Posts tagged Pretty And Polished
So I’ve been sitting on these swatches of the Pretty and Polished Save The Dauphine collection for entirely too long. I actually swatched these back at the end of January and edited my photos, but I just couldn’t find the motivation to actually type up my post about them. -_-
But better late than never I suppose! Unfortunately it looks like the collection was moved to a limited edition status while I was sitting on my thumbs, and only two of the four polishes from the collection are still readily available. But perhaps they’ll pop up some time in the future on another site’s blog sale! ^_^
I was actually INCREDIBLY pumped about this collection when Chels Marie first announced it. My mother literally named me after the late queen of France (Marie is my first name, Antoinette is my middle name) so I pretty much had to own this collection when it was released. HAD. TO. And once I had the polishes in my possession, they did not disappoint. Let’s get to the swatches (that I’m sure you’ve already seen before haha).
Hameau is a really pretty eggshell/off-white jelly-creme hybrid filled with iridescent shimmer and small blurple and green multi-sized hex glitter. This one was an instant favorite for me. It’s a little on the sheer side, but I only needed 3 coats to reach opacity. It was incredibly easy to apply.
Let Them Eat Cake
Let Them Eat Cake, seriously you all do not know how many times I’ve heard this joke throughout my life. IT’S ALWAYS HILARIOUS. Truth is, the queen most likely never even uttered the phrase. But alas, it’s etched in history forever. That being said, THIS version of Let Them Eat Cake is not a lie (yaseewhatididthere..?) and it’s actually quite gorgeous.
This polish is a pale pink crelly (jelly/creme hybrid) filled with yellow, red, pink, lilac and white glitter in multiple shapes and sizes. LOVE. Again I needed 3 coats, this one was a little tricky to apply compared to Hameau but with patience (and a little bit of Gelous before adding top coat) I got everything to smooth out.
Louis Louis is fricken fabulous! I was not expecting to love this one as much as I did but oh my damn this color is fabulous! Louis Louis is a tarnished gold filled with tiny blue hex glitter and red round glitter. I’ve never seen anything quite like it! I used just one coat of Louis Louis over black to make the colors really pop.
The Diamond Necklace Affair
Last but not least, we have The Diamond Necklace Affair. Marie Antoinette just could not catch a break. This polish is a reference to the incident that placed blame on her regarding a crime against the Crown Jewelers. This polish is a glitter topper, so it has a clear base and it is filled with opalescent and light blue glitter in multiple shapes and sizes throughout. You can layer this over virtually anything and yield a variety of results. Shown here, I have 1 coat of The Diamond Necklace Affair over A England Galahad. I love this combination! But I bet this would look gorgeous over a darker nail polish as well.
This one was a little tricky to apply since it’s so thick due to the suspension base. The dabbing method worked best for me, but I had to be careful that I didn’t accidentally pick up glitter again with the brush as I was dabbing. No Gelous was needed before adding top coat for a smooth finish.
Even with The Diamond Necklace Affair and Let Them Eat Cake requiring a little bit of patience to apply, I have nothing bad to say about this four polish collection. I absolutely love every single one of them, with Let Them Eat Cake, Hameau and Louis Louis being my favorites. But seeing as I share a name with their inspiration, I might be a smidge partial.
If you can get your hands on the entire Pretty and Polished Save The Dauphine collection I highly suggest you pounce on them when you spot them out in the wild.
Pretty and Polished nail polishes can be purchased from their online store, www.shopprettyandpolished.com. Each polish retails at $5.00 for the mini and $9 for the full sized bottle. You can also still find Pretty and Polished on her Etsy Shop. Though it does look like the remaining Save The Dauphine Collection nail polishes have been slightly discounted.

Why Hello Thar…
Long time no type, eh?
I think the last time I updated was ohhh… Almost two months ago! Which is the longest hiatus I think I’ve ever taken from my blog. Sorry about that folks, time flies when you’re busy doing other things. Or doing a bunch of nothing. Or a mix of both? I really didn’t mean to be away for so long, but I just needed a break from the blogging grind. It was starting to become more of a chore instead of being fun. And honestly, I STILL don’t have swatches for you all today but I hope to get back to swatching in the near future.
What have I been up to, you ask? Well, not much actually. Relaxing, working, spending time with friends and the boyfriend. Also reading, BECOMING OBSESSED WITH BLACK MILK CLOTHING, and most recently getting over the flu. The flu sucks. A lot. It’s been a week since it started and I’m still not at 100% functionality. I’m still running on fumes. :/
In the meantime, I will spam you all with photos from my Instagram account that you may or may not have already seen if you follow me there.
Food Subscription Boxes
I’ve gone a little nutty over food subscription boxes as of late. But hey, I love food. More than nail polish most days and I enjoy being able to try new things. So I cancelled my Birchbox and signed up for three food boxes. I’ll include referral links for the ones that have them just in case anyone wants to use it.
Goodies Co. is part of the Walmart brand. Yes I know, eeeeviillll Walmart but this food box is amazing! Everything in their box is organic and most of it was also vegan and/or nut free. The cinnamon sugar popcorn, oatcakes and apple chips were heavenly. I think it’s still in beta mode and you can sign up for an invite at www.goodies.co, the subscription is only $7 per month including shipping. And it’s the largest of the three that I signed up for. Click the photo for more details on what I got in my December box.
Love With Food is the ‘mid-range’ food box that mainly deals with gourmet noms. This was my January box and while the cookies were a little crushed this time everything was really tasty. I LOOOOVED the plantain chips and the chai! This box is $12 per month. What I love about this box is that for every subscription box they send out, they also donate a meal to the needy. How awesome is that! While you nom, you’re helping someone else nom too. You can sign up with the link I provided at the begging on this paragraph, or through my referral link [HERE]. Once again, click the photo for more details on what was in my January box.
Petit Amuse is the smallest subscription box of the three I’m signed up for, and the most ‘expensive’ at $12 a month. But they specialize in small-scale Artisan/Small Market style foods that you really can’t find shopping at your average store in town. I love the little surprises I get each month. This is a photo from my December box. I already ate half of my January box and forgot to photograph it. You can sign up at via the link I provided at the beginning of this paragraph, or my referral link [HERE]. Clicking the photo will take you to the IG page where I describe by December box contents. The nougat and honey were ammmmaazing. ^_^
Biscoff is a cookie spread, and it is like crack. So friggin addicting! I haven’t even used it as a spread, I’ve just been eating it from the jar with a spoon. It reminds me of the filling inside Nutter Butters. I just ordered a jar of Crunchy Biscoff which has bits of cookie spread in the mix. O___O
Pomegranates might be my favorite fruit, and they’re relatively cheap where I live ($1.90 each I think) and I’ve been hitting the jackpot with picking them out lately. Such a wonderful mix of tart, sweet and crunchy. Yum yum yum!
While I still read and love The Walking Dead, I’ve been branching out heavily into my comic and graphic novel loooove. I already flew through Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman series and all its spinoffs, and I just finished up reading Runaways. Here’s a few more I’m obsessing over lately. ♥
If you love comics and you are not reading Brian K. Vaughan’s Saga yet Imma have to hurt you. IT IS SO GOOD!! I’ve loved Vaughan’s work since Y: The Last Man and while Saga is only 9 issues in it’s already becoming a favorite of mine and pulling at my heart-strings. Fiona Staples artwork for the comic is fricking superb! The first trade paperback was just released a few months ago and covers issues #1-6.
CHEW is another one that I just started reading at the suggestion of my friend. I love it! It’s quite dark and humorous at the same time. I should have TPB vol. 5 and vol. 6 in my mitts today which will get me caught up to issue #30.
I just started reading Bill Willingham’s Fables earlier this month and I am in LOVE. I’m about 50 issues into the main story and getting ready to dive into Jack of Fables, one of the many spin-offs from the main series. Comics + Folklore = So much love!
Selfies! And My Growing Black Milk Collection
So… If you’re friends with me or follow me on Instagram, you’ll already know that my love of Black Milk Clothing is undying. I have a growing collection of their lovelies so I figured I share a few photos of me wearing some delicious nylon. :p
Most of the pieces in my collection are/were limited edition items, so they are no longer available for sale on their site.
This is my prized possession, the Woman in Red Ep. 1 dress! I’ve yet to wear it in public yet but it’s definitely one of my favorite pieces! I was trying to winterize it a bit by matching it with leggings and these shoes I got at Target for $9 bucks!!!
Another museum piece (aka retired), the Not Impressed Bunny dress. I friggin love the bunny’s “And not a single f*ck was given” face he is giving. I’m assuming the bunny is a male, who really knows.
My latest (now sold out) piece, the Egypt leggings!!! I love, LOVE, LOOOOOVE these. And I was so happy to have been able to snag a pair before they sold out.
So my room is always messy. Deal With It. I think I have about 9 or 10 items from Black Milk so far. They just released part one of their LOTR/Hobbit collection. My bank account is already afraid.
And for shiggles, a most recent photo of yours truly sporting mah new bangs! I cut them myself, not bad eh? And yes, I’m wearing shorts in my house but we don’t control the heat and it was like 80 degrees in my bedroom. Or I might have still had a fever. Did I mention I’m getting over the flu?
Save The Dauphine!
And look! Nail polish! See, I still know what this stuff is. These are bottle shots of Pretty & Polished’s Save The Dauphine collection based on Marie Antoinette. And since that is my name (for real y’all!) I had to have it. HAD TO. I plan to swatch it very soon. ^_^
Thank you all for indulging me in my spammy spam spam post today. Typing this out has actually been pretty fun, and I miss you all very much. Let’s hope I find my swatching mojo soon because I have a
shitload huge backlog of nail polishes to share with you all.
Oh My Glob Everyone!
I was so friggin pumped when I realized that Pretty and Polished was making the Mathematical!! collection based off the show Adventure Time! As you may well know by now, my boyfriend and I are completely obsessed with the show. We even dressed up at Princess Bubblegum and Finn for Halloween! I set my alarm for the minute these got released and snagged 5 minis from the 8 polish collection. I’ll more than likely go back for the full sized bottles at some point because this collection is totally shmowzow!
If you’re not familiar with Adventure Time, I’ll try to briefly describe it to you. It’s an American tv show on Cartoon Network that follows a 14-year-old boy named Finn the Human and his yellow dog named Jake (who has magical powers) through the post-apocalyptic world called Land of Ooo. Some other outstanding characters in the show are: Princess Bubblegum, the ruler of Candy Kingdom; The Ice King, kinda evil but mostly just wants to marry all the PRINCESSES!!; Lumpy Space Princess, who is pretty much a lumpy valley girl; Marceline, the coolest sorta evil-but-not-really hipster vampire; Lady Rainicorn, Jake’s girlfriend (he’s the only one that understand what she’s saying…) who is half rainbow and half unicorn; and Beemo/BMO, the most adorable handheld gaming system ever. There are TONS of other characters and lots of back-story. So if you enjoy reading check out the wiki and wikia pages! ^_^
Enough of my rambling, let’s get to the swatches!
I’m Not A Banana!
First up is I’m Not A Banana! This one is based on Jake the Dog. The yellow jelly is a perfect match for his fur color, and I love the black and white hex glitter! This one was pretty sheer but I was able to build it to an opacity I liked after 4 coats. I didn’t have any issue with getting the hex glitter out of the bottle and it dried relatively quickly for as much as I used. I’ll have to search through my yellows to see if I have something similar to layer it with next time. Maybe Cult Nails Feel Me Up?
King Of C-C-Cool
King of C-C-Cool is based on the Ice King and it’s so awesome! I have nothing like this polish in my collection at all. It’s a blue squishy creme/jelly base filled with blue micro-shimmer, tiny red square glitter, blue and yellow hex glitter, and white diamond glitter! I absolutely LOVE this one. I used 3 coats here and had no issues getting a good amount of each type of glitter on my nails. No dabbing necessary even though there’s so much going on!
My Lumps represents the ever awesome Lumpy Space Princess, and is a sheer purple jelly filled with yellow and purple glitter shards and blurple micro-shimmer. This was the only one I chose to layer out of the group. It looked too sheer to build up on its own but in hindsight I believe you can get this one to opacity after 4 coats. Shown here is 3 coats over A England Guinevere. You can’t even really see my base polish at all anymore (except for maybe my pinky which I think I accidentally only did 2 coats of My Lumps ).
This is another unique one for me in my collection. I loved the yellow flash in the purple! The glitter was fairly easy to place, just make sure you wait between coats so you don’t drag it. And a good top coat will keep the surface smooth.
Peebles is named after Princess Bubblegum (who is often referred to as PB or Peebles in the show). This one is a squishy bubblegum pink jelly with fuchsia micro-shimmer and pink and yellow hex glitter. I looooooove this one, but I may be partial because PB is my favorite character in the show. I used 3 coats here.
The Young Hero
And lastly, we have The Young Hero! This one is named after Finn the Human and it’s another favorite for me in the collection. The Young Hero is a squishy white creme/jelly hybrid filled with blue and yellow small glitters, small blue hex glitter, light blue square glitter and light green hex glitter. LOVE!
I’ve been wearing this one for a few days now. The cashier as PetSmart stopped me dead in the middle of my transaction to gush about my nails when I had this on! She thought I’d put the glitter in there myself.
You all get TWO macro shots of The Young Hero because you’re that special to me, haha. That and you can see the green hex glitter in the first macro.
Application for The Young Hero was a little tricky. It was hard to get it to level out to even coat on some nails but I managed to get it all under control at 4 thin coats. If you wait between coats or layer it over a white base (I didn’t do either of those things, haha) you might have an easier time of it. But it was totally worth the effort because this final result is effing gorgeous!
And here’s a few bonus shots of the mini bottles with the new Pretty and Polished labels. I love that each bottle has little colored polish drops that reflect the colors inside each individual polish! Very cute!
Even if I weren’t partial to Adventure Time I would still give my picks from this collection an A+++++! Every single polish from the collection is entirely unique to my stash and they all have something great to offer. Not to mention, they’re just so dang fun! I think each one accurately represents the whimsical (and slightly off the wall) nature of the television show, and each polish is a perfect representation of the characters that inspired them. Dare I say that if I made a top 10 indie collection list for 2012, the Mathematical!! collection would be on that list for sure!
Do you need these? Get the math outta here with that question, heck yeah you need them!
The entire Pretty and Polished Mathematical!! collection can be purchased from their online store, www.shopprettyandpolished.com. Each polish retails at $5.00 for the mini and $9 for the full sized bottle. You can also still find Pretty and Polished on her Etsy Shop.
Welcome to Day 3 of my mini Pretty and Polished spam! Today I have Pretty As A Peacock to share with you all! This one is a beauty, so let’s get to the swatches!
Pretty and Polished – Pretty As A Peacock
Pretty As A Peacock has a dark emerald green base that’s filled with multi-sized blue, teal, purple, and green glitter. There’s a lot going on and it’s alllll good. Chels Marie was inspired by the plumage of male peacocks, and I think she nailed this one perfectly!
I layered 2 coats of Pretty As A Peacock over Paint Box Polish Northern Lights, but honestly I think Pretty As A Peacock is opaque enough to be built up on its own. I’ll have to try it next time I decide to wear it.
Here’s a macro shot for ya! This polish is busy in all the right ways!
So I have a bit of an obsession with birds. I have a small owl tattoo on my ankle, a HUGE phoenix spanning from my ribs to my knee, and I’m currently working on the sketching of my owl half sleeve with my tattoo artist! And peacocks are on my list of avian loves, so I’m sure I’ll find a spot to get one of them tattooed on me too. This polish is truly amazing and it definitely captures the spirit of the bird in the nail polish. I had no application issues whatsoever with Pretty As A Peacock, so that also constitutes as a win in my books!
Pretty and Polished Pretty As A Peacock can be purchased from their online store, www.shopprettyandpolished.com. It retails at $5.00 for the mini and $9 for the full sized bottle. You can also still find Pretty and Polished on her Etsy Shop.

Welcome to Day 2 of my Pretty and Polished Extravaganza, haha! I’ve got another holiday collection polish to share with you all today. This time we’re gonna check out Pretty and Polished S’no Mans Land. Let’s get straight to it, shall we? ^_^
Pretty and Polished – S’no Mans Land
S’no Mans Land is a frosty white polish filled with satin white hex glitter and small iridescent glitter. At first I was incredibly frustrated with this polish. It looked so pretty in the bottle and when I tried to wear it alone it was a frosty-streak filled disaster for me. What I quickly learned about S’no Mans Land is that you need patience to get it to work for you and not against you. What you also need to do is layer this sucker, unless you don’t mind the frosty finish when worn alone.
What you see above is 1 THIN coat of S’no Mans Land layered over OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls. This turned out to be my favorite combo for this polish. This turned out quite pretty when done this way. But make sure your coats are thiiiiinnn, I made the coat on my pointer finger just a little too thick and it started looking pearly again.
The hex glitter is sparse but fishing wasn’t necessary, and I would not recommend fishing for this polish because it’ll just make your nails look like a mess, hah!
And here is a shot of 2 coats of S’no Mans Land on its own. I only did my pinky before I gave up on it to go with my layering combo instead. I mean, it’s certainly not the worst thing I’ve ever seen. But it was just too frosty on its own for me.
While not my favorite polish of the holiday collection that I’ve tried, S’no Mans Land can be saved! ^_^ If you layer it over white it has quite the ethereal look thanks to the hex and iridescent glitter. Once I learned how to work with S’no Mans Land I really did love how it looked layered!
But bear in mind that it can be tricky to work with. And if frosty finish nail polishes are the bane of your existence, or you don’t like to layer your polishes then this may not be the polish you are looking for.
Pretty and Polished S’no Mans Land can be purchased from Chels Marie’s new shop, www.shopprettyandpolished.com. It retails at $5.00 for the mini and $9 for the full sized bottle. You can also still find Pretty and Polished on her Etsy Shop.

So we’re going to be going on a Pretty and Polished adventure for the next few days! AKA, I have a TON of new Pretty and Polished lovelies that I’ve been collecting for the past few weeks that I need to share with you all before I burst, haha! First up today is the Pretty and Polished Happy Holodays Duo! This duo consists of Ruby (a scattered holo jelly) and an un-named green/red holo glitter top coat.
Pretty and Polished – Happy Holodays Duo
IT’S A WRAP FOLKS. Stick a fork in me cause I’m done! This is SUCH a winning holiday combo! The glitter topper (renamed Holy Sh*t! by yours truly) is a gorgeous mix of green and red hex glitter in a clear base, with some of the glitters being holographic. I immediately turned to my boyfriend and said “WELP. Holiday mani locked and loaded!” He knowledgeably agreed.
Shown here is 2 coats of the glitter topper over Ruby. Super easy formula to work with AND LOOK AT THAT MACRO. ♥
And here’s the base polish Ruby on its own, a gorgeous cranberry red scattered holographic jelly. I literally squealed out loud when I put this on my nails. It’s so damn pretty, and super pigmented! This is just 2 coats! And there was no staining after I took it off. Hai nails, me my new favorite red jelly polish! Formula was perfection as well, it wasn’t runny at all and Ruby practically painted itself on my nails. ^_^
Everything that is Christmas, and Santa, and evergreen, and winter lived in these two bottles of polish. But for reals, I have been a fan of Pretty and Polish for over a year now. She knows her stuff and her polishes are pretty fantastic folks. In my opinion, the Happy Holodays Duo are definite must-haves for the holiday/holoday season! ^_^
The Pretty and Polished Happy Holodays Duo can be purchased from Chels Marie’s new shop, www.shopprettyandpolished.com. The price of the duo starts at $9.00 for the minis and goes up from there. You can also still find Pretty and Polished on her Etsy Shop.

Sam, Cris and I are back again with Day 5 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 with our blue nails! Blue is one of my absolute favorite colors, and I knew exactly what I wanted to wear from the start of the challenge for this day. ^_^
I’ve been a huge fan of Pretty and Polished for quite some time, and I’ve been following her P&P Zodiac collection (a new one is released with each new Zodiac sign monthly I believe) for a few months. I knew that as soon as she released her Libra themed nail polish that I would HAVE to buy it no matter what. And I happened to luck out once Libra Scales was announced, because it is BEAUTIFUL!
31 Day Challenge 2012 – Blue Nails with Libra Scales!!
How phucken gorgeous is this nail polish?!?! Libra Scales is a deep blue jelly that’s filled with blue glitter, shimmer, flakies, etc. You name it, it’s probably in there! I started off with 3 thin coats of Orly Royal Navy as my base color, which is my new favorite blue jelly polish to use as a base. It has just a hint of subtle silver shimmer and the formula is perfection!
After I let Royal Navy dry for a few minutes, I then topped it off with just a single coat of Pretty & Polished Libra Scales. The coverage is amazing! And then I decided that something was missing still… MATTE TOP COAT!
Pretty & Polished Libra Scales – Mattified
Libra Scales is gorgeous on its own, and I honestly don’t know whether I like it better shiny or with matte top coat! I used Essie Matte About You top coat here. I adore the frosted over look with the glitter chunks suspended in the jelly finish. *le swoon*
I ended up leaving my fingers matte, and I did the exact same manicure with shiny top coat on my toes. It’s rare that my fingers match my toes but I loved this polish that much!
Orly – Royal Navy
Dassit for today folks! I hope you loved this as much as I do! I almost feel like I’m gonna need a backup bottle for Libra Scales AND Royal Navy, I love these nail polishes that much. ♥
If you’re looking to get your hands on Libra Scales or any of the other polishes from the Zodiac collection it is an exclusive to the Pretty & Polished Etsy Shop. ^_^
Today I’ve got an old NOTD to share with you fine people. I bought Pretty And Polished Jawbreaker and Toy With Me mini bottles at the same time and immediately fell in love with both. I’ve swatched both of them, but I wasn’t happy with my pictures of Toy With Me so I plan to re-do my pictures for that one at a later date. But today it’s all about Jawbreaker. This polish… So much love. ♥
Pretty And Polished – Jawbreaker
Jawbreaker is perfectly named because it looks just like the candy it shares its name with! This milky white based polish is filled with blue, green, yellow, and purple glitters in all shapes and sizes.
I used 2 coats of Essie Marshmallow as my base and then layered 2 coats of Pretty And Polished Jawbreaker over it, perrrrrrfection! Jawbreaker is opaque on its own after 2-3 coats, but since I only have a mini bottle I want to try to use as little of my precioussssssss as possible.
For the best results, I inverted the bottle for about 15-20 minutes and shook it a bit to loosen the grip of the larger hex glitter pieces from the sides of the bottle.
And a macro shot to share with you all. It’s a thing of beauty, so you’re gonna need to maximize this picture. For science.
Pretty And Polished is definitely one of my favorite indie/custom polish makers out there. Her polishes really stand out and catch my attention, which in a market that’s currently flooded with indies right now it difficult to achieve. I only have three of her creations right now but I love them all! Hopefully I can show you guys Party In My Yacht and Toy With Me soon. ^_^
You can check out the Pretty And Polished Etsy page to see when she is opening up shop again. If you look at her feedback section you can get an idea of what her polishes look like and see some of her past creations. I’ve got my eyes on Sand Art, Pool Party, Green Garden, Forever Rose and Bayou Blitz!
