Sometimes I Play With Makeup…

* Most of the product(s) in this post were purchased by me.

A few were press samples or provided for review, noted as such below.

Morning Loves!

I do plan to show you all MOAR nail polish and a few makeup swatches in the upcoming weeks. I’m approaching the end of Hell Month (aka 50-55 hour weeks at work) so I’ll have time to play with my goodies again soon. In the meantime I have a compilation post of sorts to share to hopefully tide you over.

Now, I am by no means a professional when it comes to applying makeup. Nor do I even wear it consistently, maybe once or twice a week at most. My general philosophy with makeup is “errrr, just throw this and this together and see what happens…”. But every now and then I’m pretty pleased with how my makeup turns out! So I decided to pull some of my favorite more recent accidental miracles from my IG for your viewing pleasure. 😉 I hope you enjoy them! Unfortunately I can’t remember everything that I used for these said looks, but in the future I’ll try to take notes as I go!

Masquerade ‘King Cake’ !

Mardi Gras King Cake FOTD
This is probably one of my absolute favorite accidental looks ever! My friend had a Mardi Gras/Masquerade themed birthday dinner in February and I really wanted to do something Mardi Gras themed. I honestly think this turned out looking similar to the frosting on a King Cake! The purple, green, and white eyeshadows are from the Wet n Wild I Love Matte palette. I can’t remember what else I used, sorry! Eyeliner is Milani Color Brilliance in Green and Aqua. Lips are… Wet n Wild Vamp It Up I think?

Here’s a close-up up of the look.

masquerade party
And here’s my final look with my masquerade mask on! I’m wearing the Bone Machine 2.0 catsuit by Black Milk Clothing with a lace long sleeve top over it. ^_^

Smokey Gold EOTD/OOTD

Smokey Gold EOTD/OOTD
*Waves fingers* Pay no attention to the clutter in the background, haha. I have a mild obsession with ALL gold eyeshadows. If I see a gold shadow, I am compelled to purchase it! I ordered quite a few sample eyeshadows from BFTE Cosmetics, and used a few for this look. I know I used BFTE Dragonslayer, and maybe BFTE Gable or Meteor Shower but don’t quote me on those last two. 😛 I also used Uzi from my Urban Decay Sustainable Palette. Lips are Wet n Wild Megalast 24 Carrot Gold layered over Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous. ^_^

I was going out for a friend’s birthday weekend and I paired this look with one of my favorite dresses from Black Milk Clothing (Woman in Red Ep. 1) and their suspender hosiery, with a black shadow striped doleman top. :)

Sort-Of Blackened Peach… Mauve?

blackened mauve
This one is more of a fail that I ended up really liking anyway, haha. It initially was my attempt at Nihrida’s blackened peach, but I quickly realized that I didn’t really have the right colors to re-create her look. I worked with what I had, and accidentally overdid my cat eye so this turned into more of a blackened mauve… 😛 No clue really what I used here: some BFTE shadows, some Wet n Wild shadows, and some from a super cheap mystery palette from Walgreens. 😛

Hair Of The Now!

hair of the now
Annnnnd on a different note, here is my hair of the now! I did a side-by-side to show you what it looks like straightened vs. its naturally curly state. On the lower half of my hair I dyed it with Burgundy Wine by Special Effects, and I used Cherry Bomb by Special Effects for my top layers. I love it! It’s even brighter in the sunlight (more pics here and here)! Though I think I want to use even brighter, or more fun colors next time. Maybe a purple or a blue? We shall see… This is my first time using Special Effects hair dyes, and so far I’m pretty impressed. I dyed it back in the beginning of March and my hair is still un-faded over a month later! It’s a plant-based dye that I was able to leave on my hair overnight with no damage to my tresses (I did not bleach my hair first). :)

Le Nails of the… Few Weeks Ago.

Triangle Gradient Nails
Finally, so I don’t leave you without any nail pr0n in a post I will just leave this here… 😀 I first saw this triangle gradient look created by Lafemmelulu on Instagram (her profile is private). Her nails are ALWAYS flawless, and I just loved this look so much that I had to try it myself.

I used A England Camelot for my base (gifted to me by A England’s Adina, thank you!). And for my gradient I layered You’re Such a Budapest and Can’t Find My Czechbook from OPI’s Euro Centrale collection (press samples, review coming soon-ish!) over Milani White on the Spot. I’m really happy with how this turned out for my first attempt! I’ll definitely be doing this look again!

That’s it for now folks! I hope you enjoyed looking at my ‘Fun With Eye Shadow’ pics. Would you all like more makeup centered posts here? I’m definitely still more of a nail polish [and sometimes food] centered blog, but I enjoy my eyeshadows and lipsticks. And if you all want to see more of that, I can certainly make it happen!

In theory I hope to have something new for you all next week. And I would reaaaaaally like to catch up on the ridiculous backlog of nail polishes I need to swatch. But I can’t have everything I ask for, can I? 😉

31 Day Challenge: Day 22 – Inspired By A Song (Gangnam Style Nails)!

Hey Everyone!

OOooooh man. This is hands down my favorite day of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 so far! Today’s theme for Day 22 is ‘Inspired By A Song’, and this was another day where I knew exactly what I wanted to do from the beginning of the challenge. There’s a million pictures so let’s just get straight to it! 😀

Oppa Gangnam Nails!

Hahahaaa! I am so so SO happy with how these turned out! I was first introduced to this song by the K-Pop artist Psy by my boyfriend back in the beginning of August. I laughed so friggin hard that I was in tears. This song is infections, and the accompanying music video is absolutely hilarious! I joked around for a while about doing Gangnam nails, so once I decided to do this challenge with Sam and Cris my day 22 nails were a no brainer. 😀

If you somehow have been living under a rock and haven’t heard the song or seen the music video for Gangnam Style, I’ve included it at the bottom of this post. 😛

The scene in the music video where Psy and the dancers are covered in white debris always cracks me up. So I’m happy that I was able to recreate that with mah nails. Excuse the awkward hang pose but it’s hard to get my thumb and pointer finger to cooperate. 😉

That’s it for day 22! I really don’t want to take these off. Sunday’s nails might be late you guys, haha!

31 Day Challenge 2012: Day 2 – Orange Nails!!

Morning Everyone!

We’re on Day 2 of the 31 Day Challenge 2012 that I’m doing with Sam and Cris, and today’s focus is orange nails! I’m SUPER excited with how this one turned out so I’ll just move right along and let the photos speak for themselves. That and it’s 2am and I’m sleepy. 😛

Get ready for some photo-heavy amazingness! 😀

Koi Nails!! Yes, there’s some white in there but OMG I totally love these! I’m sad that I only get to sport them for a day before I have to do my Day 3 nails. 😛 I first fell in love with this manicure when I discovered Mimi and her blog Makeup Withdrawal. Mimi does SUCH amazing manicures and her nails are to die for! 😀

I started off with one thin coat of Milani White On The Spot as my underwear. Then I added two coats of Orly Au Champagne and let that dry for a few minutes. After that I sporadically added on splotches of Wet n Wild Creepy Pumpkin. Finally I used Wet n Wild Black Creme to add the koi fish stamps to each of my nails. If you check out Mimi’s post that I linked to above it’ll give you more details on the stamp I used. I think I’m gonna use it again for tomorrow’s nails, it has so many fun patterns! ^_^

That’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed this manicure as much as I enjoyed creating it! Don’t forget to head over to  Sam and Cris’s blogs to see their Day 2 looks! And I’ll see you all tomorrow for Day 3 of the challenge (and my birfday 😀 )!!

Black And White Challenge Day 9: Water Marble!

Morning Everyone!

We’re almost done with our Black and White Challenge, man this month has flown by! For our Day 9 challenge we had to create a water marble manicure. This manicure is notorious for being a royal pain in the ass for most, and it’s definitely tedious no matter what. But I generally love the results I get after hours of swearing and muttering to myself. 😀

I did both of my hands and kinda forgot a few steps in the process, thus making most of my nails a muddled marble mess (alliteration high-five!). But by the time I realized what I was doing wrong (not removing the layer of polish around my finger before I took it out of the water) I really didn’t feel like doing my nails over again. So it is what it is, and at least 3 out of 10 fingers turned out how I wanted them to! 😉

Black And White Challenge Day 9: Water Marble!

Day 9: Water Marbling
Day 9: Water Marbling
I started out with 2 coats of Sally Hansen White On for my base. Then for the water marble I kinda alternated between using the following polishes in a mad scientist sort of way :-P:

Wet n Wild – French White Creme and Black Creme
Sally Hansen – White On
A England – Camelot
Day 9: Water Marbling
Day 9: Water Marbling
As you can tell, my pinky and my ring finger look a bit murky since I hadn’t figured out what I was doing wrong until I got to my middle finger on my left hand. Whoops. I still like it though, it kinda reminds me of dirty marble counter tops. 😛

Check out the rest of the Sexy6 and their take on the Day 9 Challenge ^_^

Black And White Challenge – Day 1: White Base With Black

Hey Everyone!!

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd we’re back with another challenge. Nothing quite as crazy as our previous 31 Day Challenge, but I think this one will be a better pace for busy schedules since we post a new challenge update every few days. ^_^

It’s Day 1, so today’s challenge is to use a white polish base with black polish on top. I was running short on time today so I just kinda winged it with my Red Angel plates.

But enough of my whining, let’s move on to the nail art! ^_^

Black And White Challenge – Day 1: White Base With Black

Day 1: White Base With Black
I kinda smudged the lines on a few of my nails, but I was in a bit of a time crunch.

And I know this isn’t the most original, but when you worked a 10 hour midnight shift straight into a 6 hour day shift, and then have ANOTHER midnight shift to go to that same night…. You don’t want to spend a lot of time fiddling with your nails. 😕
Day 1: White Base With Black
Day 1: White Base With Black
A few more shots for you all. I think my pinky, ring finger and thumb are my favorites. My thumb reminds me of an M.C. Escher painting. 😀

And here’s the challenge rules and schedule again for those who missed it on my previous post. ^_^
The Black & White Challenge

1.       White base with black (Apr. 1st 2012)
2.       Black base with white (Apr. 4th 2012)
3.       Black base with color (Apr. 7th 2012)
4.       White base with color (Apr. 10th 2012)
5.       Color base with black (Apr. 13th 2012)
6.       Color base with white (Apr. 16th 2012)
7.       Black & white with glitters (Apr. 19th 2012)
8.       Sponging (Apr. 22nd 2012)
9.       Water marble (Apr. 25th 2012)
10.     Manicure of your choice with black and white (Apr. 28th 2012)

That’s it for Day 1 everyone! I hope you all enjoyed it, even though my final results weren’t fully up to my own level of standards. 😛 Hopefully I’ll be able to sleep a bit before Day 2 of the challenge and I can come up with some killer nail art for you all to check out. ^_^

So now that you’re done here, check out my pals (aka the other members of the “sexy six”) and their designs for Day 1! 😀

Guest Post for Fashion Polish – A Lacey Konadicure!

Guest Post for Fashion Polish - Stamped Lace Manicure

Hey Everyone!

Just got back from seeing The Hunger Games and overall I really enjoyed it! They made a few changes that didn’t thrill me (the mutts and PG-13 rating), but that’s to be expected with a book adaption. Anyway, why don’t you all head on over to Fashion Polish to check out the awesome konadicure that I did for Sam! You can view it by clicking on the photo above or by using this link right [HERE]! 😀

NOTD: Valentine’s Day Domo-kun Mani!

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!

Holy cow, it’s been quite a while since my last post and I definitely missed you gals (and guys!)! Working midnight shift on top of my apprenticeship at the salon has been kicking my butt. Last week I had a chapter test each day that I went in, and when I did have a chance to be home for more than a few minutes (and not studying) all I wanted to do was veg out or sleep. :-(

I decided to brave a little sleep deprivation so I could at least give you all a holiday manicure for today. I wanted to do something fun, quick, and silly. My friend Jamie suggested that I do a manicure with domo-kuns (probably the most adorable made up monster in the world), and I decided to put a festive twist on it. 😀

Valentine’s Day Domo-kun Mani

Valentine's Day Domo-kun Mani
Valentine's Day Domo-kun Mani
I think these turned out pretty well, I love their beady little eyes and pointy teeth. The one on my pointer finger has an air bubble that kinda looks like a cavity, haha!

I remember seeing domo-kuns online a long LONG time ago involving a very inappropriate internet meme including domos chasing kittens (you may know what I’m referring to, hah!). They then resurfaced in a more mainstream way when Target made it their mascot for Halloween one year. 😀

A few more shots for you all. I had wanted to add little hearts above their heads so it would look like little bows, but my nails weren’t long enough. :-(

Polishes I Used:

Wet n Wild Megalast – Undercover
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear – White On
A England – Perceval
SinfulColors – Time Off

I hope you all have a wonderful day, whether you’re celebrating with anyone or not. :-)

My boyfriend and I don’t get too overly involved in Valentine’s Day celebrations. Our plan is to cook dinner together once I get done at the salon, then watch a movies and just veg out for the rest of the night. On the menu is pork chops with garlic & wine, and Chad says he makes a mean acorn squash so I’m pretty pumped about that. And part of me wants to make these frickin awesome looking chocolate domo-kun heart cookies to go with the theme of my nails. 😀

We usually sneak in a small gift here or there. I got him something incredibly nerdy that he should enjoy. I would tell you all what it is but I’ll keep quiet on the off-chance that he decides to read my blog today. 😉

Merry (Day After) Christmas! – Holiday Skittle Mani

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Sorry this post is a day late, but it’s still Christmahanakwanzika season so it still counts… Right? 😉 I hope you all had a great Christmas if you celebrate. I’ve just got a quick post for you today of a holiday skittle mani that I did on Christmas Eve. I used Color Club’s New Bohemian and several of the polishes that Dana (Merry Christmas girl!) sent me last month. I ended up hating it and re-painted my nails afterward because I was being a grinch, but now that I’m looking at the pictures a few days later I think it turned out pretty cute!

I used one of the three stamping plates sent to me by KKCenterHK, the one that has the snowflake on it (B61). The plates they offer are inexpensive, but they do not have the cardboard backing like BM or Konad plates. The plastic film on the plates that you have remove before using them is also ridiculously hard to peel off. It’s super thin, like fine saran wrap, and it kept tearing off in pieces. Even after I managed to remove most of it there’s still a few shreds clinging to the sides of the stamping plate. :( Beside that, the pattern transferred nicely onto my nails. I’ll show you more stamping designs with the other two plates when I have time to try them out.

Holiday Skittle Mani

Holiday Themed Nail Art w/KKCenterHK Plate B61
Let me first mention that New Bohemian is a pain in my ass to work with. I don’t know if I got a bad batch or what, but it was a streaky/gloopy mess. It took me three coats to get it opaque and mostly streak free. Annoying for such a pretty color! :-(

I can’t remember the names of the polishes Dana sent me off the top of my head. I used a holo bar glitter on my ring finger (love it!) from what looks like a foreign brand. I’m holding the bottle for it in my pics. 😛 On my thumb I used a vintage gold glitter by Wet n Wild. And I stamped with the B61 KKCenterHK plate on my pointer, middle, and pinky fingers. I used China Glaze Millennium and Sally Hansen White On for the stamped snowflakes. I then layered Confetti’s Ice Ice Baby over it.
KKCenterHK Stamping Plates: B61, B65, and M33
KKCenterHK Stamping Plates: B61, B65, and M33
Here’s some quick shots of the nail plates that were sent to me. I think only two of them would make good full nail designs, the rest are way too small unless you’re painting the nails of a 3 year old. 😛

Coupon Code!

KKCenterHK was nice enough to provide me with a coupon code for you all to use, it’ll give you 10% off any purchase made on their site! The coupon is good until the end of February (2/28). 😀

Wet n Wild Ice Baby Collection Winter 2011 – Part 2 (swatches/review)

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Well… Happy Turkey Day if you celebrate, Happy Last Thursday of November for everyone else! 😛 I’m going with the boyfriend to his family’s home and having Thanksgiving dinner (lunch??) with them this year. I work all holiday weekend so I didn’t have time to make my usual holiday fair, but I’m thinking the manfriend and I will do a mini post holiday dinner and I’m make my usuals: roasted cornish hens, brown rice supreme, and sweet potato pie. ♥♥

I’m finally getting around to showing you all Part 2 of the Wet n Wild Ice Baby Collection swatches, sorry it took me so long to get back to these! 😕 If you missed (or can’t remember) Part 1, you can see the swatches and review right [HERE]. ^_^

I used Seche Vite Top Coat and Sally Hansen Nail Quencher Base Coat for all swatches shown today. Clicking any image will enlarge it to the original size for you. 😀

Rockin Rubies

Rockin Rubies
Rockin Rubies
Rockin Rubies is a gorgeous cherry red glitter filled with small iridescent pink hex glitter. It reminds me of the glitter that’s in Diamond In The Rough (see previous review) but with a pink theme. It has a very thin formula so I needed 4 coats for full coverage. This one may be better suited for layering. It’s also a very thirsty glitter. Even after a thick coat of SV the polish was still gritty to the touch. You’d best do with at least 2 thick coats of SV if you want a smooth surface.
Rockin Rubies
Here’s a macro shot, I almost want to say that the larger glitter in Rockin Rubies leans towards being holographic with the hints of green and orange popping up at different angles. ^_^

24 Carats

24 Carats
24 Carats
24 Carats is the other bar glitter polish in this collection. This one is like New Years Eve confetti on your nails! I see copper, gold, and silver bar glitter mixed in with smaller glitter in the same three colors. There’s a lot going on, and it kinda reminds me of shag carpet, but I like it! 😯 This is 4 coats, application was pretty easy and the formula is thin just like Rockin Rubies.
24 Carats
Macro shot, there are a few bare spots around the tips of my nails. I’d like to layer this over another color to see how it looks. ^_^

Believe Me, It’s Real

Believe Me, It's Real
Believe Me, It's Real
Believe Me, It’s Real is a gorgeous cobalt blue glitter filled with larger purple hex glitter pieces. I really love this one. It’s one of those “slap you in the face” colors that really pops on the nail. ♥ The formula on this one was a bit thicker than the previous two, this is 3 coats.
Believe Me, It's Real
Macro shot, the purple glitter is such a wonderful contrast color for the blue. I’m smitten with this one. ^_^

It’s All In The Cut

It's All In The Cut
It's All In The Cut
And my favorite of the four I’m showing you today, It’s All In The Cut is FAB-U-LOUS! I didn’t think I was going to like this one that much, but once it was on my nails it was all over. It’s bright, cheerful, and feminine. The color reminds me of sugar plums! I really love that the bright opalescent pink hex glitter doesn’t get lost in the dusty lilac hued base. 😀
It's All In The Cut
Macro shot, I did NOT want to take this off my fingers! It’s just so beautiful, I see myself wearing this one a lot. This is 3 coats. ♥

Final Thoughts:

Again, if you missed Part 1 of this collection you can find it [HERE]. I am really happy I was able to get my hands on this collection. The Ice Baby Collection is fun, festive and the majority of them have great coverage for glitter polishes. ^_^ I think my top picks for the collection would be It’s All In The Cut, Believe Me, It’s Real, Cost Is No Issue, and Give Me A Price Quote. My second tier would be Diamond In The Rough and Back Alley Deals. So basically all of them at this point, haha! If you’re able to get your hands on these I definitely recommend picking them up, because once they’re gone you’re gonna be looking at some crazy Ebay prices for sure. 😛

Purchase Info:

The Wet n Wild Ice Baby collection is a limited edition line that is an exclusive for Walgreens, aka: hard to find. If you’re lucky enough to come across these gems they’ll set you back $2.99 per .34 fl oz bottle of polish. :-)

Ludurana Flocado/3D Flake – Chuva (swatches & review)

Hello Everyone!

I’m really excited to be showing you all a polish and brand that’s totally new to me! Today we’re going to check out one of the beautiful Brazilian polishes sent to me by the lovely Llarowe. The brand is Ludurana and we’re checking out a polish from their Flocado/3D Flake collection called Chuva. Yes my friends, FLAKIES. *clutches pearls*  O_O

I used Seche Vite/Sally Hansen Nail Quencher for my swatches today. Clicking on the images will enlarge them for you (this post is picture heavy for maximum drooling purposes ;-)).

Ludurana Flocado 3D Flake - Chuva
Ludurana’s Chuva has a yellow tinged jelly base that is filled with small blue and copper irregular flakies. Here I’ve layered 2 coats of Chuva over 1 coat of Wet n Wild Black Creme. The sun was cooperating when I got done with work yesterday morning so I was able to get some great daytime shots for your viewing pleasure. 😀

The flakies in this one are pretty spaced out when compared to some of my other flakie polishes, but I enjoy the more subtle flakie effect just as much as I enjoy “In-Yo-Face!” flakies. I just wish there were more visible copper flakes. It looks like I only got one or two on each nail of that colored flakie. 😛
Ludurana Flocado 3D Flake - Chuva
Here’s a bottle shot of Chuva. It doesn’t look like much in the bottle, but the magic lies in layering this baby with [insert favorite color]. ^_^ I plan on trying loads of layering experiments with this one to see what fun combos I can come up with. 😀
Ludurana Flocado 3D Flake - Chuva
Here’s a shot taken under artificial light (aka my lightbox). There’s even a teeny tiny little green flakie floating around on my ring finger that I didn’t spot in the daylight pics!
Ludurana Flocado 3D Flake - Chuva
Ludurana Flocado 3D Flake - Chuva
And a few macro shots for ya, if you haven’t enlarged any of the images yet you’re gonna want to blow these two suckers up for sure! 😉

Final Thoughts:

With this being my first Ludurana polish I really didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of application and flexible brush. I’m by no means a master of the Brazilian language but I’ve gathered from the bottle label that these are 3-Free (free of Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde and Toluene) as well. ^_^

I do wish that the different flakie colors had a better distribution throughout the polish. It seems like a 5 to 1 ratio for the blue vs. copper colored flakes. Perhaps I need to shake/roll my bottle around a little more the next time I use Chuva and see if that makes a difference. :-)

Purchase Info:

Ludurana Flocado/3D Flake polishes can be purchased through their US stockist, Llarowe. She offers worldwide shipping (although Italy is currently excluded). They retail at $7.00/ea per 8ml bottle of polish. Currently Chuva is temporarily out of stock but they should be getting in a new shipment any day now! :-D
