31 Day Challenge: Day 22 – Inspired By A Song (Gangnam Style Nails)!

21

Hey Everyone!

OOooooh man. This is hands down my favorite day of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 so far! Today’s theme for Day 22 is ‘Inspired By A Song’, and this was another day where I knew exactly what I wanted to do from the beginning of the challenge. There’s a million pictures so let’s just get straight to it! :-D

Oppa Gangnam Nails!

Hahahaaa! I am so so SO happy with how these turned out! I was first introduced to this song by the K-Pop artist Psy by my boyfriend back in the beginning of August. I laughed so friggin hard that I was in tears. This song is infections, and the accompanying music video is absolutely hilarious! I joked around for a while about doing Gangnam nails, so once I decided to do this challenge with Sam and Cris my day 22 nails were a no brainer. :-D

If you somehow have been living under a rock and haven’t heard the song or seen the music video for Gangnam Style, I’ve included it at the bottom of this post. :P

The scene in the music video where Psy and the dancers are covered in white debris always cracks me up. So I’m happy that I was able to recreate that with mah nails. Excuse the awkward hang pose but it’s hard to get my thumb and pointer finger to cooperate. ;)

That’s it for day 22! I really don’t want to take these off. Sunday’s nails might be late you guys, haha!

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 9 – Rainbow Nails!!

15

Morning Everyone!

I hope you’re all having a great week so far! I have one more night of work and then I have the rest of October off! I’m excited to have a mini break and just become a vegetable at home. And perhaps venture out a time or two for Halloween festivities! For those that celebrate, any of you have fun plans for the extended Halloweekend? And what are your costume plans?! I love hearing about what other people are going to do for the holiday. ^_^

Also I wanted to thank everyone that voted for my Bundle Monster Fright Night contest entry, BECAUSE I MADE IT AS ONE OF THE 13 FINALISTS!! :-D You can see the other finalists [HERE]. The guest judges are picking the winners some time today, and even if I don’t place I’m still happy to have made it as far as I did because there were some amazing entries for the contest. :-P

Today is Day 9 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012, and the prompt is rainbow nails. I don’t know why, but this is my least favorite prompt of the entire challenge (swiftly followed by ‘Inspired by a Color”, I’m still wtf-ing at that one). Last year I did Nyan Cat (which I loved, even though my cat looked a little… off) but this year I was just so uninspired. I did eventually figure something out so without further ado…

31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 9 – Rainbow Nails!

31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 1
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 2
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 3
I called myself trying to keep things “simple” with a rainbow skittle manicure. I wanted to do the Fishtail Braid as an accent nail because I figured that doing it on just one nail would save time. Too bad this still took me THREE FRICKIN’ HOURS with having to wait between coats to dry… :-( Even 12 hours later my stupid ring finger is still dentable. I love the look of Fishtail Braid manicures, and this one turned out better than my last attempt… But I doubt I will ever do this ish again unless I’m using quick dry nail polishes. :-P

Nail Polishes I Used:
Dermelect Head Turner (pointer finger)
Sally Hansen Lightening
(thumb and ring finger)
OPI Red Lights Ahead… Where?
(middle and ring finger)
Color Club Insta-This
(pinky and ring finger)
OPI A Roll In The Hague
(ring finger)
Rescue Beauty Lounge Mismas
(ring finger)
Essie Pretty Edgy
(ring finger)
China Glaze Wireless Holographic Top Coat

31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 4
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 5
I’m glad I decided to add the holographic top coat because I really think it ties everything together nicely. For the fishtail braid accent nail I just carefully free-handed the lines because I am just entirely too impatient for tape manicures. I always end up peeling off half my nail polish in the process. :-P
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 6
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 7
31DC2012 Day 9 - Rainbow Nails 8
And a few more shots with my rarely seen thumb. My nails are getting pretty long again, eh? I think I’ll keep them long-ish at least to the end of the challenge since it gives me a better work space for nail art. ^_^

I’m almost tempted to grow them super long and shape them into stilettos just for shiggles before I file them down after the challenge is done. 8O

Well that’s all she wrote for today everyone! The next challenge day is this Saturday and it’s gradient nails! I cannot wait to show you what I have in store for that day! ^_^

Don’t forget to check out  Sam and Cris’s blogs to see their Day 9 rainbow nails.

NOTD: Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Lava!!

10

Morning Everyone!

I found the Sally Hansen Lustre Shine collection fairly recently at my local Walgreens and I was so excited! I remember seeing the promo pics and being SUPER pumped to get my hands on these bad boys! And then I saw them in person and I was…. Honestly a little disappointed. Most of the polishes did not look as vibrant and multi-chromatic as their promo photos. And at least one of them looks to be a Peridot dupe or cousin. Plus Walgreens is charging $9.00 per .33 fl oz bottle! Sorry but I am not about the business of spending that much money on a drug store brand. :|

I walked away from them for the time being, determined to find swatches online before I dropped that much cash on them. The Polished Mommy’s comparison post was a life-saver for me because it debunked the myth that this collection are dupes for the China Glaze New Bohemian collection (with the exception of SH Scarab which is a dead on dupe for China Glaze Defiantly Daring that I already own). After sleeping on it overnight I decided to go back and get Lava (which is NOT a MAC Bad Fairy dupe people!!). I’ll probably only go back for Firefly and Copperhead once I can find them cheaper at a different store. And rumor has it that there are 2 more colors yet to be released, so we’ll see what those look like when they surface.

Sally Hansen Lustre Shine – Lava

Sally Hansen Lustre Shine - Lava
Sally Hansen Lustre Shine - Lava
Sally Hansen Lustre Shine - Lava
Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Lava is a reddish-pink-orange-gold multi-chrome. It’s a little on the sheer side so I needed 3 coats of Lava on its own to reach opacity. I love that you can build it up on its own and I’m sure the color shift would be even more prominent if it was layered over black!
Sally Hansen Lustre Shine - Lava
Sally Hansen Lustre Shine - Lava
I heard some stories from people on Instagram about Lava showing near-instant tip wear when layered over black, so you might want to be extra careful with wrapping the tips of your nails when you wear this one. I only wore it briefly for swatching purposes so I don’t know a wear time for this one. And really, wear time can vary from person to person depending on body chemistry and your TC/BC combination.
Sally Hansen Lustre Shine - Lava
And here’s a macro shot, soooooooo preeeeeetttyyyyy! :-D

I’m honestly happy that I went back to snag this one, but I’m still mad that I paid $9 for it! :-P I’m hoping that once these start popping up at Target, Walmart, etc that I’ll see a price drop and I can snag a few more from the Sally Hansen Lustre Shine line.

NOTD: Sally Hansen Arabian Night

16

Morning Lovelies!

I completely blame Stephanie from Imperfectly Painted for this polish finding its way into my clutches. She featured it on her blog a few months back and it was love at first sight. Then she told me where to buy it online and it was a done deal. :-D

Sally Hansen Arabian Night

Sally Hansen - Arabian Night
Sally Hansen - Arabian Night
Sally Hansen - Arabian Night
Sally Hansen Arabian Night is a polish from their Salon Nail Lacquer line that was originally released back in 2008. I liked polish back then but not the way that I do now where I actively looked at polish while I was out shopping. I’m kicking myself now because I would have had some GREAT polishes in my IKEA Helmer if I’d started my collection in those days. :-P

Arabian Night is an absolutely gorgeous grape purple shade that’s filled with golden shimmer. Words cannot express how much I love it! It has a great formula and it was opaque in 2 coats. Just look at that macro shot, it’s bursting with golden shimmer goodness! ^_^

Sadly, you can’t find Sally Hansen Arabian Night in stores anymore… And now that I think of it I really haven’t seen anything as amazing as Arabian Night from their Salon Nail Lacquer line in quite some time. The good news is that you can still find Arabian Night for a good price online at Cassie Cosmetics or their sister site on eBay.

I love discovering older gems like this. What are some of your favorite older/vintage polishes? :-)

Spamalot: OOTD/FOTD/NOTD with Girly Glam OPI Pure Lacquer Nail Apps

16

I’m BaaaaaAAaaaaaccckkk!!

Well, mostly back. :-P My vacation was WONDERFUL, and for those of you that follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook you got to see about 9938535.6 pictures of my trip to Sutton’s Bay, MI and Cleveland, OH.

I also finished up my nail technician apprenticeship at the salon on August 3rd! So now all I have to do is take my state boards and I will be a licensed nail technician! And now that my apprenticeship is over, I will have a normal work schedule again and I’ll be able to devote more time to blogging. Phuck Yeaaahh. ;-)

In the meantime since I have nothing else swatched, I’ll do a quick Instagram Spam for you all on my OOTD and NOTD for the wedding I attended in Ohio with Dana/Polished Claws Up! ^_^

OOTD and FOTD

OOTD: Silver Sequin and Black Wrap Dress with Coral Peep Toe Pumps
The silver sequins and black wrap dress (as well as the accessories) are all from a store called Maurices. The girl who worked there that day did an AMAZING job with helping me find some great things to try on. And everyone that was on Twitter and Instagram while I was shopping that day did a great job helping me choose which dress to bring home, haha!

The shoes came from a store called Yonkers, and these suckers were marked down from $60. I only ended up paying $18 for them! This entire outfit cost me less than $100 bucks. Hell yes. ♥
FOTD: Neutral Eyeshadow and Orange Lipstick!
And here’s an EXTREEEEME close-up of my mug on the way to the wedding. With it being 90+ degrees and humid as hell in Ohio, I left my flat-iron back in Michigan and sported curly hair all week long. :-) I decided to keep my makeup [mostly] simple since I had such a glitzy dress already.

I used the following:

Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Primer, my trusty Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Powder Foundation, Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Palette (LOVE), some random mascara, Eyeko Black Kohl Eyeliner, Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Candy Coral, and L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Fiery Veil (LOOOOOOVE).

Seriously. Fiery Veil is such an awesome true orange shade and it’s so moisturizing, it barely felt like I was wearing lipstick at all. If you love orange, you NEED IT.

NOTD: Girly Glam OPI Pure Lacquer Nail Apps

OPI Pure Lacquer Nail Apps - Girly Glam
I initially planned on doing a Fishtail Braid manicure to match my wedding outfit, but I ended up hating it and I changed my mind last-minute. I remembered that I had these OPI Pure Lacquer Nail Apps in Girly Glam, and they happened to match my wedding outfit pretty damn well. These were just as easy to apply as the last two that I tried. They didn’t hold up as well as the previous ones I wore though. I think I may have been a bit rougher on these than the other two. ;-)

Oh, I’ll Just Leave These Here…

Fishtail Manicure - 1st Attempt
Here’s a picture of my failed first attempt at a fishtail braid manicure. Meh. I think I’ll have to choose more opaque colors if I ever try this look again. I think I might try it as an accent nail next time too instead of a full mani. :-P
Ohio Polish Haul
Here’s my small polish haul from our time in Ohio. American Apparel Violet Panache and Smoke Dazzle, SH Insta-Dri In A Flurry (!!!), and Milani One Coat White On The Spot. I’m proud of myself for not going apeshit while we were on vacation. I saved my big splurge for my trip to the LUSH store. 8O
Lush Ohio Haul!
And here’s my haul from LUSH. ♥♥

Clockwise from the left: Lovely Jubblies (gotta keep the girls in check ;-)), Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner, Dark Angels Facial Cleanser (one for me, one for my friend), Mint Julips Lip Scrub (tastes and smells like Andes Mints!), and Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly.

I need to get a better picture of the Sweetie Pie shower jelly. It looks like outer space!
LOL
And last but not least, a picture of my boyfriend and I riding on the Raptor at Cedar Point. Once we saw this picture I laughed my ass off, and I had to buy a physical copy of it. :-D It’s just hilarious to me. I’m thrilled as punch on the ride, my boyfriend is doing a Fonzie impression to the camera, and the poor little boy behind us… may not be enjoying the ride as much. :-P

That’s it for today! I had so much fun while we were out of town and I ate a TON of food. If anyone wants a food spam post too let me know and I’ll make it happen. ^_^

Quickie Post – Speckled Eggs NOTD

6

Hey Everyone!

Just another quick post for you all today. This month has been CRAZY busy for me. I’ve been working 50-60 hour weeks at my midnight shift job AND doing 20 hours a week at the salon. The mani I’m showing you today is the first time I’ve painted my nails since I showed you all the OPI Pure Lacquer Apps Peacock design last week!! 8O

Thankfully my last day of my apprenticeship at the salon was Friday, so I’ll have some time to rest and get back into my usual blogging schedule starting in August (until I take my state boards anyway :-P). I’ll most likely be absent for the last week of July because I’ll be in Ohio visiting family, attending one of my oldest friend’s wedding, and hanging out with my girl Dana from Polished Claws Up! Dana and I went to middle/high school together and really connected over our mutual love of polish last year when we both attended another old friend’s wedding. Maybe she can teach me a thing or two about all the vintage polish finds, that girl has a dusty hunting gift! ;)

NOTD: Speckled Eggs With Cirque Ophelia

Speckled Egg Manicure: Sally Hansen White On, Cirque Ophelia, and Essie Marshmallow

Clicking on the above picture will bring you to the full sized Instagram image. :-)

Annie of Cirque Nail Polish (some swatches can be seen [HERE]) posted this look with Cirque’s Ophelia on her Facebook page and I just knew that I had to recreate it! I immediately purchased Ophelia and then tried to replicate the look once I finally had time to breathe paint my nails again. ^_^

First I laid down a base of Sally Hansen White On (2 coats), then I added 1 coat of Cirque Ophelia, and then I did 2 thin coats of Essie Marshmallow on top. I added my top coat and then I was in love. :-P

I absolutely adore this manicure! My coworkers said it reminds them of speckled eggs that you get in your Easter baskets. I have to agree, and now I want some speckled eggs to nom on! ;-)

That’s it for today folks, and thank you all again for being so patient with my lack of posts this month. I promise I have a ton of great things in store for you once I get settled back into my nail polish groove next month. Hopefully I can stumble across some great polish and food finds while I’m in the ‘Buckeye State’. ^_^

Black And White Challenge Day 10: Your Choice With Black And White

11

Happy Saturday Everyone!

So I haven’t played GW2 yet, getting ready to play right after I finish this post though! Instead I went to see Cabin In The Woods for the second time! This time I went with my boyfriend and he enjoyed it as much as I did. If you’re a fan of Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Angel, etc) you’re gonna love this movie!

Today we’re finally on our last day of the Black and White Challenge. And for Day 10 we decided to recreate our favorite black and white challenge day from one of the other girls to recreate! I decided to try my hand at Emily’s Day 7 Nails (Black & White w/Glitters). Let’s take a look to see how I did! :-D

Black And White Challenge Day 10: Your Choice With Black And White

Day 10: Your Choice With Black & White
Day 10: Your Choice With Black & White
Day 10: Your Choice With Black & White
This was my very first time working with striping tape, and other than losing where the tape started on the wheel a few times I had a lot fun with it. :-) I started out with 2 coats of Sally Hansen White On, then I added 1 coat of Jawbreaker by Pretty & Polish over it. After it dried, I made my stripes with the tape on each nail. Then I added a thick coat of The Black Knight by Butter London and then I removed the striping tape while the polish was still wet.
Day 10: Your Choice With Black & White
Here’s a macro shot! I finished everything off with a coat of Gelous and 1 coat of Seche Vite Top Coat.

Day 10: Your Choice With Black & White
Day 10: Your Choice With Black & White
I didn’t feel like doing both hands with the striping tape so I decided to just wear The Black Knight layered over 2 coats of Glitter Gal Serpent Black. I loooooooooooooove it! :-D

Black And White Challenge Day 9: Water Marble!

23

Morning Everyone!

We’re almost done with our Black and White Challenge, man this month has flown by! For our Day 9 challenge we had to create a water marble manicure. This manicure is notorious for being a royal pain in the ass for most, and it’s definitely tedious no matter what. But I generally love the results I get after hours of swearing and muttering to myself. :-D

I did both of my hands and kinda forgot a few steps in the process, thus making most of my nails a muddled marble mess (alliteration high-five!). But by the time I realized what I was doing wrong (not removing the layer of polish around my finger before I took it out of the water) I really didn’t feel like doing my nails over again. So it is what it is, and at least 3 out of 10 fingers turned out how I wanted them to! ;-)

Black And White Challenge Day 9: Water Marble!

Day 9: Water Marbling
Day 9: Water Marbling
I started out with 2 coats of Sally Hansen White On for my base. Then for the water marble I kinda alternated between using the following polishes in a mad scientist sort of way :-P:

Wet n Wild – French White Creme and Black Creme
Sally Hansen – White On
A England – Camelot
Day 9: Water Marbling
Day 9: Water Marbling
As you can tell, my pinky and my ring finger look a bit murky since I hadn’t figured out what I was doing wrong until I got to my middle finger on my left hand. Whoops. I still like it though, it kinda reminds me of dirty marble counter tops. :-P

Black And White Challenge Day 7: Black & White With Glitters [Sandwich]!

30

Hey Everyone!!

We’re almost done with our Black and White challenge folks, time is zooming by! If you missed any of the previous days you can see them all by clicking [HERE]. It’s Day 7 now, and our task today was to create a manicure with black and white with glitter! I love black and white glitter in nail polish!

So today I pulled out all of my black and white glitters that I own and slapped them on my nails. Yes, you heard me… ALL of my black and white glitters. :-D Well all of them except for Nubar’s White Polka Dot, which I forgot I owned. Next time Nubar, next time. ;-)

Wanna see how it turned out? Look no further! ^_^

Black And White Challenge Day 7: Black & White With Glitters [Sandwich]!

Day 6: Black And White With Glitter
Day 6: Black And White With Glitter
Day 6: Black And White With Glitter

I kinda went to Glitter Valhalla with this one you guys. Annnnnnd I love it! Nothing is better than a big fat glitter sandwich! :-D

Glitter Sandwich ‘Recipe’:

Your favorite base coat (Cult Nails Get It On for me!)

2 coats of Sally Hansen – White On (base color on my ring and pointer fingers)
2 coats of China Glaze – Liquid Leather (base color on thumb, middle and pinky fingers)
1 coat of L.A. Girl – Uninhibited (on my pointer and ring fingers)
1 coat of Essie – Marshmallow (on my pointer and ring fingers)
1 coat of Lynnderella – Snow Angel (on my thumb, middle, and pinky fingers, then one more thin coat of ChG Liquid leather over it)
1 coat of Lynnderella – Connect The Dots (on every finger)

Crazy mix o’ polishes, right?! :-) I then topped everything off with a coat of Gelous followed by a coat of Seche Vite. Can you believe this crap was actually dry to the touch in 10 minutes?! :-D
Day 6: Black And White With Glitter
Here’s a macro of my white glitter sandwich. I love how Uninhibited looks floating around underneath Essie Marshmallow!
Day 6: Black And White With Glitter
And finally, a macro shot of the black glitter sandwich. The micro-shimmer in Connect The Dots really pops! And I love the murky white look of the glitter floating inside the layers of ChG Liquid Leather. Clicking on both of these to enlarge the photos is a MUST.

Say it with me folks:  *le swoon*  ;-)

From The Vault: Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Diamond

13

Nail Prisms - Diamond

Morning Everyone!

As I was going through some of my folders on my Flickr account I came across these swatches of the vintage Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Diamond that I apparently forgot about, whoops! These pictures are from last August! I was sporting some serious nubbin nails (polar opposite to what I’m sporting currently) and I definitely had my summer tan rocking in full gear. Mmmmm, summer. I’m already wishing for beach weather, only a few more months right? ;-)

I used Sally Hansen Nail Quencher and no top coat for these swatches. You’ll want to enlarge all of these photos to their original size to get the full detail of each photo. :-)

Sally Hansen Nail Prisms – Diamond

Nail Prisms - Diamond
Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Diamond is a pretty little scattered silver holographic polish. It’s pretty sheer, I used 3 coats here, but I love it just the same. I think this polish would look fabulous layered over a nice creme polish, remind me to try that in the future!

Diamond is shown above with no flash.
Nail Prisms - Diamond
Nail Prisms - Diamond
Here’s a few shots of Diamond with camera flash. The first photo is taken with flash in normal lighting, and the latter is taken with flash in low light. The holo really comes out to play in the sunlight, but alas is was probably in the middle of the night when I was swatching (what’s new?) so simulated sunlight with camera flash was all I was able to capture at the time. :-)
Nail Prisms - Diamond
Here’s a macro shot with no flash, natural lighting.
Nail Prisms - Diamond
And here’s one more macro shot, this time with flash. If you haven’t looked at any of the previous photos yet in their original size you’ll at least want to check out the last 2 macro shots. ^_^

That’s it for today. I think I lucked out with Diamond, I found it on eBay last summer as part of a 5 polish bulk buy for only $9.00 with shipping!! If you look at the current prices for Diamond they range from Silly to Ridiculous.

I have two whole days off from both my regular job and the salon this weekend, so I hope to have an EPIC swatching session because I’ve got a backlog like no other taking over the coffee tables in my living room. And I really need to update my spreadsheet. PLUS I just bought 2 more IKEA Helmers, if that gives you any indication of the amount of new goodies I’ve been collecting since my last polish spreadsheet update.

Amanda my dear (one of my BFFs and my polish spreadsheet assistant), we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us. 8O
