I do plan to show you all MOAR nail polish and a few makeup swatches in the upcoming weeks. I’m approaching the end of Hell Month (aka 50-55 hour weeks at work) so I’ll have time to play with my goodies again soon. In the meantime I have a compilation post of sorts to share to hopefully tide you over.
Now, I am by no means a professional when it comes to applying makeup. Nor do I even wear it consistently, maybe once or twice a week at most. My general philosophy with makeup is “errrr, just throw this and this together and see what happens…”. But every now and then I’m pretty pleased with how my makeup turns out! So I decided to pull some of my favorite more recent accidental miracles from my IG for your viewing pleasure. I hope you enjoy them! Unfortunately I can’t remember everything that I used for these said looks, but in the future I’ll try to take notes as I go!
Masquerade ‘King Cake’ !
This is probably one of my absolute favorite accidental looks ever! My friend had a Mardi Gras/Masquerade themed birthday dinner in February and I really wanted to do something Mardi Gras themed. I honestly think this turned out looking similar to the frosting on a King Cake! The purple, green, and white eyeshadows are from the Wet n Wild I Love Matte palette. I can’t remember what else I used, sorry! Eyeliner is Milani Color Brilliance in Green and Aqua. Lips are… Wet n Wild Vamp It Up I think?
Here’s a close-up up of the look.
And here’s my final look with my masquerade mask on! I’m wearing the Bone Machine 2.0 catsuit by Black Milk Clothing with a lace long sleeve top over it. ^_^
Smokey Gold EOTD/OOTD
*Waves fingers* Pay no attention to the clutter in the background, haha. I have a mild obsession with ALL gold eyeshadows. If I see a gold shadow, I am compelled to purchase it! I ordered quite a few sample eyeshadows from BFTE Cosmetics, and used a few for this look. I know I used BFTE Dragonslayer, and maybe BFTE Gable or Meteor Shower but don’t quote me on those last two. I also used Uzi from my Urban Decay Sustainable Palette. Lips are Wet n Wild Megalast 24 Carrot Gold layered over Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous. ^_^
I was going out for a friend’s birthday weekend and I paired this look with one of my favorite dresses from Black Milk Clothing (Woman in Red Ep. 1) and their suspender hosiery, with a black shadow striped doleman top.
Sort-Of Blackened Peach… Mauve?
This one is more of a fail that I ended up really liking anyway, haha. It initially was my attempt at Nihrida’s blackened peach, but I quickly realized that I didn’t really have the right colors to re-create her look. I worked with what I had, and accidentally overdid my cat eye so this turned into more of a blackened mauve… No clue really what I used here: some BFTE shadows, some Wet n Wild shadows, and some from a super cheap mystery palette from Walgreens.
Hair Of The Now!
Annnnnd on a different note, here is my hair of the now! I did a side-by-side to show you what it looks like straightened vs. its naturally curly state. On the lower half of my hair I dyed it with Burgundy Wine by Special Effects, and I used Cherry Bomb by Special Effects for my top layers. I love it! It’s even brighter in the sunlight (more pics here and here)! Though I think I want to use even brighter, or more fun colors next time. Maybe a purple or a blue? We shall see… This is my first time using Special Effects hair dyes, and so far I’m pretty impressed. I dyed it back in the beginning of March and my hair is still un-faded over a month later! It’s a plant-based dye that I was able to leave on my hair overnight with no damage to my tresses (I did not bleach my hair first).
Le Nails of the… Few Weeks Ago.
Finally, so I don’t leave you without any nail pr0n in a post I will just leave this here… I first saw this triangle gradient look created by Lafemmelulu on Instagram (her profile is private). Her nails are ALWAYS flawless, and I just loved this look so much that I had to try it myself.
I used A England Camelot for my base (gifted to me by A England’s Adina, thank you!). And for my gradient I layered You’re Such a Budapest and Can’t Find My Czechbook from OPI’s Euro Centrale collection (press samples, review coming soon-ish!) over Milani White on the Spot. I’m really happy with how this turned out for my first attempt! I’ll definitely be doing this look again!
That’s it for now folks! I hope you enjoyed looking at my ‘Fun With Eye Shadow’ pics. Would you all like more makeup centered posts here? I’m definitely still more of a nail polish [and sometimes food] centered blog, but I enjoy my eyeshadows and lipsticks. And if you all want to see more of that, I can certainly make it happen!
In theory I hope to have something new for you all next week. And I would reaaaaaally like to catch up on the ridiculous backlog of nail polishes I need to swatch. But I can’t have everything I ask for, can I?
Today is Day 10 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012, and the prompt is gradient nails! I ended up doing two looks today because I wasn’t completely satisfied with the first one. I’m gonna keep this short and sweet because I’m off to see Silent Hill Revelation in 3D with my boyfriend and my pal Sarah! I loooooove the games and I’m pretty curious to see how this second movie compares to the first movie and how closely it relates to the game it’s based on, Silent Hill 3.
31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 10 – Gradient Nails!
I took my inspiration for both of these manicures from my Pinterest boards. Whoever pinned this one didn’t link it properly so I unfortunately don’t know where the original idea came from. If anyone can point me to the creator of this mani, let me know!
I’m not super happy with my results on this one. The sponges I bought for my gradients were too squishy and not the same ones I’d bought last time. I think I still need to learn how to make them work best for me. -_-
Nail Polishes Used:
OPI Jade Is The New Black
A England Camelot
This second look comes from the amazing Madeline Poole! My attempt is nowhere near as gorgeous as hers but I tried! ^_^
Nail Polishes I Used:
Essie Penny Talk
OPI Kiss Me On My Tulips
A England Camelot

Today marks the first day of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 that I’m doing with Sam and Cris! Day 1 is all about red nails, which is probably my least worn color in my collection. But it gives me another excuse to try some nail art that I’ve had on my Pinterest boards for
days weeks months. I decided to attempt the Running Gradient by Katy of Nailed It. ^_^
31DC2012 Day 1 – Red Nails
I wanted to play with some of my Rescue Beauty Lounge pretties, and I just happened to have three shades of untried reds in my stash! I started off with 3 thin coats of RBL Pizzicato, which is actually more of a pale shimmery lavender than red but shush.
Then I used a thin nail brush to randomly swipe RBL Poppy on the middle third of my nails. Poppy is seriously one of my favorite polishes in my collection. It is AMAZING as a pedicure!
And finally, I used RBL Killa Red on the lower third of my nails. It has a jelly finish that I wasn’t expecting so I had to do a few layers to make it more opaque. I think I brought this one up a little too high on my nails and next time I try this look I want more of the 2nd layer of polish to show through. ^_^
Well that’s it for my Day 1 look! What do you guys think? The first week of the challenge always leaves me in a bit of a daze but after a while my creative brain finally kicks in.
And as a reminder, after today our 31 Day Challenge 2012 posting schedule will be Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday each week. So Day 2 (Orange Nails) will be this Saturday, October 13th. Don’t forget to head on over to Sam and Cris’s blogs to see what they’ve come up with for their Day 1 Nails!!

I’m deep in the middle of a swatching marathon (and watching a marathon of Eureka on Netflix!) and I almost forgot to schedule a post for today! I found these photos while I was clearing out my memory card for my camera. I’d forgotten that I’d taken photos of the Zoya Wednesday and Zoya Tracie gradient that I posted last month (I shared a lower quality pic of it on Instagram). Here’s a few better quality images for you all, and I’ll get back to my swatch-a-thon.
Gradient Nails – Zoya Wednesday and Zoya Tracie
I first started with Zoya Tracie (a green shimmer) and then I sponged on Zoya Wednesday until I reached the opacity I preferred. Though next time I think I’ll try to get the green to show up a bit more by reversing the layers. ^_^
That’s it for now! I finished updating my neglected spreadsheet for my polish, so if you haven’t checked that out you can see the list of my current stash count HERE. In other news, I apparently crossed my 1,000,000 blog views milestone! It snuck up on me. I hadn’t even realized that it happened until my friend Amanda pointed it out to me. Thank you ALL for being part of this awesome moment and I love you all. Expect some fun goodies from me to you in the near future. ♥
Now I just need to reorganize my Ikea Helmers. Oy….
I hope you all are doing well this morning. We’re halfway through the week, and I only have a few more midnight shifts until I get a much needed 4 day break!
A few weeks back I was contacted by a representative of X-Out, an acne treatment/skin care brand specifically for teens from the makers of Proactiv. They are doing a really great nail art project for an amazing cause. For every blogger that created an X-Out themed manicure they are going to donate $200 to Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center!
Pacer’s is a great national organization that helps to prevent bullying, and they help educate communities on how to address this serious issue. I never personally experienced bullying in school but I know how devastating it can feel to be on the receiving end of unkind words.
Even though I definitely came up with this theme after working 10 hours overnight and on the fly, I’m pretty pleased with the results! I included the images they sent me for inspiration at the bottom of this post, let’s see what I came up with.
My X-Out Nail Project Mani!
China Glaze – Grape Juice
Wet n Wild – On A Trip
Lynderella – Bride Of Franken
OPI – Did You ‘Ear About Van Gogh?
Essie – Go Overboard
L.A. Colors Art Deco – White
SinfulColors Nail Art Polish – Black
I’m writing this post on 2 hours of sleep from way earlier today, so let’s see if I remember how I did this. I did gradients with Grape Juice, On A Trip, Did You ‘Ear About Van Gogh?, and Going Overboard on my pointer, middle and pinky fingers. I used striping tape on my pinky to get the staggered striped pattern, and each gradient is different from the other but in the same color theme.
I then added a coat of Bride Of Franken on my pointer finger. And I used my black and white nail art pens to create the X on my middle finger. Finally I added microbeads in silver, purple, black and blue to my ring finger, topped my other three fingers with top coat and I was done! Below are some close-ups of each design.
My pointer/index finger.
And my pinky, which is my favorite of all the ones I did for this manicure. If you’re wondering what base color I used then you’ll have to wait for that post later this week.
I hope you all enjoyed my NOTD, it’s not often that I can say a manicure of mine was for a greater cause other than creating lemmings. With the opportunity to help Pacer’s, I just couldn’t pass this up!
I’d like to again thank Proactiv, X-Out and Guthy-Renker for thinking of my blog for this amazing nail art project!
It’s Day 8 of the Black and White Challenge and we’re tasked with sponged nail art for today. I’m gonna keep this short and sweet because I’m out the door, but I hope you like it.

Happy Wednesday Everyone!
I can’t believe this is the last day of the 31 Day Challenge!! It’s gone by so fast, and it’s been amazing sharing this experience with two bloggers I’ve admired even before I had my own blog! It’s been great having Cris and Sammy to run ideas by, share frustrations with, and shoot endless tweets to my heart’s content. This challenge forced me to push my boundaries and gave me a new love and appreciation for nail art! I loved it before, but I love it even more now that I know I’m not horrible at it. So I’ll pretty much cherish this fo-evah! If you missed any of the previous days, I have them all tucked away [HERE] for you to view them at a glance. ^_^
For the last day we wanted to do something extra special. Our challenge for Day 31 was to re-create our favorite challenge. So we each picked out a mani from the other two girls that we loved and did our best to recreate the looks. ^_^
Day 31: Re-Create Your Favorite Challenge (Sammy – Studded Nails)
Sammy did this kick-ass mani for her Day 25: Inspired By Fashion look. She took the inspiration from the Studded Sheath Dress by Michael Kors. As soon as I saw this on her nails I was in love and I knew I had to recreate it for today’s challenge . It reminds me of sexy studded black boots or a slick leather belt. ♥
I marched my butt down to the local Michael’s Arts & Crafts store and managed to find the little gold studs/bullion (in the scrapbooking section), brought ‘em home and went to work. I used Wet n Wild’s Black Creme as my base. Sam also wrote a great FAQ that helped me out a lot when I recreated this manicure.
I really REALLY love this manicure. I didn’t wear mine for the whole day since I still had another mani to create, but I’ll definitely be sporting this edgy design in the future. Thanks Sam for this awesome idea! ♥♥
Day 31: Re-Create Your Favorite Challenge (Cris – Animal Print)
How cool is this?! Cris did this beautiful gradient manicure for her Day 13: Animal Print nail challenge. I love the vibrant colors and the hint of holographic sparkle. I wish I owned a pair of the awesome technicolor flip-flops in her post, those things are awesome! Is anyone else reminded of Lisa Frank from back in the day?
I didn’t have the exact same polishes that Cris used but I did my best trying to keep things in the same color family. I used a LOT of different colors for this manicure and I spaced out when it came to writing them down. Since I don’t have INM Northern Lights Hologram top coat I ended up using China Glaze’s Wireless Holographic top coat instead, so the holo shimmer is finer in my mani. I also NEED the m78 plate in my life! I used my m57 plate for this manicure.
Macro shots of my two favorite color transitions. You’re gonna want to enlarge these two. Actually, backtrack to the first picture of the studded mani and enlarge all these photos ’cause they’re all splendiferous.
And there you have it, the end of the 31 Day Challenge! It’s going to take me some time to get used to regular swatching and reviews now that I’m done, hah! I want to thank everyone that watched me go through this from Day 1, and anyone that joined in midway to watch my progress as well. This has been a blast and I hope it inspires some of you to start your own 31 Day Challenge in the future! ♥
It’s the first day of November, and day 23 of the 31 Day Challenge I’m doing with Cris and Sam (don’t forget to check out what they did for today!). I can’t believe we’re almost done! Time certainly does fly. Today we’re supposed to show a look that was inspired by a movie. Since I created this manicure yesterday on Halloween I wanted it to be something that also suited the holiday spirit, and I’m also a HUGE fan of horror movies.
I picked the 2009 Halloween horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat as my movie inspiration (wiki entry/spoilers [HERE]). I based the manicure around one of the recurring characters, Sam (aka Samhain). He’s the spirit of Halloween and uses a lollipop sickle to er… “enforce” the rules of Halloween throughout the movie. If you’re a fan of horror movies, especially anthologies, I would highly recommend this one. I love all of the stories that are told and how well they are interwoven with each other. ♥
Day 23: Inspired By A Movie (Trick ‘r Treat)
Even though I’m fighting off the beginning of a nasty cold I really had fun with this manicure. I started out with a coat of Black Creme by Wet n Wild. I then took Very Structured by Essie and added a little bit of black to it to darken it, I sponged that mixture onto my nails. I then kept adding more of Very Structured back into my dark brown polish mixture and used the resulting colors to create a gradient that went from black to medium brown.
After that dried I used acrylic paints to create Sam, his lollipop sickle, and the trick ‘r treat words to my nails. Acrylics are going to take some trial and error before I get better with them. This was my first time ever using them and I think I did about as good as I’m going to for a first attempt.
Here’s the Trick ‘r Treat movie poster that I used for my inspiration. Poor Sammy, he’s just a poor misunderstood pumpkin/demon/monster/child/thing.
Close-up shot of Sam’s noggin.
I wish I could have made the lettering more well-defined. I think I just need to find the right combo of art brushes and get used to working with acrylics more. I also goofed on the letter ‘a’, it should be a capital ‘A’ like in the poster. But at that point I didn’t want to do the entire nail over again.
Macro shot of Sam’s lollipop sickle that’s on my pinky. ^_^
And one more shot of the completed manicure with flash. I love how the orange just *POPS* right out of the screen.
Well that’s it for day 23! It’s a bit of an obscure movie, but I really enjoyed it. And heck, even if you don’t get the movie reference it’s at least a fun Halloween theme mani anyway.
We’re at day 21 of the 31 Day Challenge, this is the final stretch people! Today is supposed to be ‘Inspired By A Color‘. Right… ಠ_ಠ
Anyone else find this one as vague as I do? I mean… Haven’t the last 20 posts been about colors? I figured this day was left up to user interpretation, so I decided to do something fun with my favorite color. GREEN! Well, varying degrees of jade and mint green to be exact. I decided to attempt my first Ombre Nails manicure! Normally for an ombre mani you’re supposed to use the same polish blended with white to varying degrees, with the resulting look being a gradient from thumb to pinky of darkest to lightest (or light to dark). I changed it up a bit and used five polishes I had that were varying shades of jade/mint green. It’s not a perfect example of ombre nails but I like it anyway.
Day 21: Inspired By A Color (Jade/Mint Ombre Nails)
From thumb to pinky I used the following shades: Orly – Green With Envy, Essie – Turquoise & Caicos, Milani – Dress Maker, Barry M - Mint Green, and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Mint Sorbet. The Dress Maker polish kinda sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the colors, but NO CARE because it’s pretty. Not to mention it’s a almost dead-on dupe of Chanel’s infamous Jade polish! :-D
Dress Maker also has a lovely subtle shimmer, here’s a closer look (enlarge this sucker, you won’t regret it). I personally cannot get enough of these jade and mint green shades. I think it looks wonderful with my skin tone. I’m sure that once I eventually get my Helmer I’ll have to devote at least half a drawer to my continuing collection of greens.
And here’s a wonderful
grainy antiqued shot of the polishes I used for this ombre manicure. ^_^
I want to thank you all again for coming to my blog every day to check out the challenge, it means a lot to me and I’m so happy to be sharing my love of polish and these new experiences with you all. ♥
