NOTD: Valentine’s Day Domo-kun Mani!
21Happy Valentines Day Everyone!
Holy cow, it’s been quite a while since my last post and I definitely missed you gals (and guys!)! Working midnight shift on top of my apprenticeship at the salon has been kicking my butt. Last week I had a chapter test each day that I went in, and when I did have a chance to be home for more than a few minutes (and not studying) all I wanted to do was veg out or sleep. 
I decided to brave a little sleep deprivation so I could at least give you all a holiday manicure for today. I wanted to do something fun, quick, and silly. My friend Jamie suggested that I do a manicure with domo-kuns (probably the most adorable made up monster in the world), and I decided to put a festive twist on it. 
Valentine’s Day Domo-kun Mani
I think these turned out pretty well, I love their beady little eyes and pointy teeth. The one on my pointer finger has an air bubble that kinda looks like a cavity, haha!
I remember seeing domo-kuns online a long LONG time ago involving a very inappropriate internet meme including domos chasing kittens (you may know what I’m referring to, hah!). They then resurfaced in a more mainstream way when Target made it their mascot for Halloween one year.
A few more shots for you all. I had wanted to add little hearts above their heads so it would look like little bows, but my nails weren’t long enough.

My boyfriend and I don’t get too overly involved in Valentine’s Day celebrations. Our plan is to cook dinner together once I get done at the salon, then watch a movies and just veg out for the rest of the night. On the menu is pork chops with garlic & wine, and Chad says he makes a mean acorn squash so I’m pretty pumped about that. And part of me wants to make these frickin awesome looking chocolate domo-kun heart cookies to go with the theme of my nails.
We usually sneak in a small gift here or there. I got him something incredibly nerdy that he should enjoy. I would tell you all what it is but I’ll keep quiet on the off-chance that he decides to read my blog today. 
Happy New Year’s Eve!! – NYE Holiday Manicure
27Happy New Year’s Eve Everyone!
Just a quick post today because I need to finish packing. My boyfriend and I are going to Chicago to celebrate the new year with a few of our friends. This look was inspired by the awesome stamped holiday mani with the Red Angel plate RA-107 done by Enamel Girl. Hers looks WAY better (you can see it [HERE]) but I just needed this look to be my holiday manicure. I just wish I had all the colors she used. Looks like I need the Color Club Foiled Collection, oh darn.

I used A England The Knight & The Shield basecoat and topcoat. ^_^

Merry (Day After) Christmas! – Holiday Skittle Mani

Happy Holidays Everyone!
Sorry this post is a day late, but it’s still Christmahanakwanzika season so it still counts… Right? I hope you all had a great Christmas if you celebrate. I’ve just got a quick post for you today of a holiday skittle mani that I did on Christmas Eve. I used Color Club’s New Bohemian and several of the polishes that Dana (Merry Christmas girl!) sent me last month. I ended up hating it and re-painted my nails afterward because I was being a grinch, but now that I’m looking at the pictures a few days later I think it turned out pretty cute!
I used one of the three stamping plates sent to me by KKCenterHK, the one that has the snowflake on it (B61). The plates they offer are inexpensive, but they do not have the cardboard backing like BM or Konad plates. The plastic film on the plates that you have remove before using them is also ridiculously hard to peel off. It’s super thin, like fine saran wrap, and it kept tearing off in pieces. Even after I managed to remove most of it there’s still a few shreds clinging to the sides of the stamping plate. Beside that, the pattern transferred nicely onto my nails. I’ll show you more stamping designs with the other two plates when I have time to try them out.
Holiday Skittle Mani
Let me first mention that New Bohemian is a pain in my ass to work with. I don’t know if I got a bad batch or what, but it was a streaky/gloopy mess. It took me three coats to get it opaque and mostly streak free. Annoying for such a pretty color!
I can’t remember the names of the polishes Dana sent me off the top of my head. I used a holo bar glitter on my ring finger (love it!) from what looks like a foreign brand. I’m holding the bottle for it in my pics. 
On my thumb I used a vintage gold glitter by Wet n Wild. And I stamped with the B61 KKCenterHK plate on my pointer, middle, and pinky fingers. I used China Glaze Millennium and Sally Hansen White On for the stamped snowflakes. I then layered Confetti’s Ice Ice Baby over it.
Here’s some quick shots of the nail plates that were sent to me. I think only two of them would make good full nail designs, the rest are way too small unless you’re painting the nails of a 3 year old.

Happy Independence Day!!
I hope everyone celebrating is having a great holiday weekend. Unfortunately for me I work tonight, but I get paid double time so it isn’t all that bad. This upcoming weekend the boyfriend and I are taking off for a few days for the Fire On The Bay festivities, which is a giant firework display set off above Lake Superior in Big Bay, MI. I can’t wait to relax on the beach with a nice cold beer, or two… Or three.
I attempted my very first patchwork manicure today following the tutorial from the ever talented Erika at Chloe’s Nails. That woman can do amazing things with scotch tape! I think I did pretty good for my first attempt. Okay, time for more pictures!

I used the following polishes for this mani:

- Silver Glitter by L.A. Colors Art Deco
- Rouge Andalou by NARS (I love this color!)
- White Out by Sally Hansen
The way this shines in the sun is memorizing. It looks like there are tiny fireworks going off on my nails!
