Sometimes I Play With Makeup…
3* Most of the product(s) in this post were purchased by me.
A few were press samples or provided for review, noted as such below.
Morning Loves!
I do plan to show you all MOAR nail polish and a few makeup swatches in the upcoming weeks. I’m approaching the end of Hell Month (aka 50-55 hour weeks at work) so I’ll have time to play with my goodies again soon. In the meantime I have a compilation post of sorts to share to hopefully tide you over.
Now, I am by no means a professional when it comes to applying makeup. Nor do I even wear it consistently, maybe once or twice a week at most. My general philosophy with makeup is “errrr, just throw this and this together and see what happens…”. But every now and then I’m pretty pleased with how my makeup turns out! So I decided to pull some of my favorite more recent accidental miracles from my IG for your viewing pleasure.
I hope you enjoy them! Unfortunately I can’t remember everything that I used for these said looks, but in the future I’ll try to take notes as I go!
Masquerade ‘King Cake’ !

This is probably one of my absolute favorite accidental looks ever! My friend had a Mardi Gras/Masquerade themed birthday dinner in February and I really wanted to do something Mardi Gras themed. I honestly think this turned out looking similar to the frosting on a King Cake! The purple, green, and white eyeshadows are from the Wet n Wild I Love Matte palette. I can’t remember what else I used, sorry! Eyeliner is Milani Color Brilliance in Green and Aqua. Lips are… Wet n Wild Vamp It Up I think?

Here’s a close-up up of the look.

And here’s my final look with my masquerade mask on! I’m wearing the Bone Machine 2.0 catsuit by Black Milk Clothing with a lace long sleeve top over it. ^_^
Smokey Gold EOTD/OOTD

*Waves fingers* Pay no attention to the clutter in the background, haha. I have a mild obsession with ALL gold eyeshadows. If I see a gold shadow, I am compelled to purchase it! I ordered quite a few sample eyeshadows from BFTE Cosmetics, and used a few for this look. I know I used BFTE Dragonslayer, and maybe BFTE Gable or Meteor Shower but don’t quote me on those last two.
I also used Uzi from my Urban Decay Sustainable Palette. Lips are Wet n Wild Megalast 24 Carrot Gold layered over Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous. ^_^
I was going out for a friend’s birthday weekend and I paired this look with one of my favorite dresses from Black Milk Clothing (Woman in Red Ep. 1) and their suspender hosiery, with a black shadow striped doleman top.
Sort-Of Blackened Peach… Mauve?

This one is more of a fail that I ended up really liking anyway, haha. It initially was my attempt at Nihrida’s blackened peach, but I quickly realized that I didn’t really have the right colors to re-create her look. I worked with what I had, and accidentally overdid my cat eye so this turned into more of a blackened mauve…
No clue really what I used here: some BFTE shadows, some Wet n Wild shadows, and some from a super cheap mystery palette from Walgreens.
Hair Of The Now!

Annnnnd on a different note, here is my hair of the now! I did a side-by-side to show you what it looks like straightened vs. its naturally curly state. On the lower half of my hair I dyed it with Burgundy Wine by Special Effects, and I used Cherry Bomb by Special Effects for my top layers. I love it! It’s even brighter in the sunlight (more pics here and here)! Though I think I want to use even brighter, or more fun colors next time. Maybe a purple or a blue? We shall see… This is my first time using Special Effects hair dyes, and so far I’m pretty impressed. I dyed it back in the beginning of March and my hair is still un-faded over a month later! It’s a plant-based dye that I was able to leave on my hair overnight with no damage to my tresses (I did not bleach my hair first).
Le Nails of the… Few Weeks Ago.

Finally, so I don’t leave you without any nail pr0n in a post I will just leave this here…
I first saw this triangle gradient look created by Lafemmelulu on Instagram (her profile is private). Her nails are ALWAYS flawless, and I just loved this look so much that I had to try it myself.
I used A England Camelot for my base (gifted to me by A England’s Adina, thank you!). And for my gradient I layered You’re Such a Budapest and Can’t Find My Czechbook from OPI’s Euro Centrale collection (press samples, review coming soon-ish!) over Milani White on the Spot. I’m really happy with how this turned out for my first attempt! I’ll definitely be doing this look again!
☻
That’s it for now folks! I hope you enjoyed looking at my ‘Fun With Eye Shadow’ pics. Would you all like more makeup centered posts here? I’m definitely still more of a nail polish [and sometimes food] centered blog, but I enjoy my eyeshadows and lipsticks. And if you all want to see more of that, I can certainly make it happen!
In theory I hope to have something new for you all next week. And I would reaaaaaally like to catch up on the ridiculous backlog of nail polishes I need to swatch. But I can’t have everything I ask for, can I?
31 Day Challenge: Day 22 – Inspired By A Song (Gangnam Style Nails)!
21Hey Everyone!
OOooooh man. This is hands down my favorite day of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 so far! Today’s theme for Day 22 is ‘Inspired By A Song’, and this was another day where I knew exactly what I wanted to do from the beginning of the challenge. There’s a million pictures so let’s just get straight to it!
31 Day Challenge 2012 Day 22 – Inspired By A Song (Gangnam Style Nails)!
Hahahaaa! I am so so SO happy with how these turned out! I was first introduced to this song by the K-Pop artist Psy by my boyfriend back in the beginning of August. I laughed so friggin hard that I was in tears. This song is infections, and the accompanying music video is absolutely hilarious! I joked around for a while about doing Gangnam nails, so once I decided to do this challenge with Sam and Cris my day 22 nails were a no brainer.
If you somehow have been living under a rock and haven’t heard the song or seen the music video for Gangnam Style, I’ve included it at the bottom of this post. ![]()

The scene in the music video where Psy and the dancers are covered in white debris always cracks me up. So I’m happy that I was able to recreate that with mah nails. Excuse the awkward hang pose but it’s hard to get my thumb and pointer finger to cooperate.

Nail Polishes Used:
OPI Jade Is The New Black
OPI Don’t Pretzel My Buttons
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Lightening
Milani White On The Spot
CrowsToes Bunny Slope
SinfulColors Time Out (nail art polish)
Color Club Insta-This
Wet n Wild Megalast Undercover
L.A. Colors Art Deco White
L’Oreal Ocean Breeze
(And white acrylic paint for the fine lines on my pinky.)
Below are le macro shots of each nail. ^_^

I honestly don’t know which nail is my favorite. I love them all! Which one do you all like the best?

And here’s one last photo of my nails and a collage of the inspiration images I used from the music video on YouTube. ^_^
Finally, the music video that inspired my nails. Prepare for LOLs.
☻
That’s it for day 22! I really don’t want to take these off. Sunday’s nails might be late you guys, haha!
Don’t forget to check out what Sam and Cris did for their day 21 nails!

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 2 – Orange Nails!!
34Morning Everyone!
We’re on Day 2 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 that I’m doing with Sam and Cris, and today’s focus is orange nails! I’m SUPER excited with how this one turned out so I’ll just move right along and let the photos speak for themselves. That and it’s 2am and I’m sleepy.
Get ready for some photo-heavy amazingness!
31DC2012 Day 2 – Orange Nails

Koi Nails!! Yes, there’s some white in there but OMG I totally love these! I’m sad that I only get to sport them for a day before I have to do my Day 3 nails.
I first fell in love with this manicure when I discovered Mimi and her blog Makeup Withdrawal. Mimi does SUCH amazing manicures and her nails are to die for! ![]()

I started off with one thin coat of Milani White On The Spot as my underwear. Then I added two coats of Orly Au Champagne and let that dry for a few minutes. After that I sporadically added on splotches of Wet n Wild Creepy Pumpkin. Finally I used Wet n Wild Black Creme to add the koi fish stamps to each of my nails. If you check out Mimi’s post that I linked to above it’ll give you more details on the stamp I used. I think I’m gonna use it again for tomorrow’s nails, it has so many fun patterns! ^_^

And here’s some macro shots of my little fishies. It really looks so much like koi fish! ♥
☻
That’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed this manicure as much as I enjoyed creating it! Don’t forget to head over to Sam and Cris’s blogs to see their Day 2 looks! And I’ll see you all tomorrow for Day 3 of the challenge (and my birfday
)!!
Black And White Challenge Day 9: Water Marble!
23Morning Everyone!
We’re almost done with our Black and White Challenge, man this month has flown by! For our Day 9 challenge we had to create a water marble manicure. This manicure is notorious for being a royal pain in the ass for most, and it’s definitely tedious no matter what. But I generally love the results I get after hours of swearing and muttering to myself.
I did both of my hands and kinda forgot a few steps in the process, thus making most of my nails a muddled marble mess (alliteration high-five!). But by the time I realized what I was doing wrong (not removing the layer of polish around my finger before I took it out of the water) I really didn’t feel like doing my nails over again. So it is what it is, and at least 3 out of 10 fingers turned out how I wanted them to!
Black And White Challenge Day 9: Water Marble!

I started out with 2 coats of Sally Hansen White On for my base. Then for the water marble I kinda alternated between using the following polishes in a mad scientist sort of way
:
Wet n Wild – French White Creme and Black Creme
Sally Hansen – White On
A England – Camelot

As you can tell, my pinky and my ring finger look a bit murky since I hadn’t figured out what I was doing wrong until I got to my middle finger on my left hand. Whoops. I still like it though, it kinda reminds me of dirty marble counter tops.

Black And White Challenge – Day 1: White Base With Black
20Hey Everyone!!
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd we’re back with another challenge. Nothing quite as crazy as our previous 31 Day Challenge, but I think this one will be a better pace for busy schedules since we post a new challenge update every few days. ^_^
It’s Day 1, so today’s challenge is to use a white polish base with black polish on top. I was running short on time today so I just kinda winged it with my Red Angel plates.
But enough of my whining, let’s move on to the nail art! ^_^
Black And White Challenge – Day 1: White Base With Black

Polishes Used:
Black Creme & French White Creme by Wet n Wild
Red Angel Nail Plates Used:
RA-114, RA-111, and RA-105

I kinda smudged the lines on a few of my nails, but I was in a bit of a time crunch.
And I know this isn’t the most original, but when you worked a 10 hour midnight shift straight into a 6 hour day shift, and then have ANOTHER midnight shift to go to that same night…. You don’t want to spend a lot of time fiddling with your nails. ![]()

A few more shots for you all. I think my pinky, ring finger and thumb are my favorites. My thumb reminds me of an M.C. Escher painting.
And here’s the challenge rules and schedule again for those who missed it on my previous post. ^_^

♥
That’s it for Day 1 everyone! I hope you all enjoyed it, even though my final results weren’t fully up to my own level of standards.
Hopefully I’ll be able to sleep a bit before Day 2 of the challenge and I can come up with some killer nail art for you all to check out. ^_^
Guest Post for Fashion Polish – A Lacey Konadicure!
2
Hey Everyone!
Just got back from seeing The Hunger Games and overall I really enjoyed it! They made a few changes that didn’t thrill me (the mutts and PG-13 rating), but that’s to be expected with a book adaption. Anyway, why don’t you all head on over to Fashion Polish to check out the awesome konadicure that I did for Sam! You can view it by clicking on the photo above or by using this link right [HERE]!

NOTD: Valentine’s Day Domo-kun Mani!
21Happy Valentines Day Everyone!
Holy cow, it’s been quite a while since my last post and I definitely missed you gals (and guys!)! Working midnight shift on top of my apprenticeship at the salon has been kicking my butt. Last week I had a chapter test each day that I went in, and when I did have a chance to be home for more than a few minutes (and not studying) all I wanted to do was veg out or sleep.
I decided to brave a little sleep deprivation so I could at least give you all a holiday manicure for today. I wanted to do something fun, quick, and silly. My friend Jamie suggested that I do a manicure with domo-kuns (probably the most adorable made up monster in the world), and I decided to put a festive twist on it.
Valentine’s Day Domo-kun Mani

I think these turned out pretty well, I love their beady little eyes and pointy teeth. The one on my pointer finger has an air bubble that kinda looks like a cavity, haha!
I remember seeing domo-kuns online a long LONG time ago involving a very inappropriate internet meme including domos chasing kittens (you may know what I’m referring to, hah!). They then resurfaced in a more mainstream way when Target made it their mascot for Halloween one year. ![]()

A few more shots for you all. I had wanted to add little hearts above their heads so it would look like little bows, but my nails weren’t long enough. ![]()

Polishes I Used:
Wet n Wild Megalast – Undercover
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear – White On
A England – Perceval
SinfulColors – Time Off
♥
I hope you all have a wonderful day, whether you’re celebrating with anyone or not.
My boyfriend and I don’t get too overly involved in Valentine’s Day celebrations. Our plan is to cook dinner together once I get done at the salon, then watch a movies and just veg out for the rest of the night. On the menu is pork chops with garlic & wine, and Chad says he makes a mean acorn squash so I’m pretty pumped about that. And part of me wants to make these frickin awesome looking chocolate domo-kun heart cookies to go with the theme of my nails.
We usually sneak in a small gift here or there. I got him something incredibly nerdy that he should enjoy. I would tell you all what it is but I’ll keep quiet on the off-chance that he decides to read my blog today.
Ludurana Flocado/3D Flake – Chuva (swatches & review)
15Hello Everyone!
I’m really excited to be showing you all a polish and brand that’s totally new to me! Today we’re going to check out one of the beautiful Brazilian polishes sent to me by the lovely Llarowe. The brand is Ludurana and we’re checking out a polish from their Flocado/3D Flake collection called Chuva. Yes my friends, FLAKIES. *clutches pearls* O_O
I used Seche Vite/Sally Hansen Nail Quencher for my swatches today. Clicking on the images will enlarge them for you (this post is picture heavy for maximum drooling purposes
).
Ludurana Flocado/3D Flake – Chuva

Ludurana’s Chuva has a yellow tinged jelly base that is filled with small blue and copper irregular flakies. Here I’ve layered 2 coats of Chuva over 1 coat of Wet n Wild Black Creme. The sun was cooperating when I got done with work yesterday morning so I was able to get some great daytime shots for your viewing pleasure.
The flakies in this one are pretty spaced out when compared to some of my other flakie polishes, but I enjoy the more subtle flakie effect just as much as I enjoy “In-Yo-Face!” flakies. I just wish there were more visible copper flakes. It looks like I only got one or two on each nail of that colored flakie. ![]()

Here’s a bottle shot of Chuva. It doesn’t look like much in the bottle, but the magic lies in layering this baby with [insert favorite color]. ^_^ I plan on trying loads of layering experiments with this one to see what fun combos I can come up with. ![]()

Here’s a shot taken under artificial light (aka my lightbox). There’s even a teeny tiny little green flakie floating around on my ring finger that I didn’t spot in the daylight pics!

And a few macro shots for ya, if you haven’t enlarged any of the images yet you’re gonna want to blow these two suckers up for sure!
☻
Final Thoughts:
With this being my first Ludurana polish I really didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of application and flexible brush. I’m by no means a master of the Brazilian language but I’ve gathered from the bottle label that these are 3-Free (free of Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde and Toluene) as well. ^_^
I do wish that the different flakie colors had a better distribution throughout the polish. It seems like a 5 to 1 ratio for the blue vs. copper colored flakes. Perhaps I need to shake/roll my bottle around a little more the next time I use Chuva and see if that makes a difference.
Purchase Info:
Ludurana Flocado/3D Flake polishes can be purchased through their US stockist, Llarowe. She offers worldwide shipping (although Italy is currently excluded). They retail at $7.00/ea per 8ml bottle of polish. Currently Chuva is temporarily out of stock but they should be getting in a new shipment any day now! ![]()
