 3 coats. I however didn’t wait long enough for it to dry before I added my Glitter Tamer and Seche Vite top coat and dragged the polish a little bit. You can see it especially badly on my ring finger, whoops. :?
Fanchromatic - She Is Confused 1
Fanchromatic - She Is Confused 2
Fanchromatic - She Is Confused 3
She Is Confused is a fun periwinkle blue glitter party with a jelly base, haha! It’s pretty sheer, I used 4 coats here and you can still see a bit of VNL. I’ll definitely be layering this one next time. Anyone know of a good periwinkle blue creme polish that they can recommend to me? :-D This one is inspired by Ezri Dax from Star Trek. I am a bad geek and I know absolutely nothing about Star Trek, but I like this polish because it reminds me of blue funfetti! I have a random little piece of bar glitter on my ring finger, I wish there was more!
Fanchromatic - The Man In The Moon 1
Fanchromatic - The Man In The Moon 2
Fanchromatic - The Man In The Moon 3
The Man in the Moon is “a white jelly polish with silver and pale blue glitter in different sizes, filled with a beautiful, soft golden-white flakie shimmer.” This was my absolute favorite of the three that I tried! This is 4 thin coats, but again I think this one is best suited for layering with an opaque (or jelly…) white polish. It’s like winter in a bottle! Lynae based this one off of the long canceled show Carnival, which I’ve heard was amazing and I have yet to watch it. C’mon Netflix, add it to streaming already! ;)

Final Thoughts:

Overall I enjoyed all three of these nail polishes! All three had great formulas that were easy to work with. I didn’t have to do any fishing to make the glitter evenly distribute on my nails, and all three are unique to my collection. And when you have over 1,000 polishes in your collection that’s quite a feat! ;)

The texture on all three was pretty smooth before I added top coat. I’m not sure if the Glitter Tamer was necessary but I usually add it to all my glitter polishes before top coat because I prefer a glass smooth finish. ^_^

Purchase Info:

You can purchase any of these polishes featured today and more at the Fanchromatic Nails Etsy Shop. Retail price ranges from $4.25-5.00 for 5mL mini bottles and $8.25-10.75 for 15mL full sized bottles. I first saw this look created by Supa Nails and I fell in love. I pinned her Zulu Pop nails to my Pinterest ‘nails to try’ board and then promptly forgot about it, haha. When I was trying to think about what to do for today these popped back into my brain and it was a wrap. :-D
31DC2012 Day 16 Tribal Print 4
31DC2012 Day 16 Tribal Print 5
I used China Glaze Orange Knockout (Neon) as my base, it’s one of my favorite oranges and it’s BRIGHT! I then free-handed the rest with black and white nail art pens, Milani White On The Spot, Sally Hansen Lightening and Essie Lapis Of Luxury.

What do you think of these bright tribal nails everyone? I really like ‘em. But you know how I love my brights. :-D
